Very Banjo Kazooie like with its gameplay with some Conker's Bad Fur Day thrown in for Marty & Hop's movesets, was a nice call back to those games. Has some love letter references to other medias hidden in each game world which are a treat to find. If your looking for a game that has a collectaton feel from the N64 era this ones for you!
Fun game. After seeing the trailers I was afraid the movement and jumping was going to feel stiff but that was not the case for me.
I love N64/PS1 platformers! This captured the joy and whimsy of all those classic titles! I loved the characters, the worlds, the music, and all the little easter eggs scattered around! Only thing I wish this had was bosses for each world. This is a 9/10 game! I'm itching to see more soon!
A charming little game, it avoids being frustrating and is consistently creative. I loved every minute I spent playing it. I look forward to Hop N' Mar-Two!
Amazing game very fun and full of little details and references. I loved every level but the board game themed one is my favourite! Worth every penny with challenging and unique levels and really funny dialogue. All the characters are interesting and I really like the art style. If you're a fan of classic N64 platformers then pick this one up, it controls well and the platforming is challenging without being too punishing. Hop sections are a great addition too. :D
I picked up the game after watching a Mindpulp video, and now its one of the few steam games i own where i've gotten all the achievements. I loved this game
Just finished collecting everything and beat the game. Wow that final sequence was very cool. I had a great time with this game. the controls are great and the levels are really cool and well made. You can really tell that love went into it. Level 3 and 4 were my favorites for their originality. I would absolutely love to see a sequel and would recommend this game to any classic 3D platformer fans. The only thing id like to see improved on is maybe the color pallet and skyboxes, Id like to see more vibrant colors in that area and maybe some Spyro-like skyboxes.
overall rating: 7.5/10 this game overall is a very lovely homage to the n64, particularly it's very banjo kazooie/Mario 64 inspired. it's one of the most aesthetically close games i've seen to the graphics of that time and i think it does a very good job at replicating the entire vibe of those games... maybe even to a detriment which i will cover later in the review. the game doesn't overstay its welcome with 5 stages and a boss fight, however i did spend at least 1-2 hours of my playtime running around looking for missing bananas and wracking my brain unable to find them. which is kinda a me problem but some of the level design is confusing and difficult to follow as the stages are very large. the platforming feels nice, the game isn't very difficult but any means which isn't a bad thing. personally i am rage prone at games so I prefer NOT having horribly mean platforming. martys move set is limited but his jumps feel good to control as well as hop. the only jank feeling control is the throwing/tongue grab. you're not able to move and throw as marty or grab things as hop so when you have enemies throwing missiles at you it's pretty much impossible to avoid. but there's health items everywhere so it's not that big of a deal. despite their limited jump abilities nothing in the game feels bad to platform on, and the game avoids being frustrating in terms of its platforming which as previously mentioned i appreciate. however for anyone who wants to play this game i want to throw out a bit of criticism in terms of the polish of this game. it's lacking a lot of qol features, reminiscent of older collectathons. in the last 4-5 years most collectathons that are developed do include some kind of qol to help you complete stages so i was surprised at how there is literally none for this game, minus a counter (which was also present way back when so... doesn't really count) and a quest list. due to the large scope of the stages if you miss anything at all you will guaranteed be running around thinking you've gone crazy because you're completely on your own trying to find it. and i will also mention the underwater controls. banjo kazooie has terrible water controls. mario 64 has even worse water controls. this game 100% replicates those horrible controls. and there are several stages where you have to be underwater so it's unavoidable. it didn't prevent me from completing the game but it was not a super fun experience trying to swim at any point in the game. and the above two complaints i have are what i mean by its almost TOO much like the old collectathons of the 90s-2000s. it's a game made in modern times that takes some of the bad elements of those games and instead of trying to make them better, just embraces them. which, hey, i guess it does make it feel like an authentic experience, but it's something to be aware of if you choose to play this game and are more used to the modern 3d platformers that offer better controls and more features OR if you somehow stumbled across this game and have never played a 3d platformer before. i would still recommend the game, it was definitely worth playing and on sale it's offered at a great price. if you're not used to older 3d platformers or collectathons at all you may not enjoy the experience here, but if you love that era of video games it's very close to home.
I absolutely adore this game. A fantastic N64 style platformer complete with a level where you explore a giant room. Every aspect oozes the charm of those early 3D platformers and was made by someone who truly loves the genre. The cameos and references to other series are also a real treat.
