About
This game is meant to be played on controller only. Mouse and keyboard are used to navigate the UI. Hockey Club is an up to 6v6 PvP, team based, ice hockey game where each player will choose one of six positions to play as and control. Skaters fully control their stick with the right joystick with or without the puck. Shots and passes are aimed with the left joystick. This left joystick also moves the skater (and goalie too). A skater who has the puck may perform a deke by moving the right joystick in one direction, then holding the left bumper to release control of the puck while moving the right joystick in the opposite direction to send a now detached puck in that direction along with the stick. Then once the stick is as close to the puck as possible release the left bumper to pick up the puck again. Once you've done this, you have now successfully completed a deke. Skaters who don't have the puck can control their pokechecks by holding the left bumper button and moving their right joystick in the desired location. Skaters who wish to deflect a shot with their stick can simply hit the R3 button to enable stick off ice mode. This mode enables the skater to now move the right joystick in an up and down range of motion in order to deflect the puck. Goalies can control their glove by holding the left bumper and moving the right joystick in the desired direction. The goalie's blocker is controlled by holding the right bumper and moving the right joystick. The rest of the game's controller inputs and what they do can be found in the in-game player help menu.
As you have probably figured out by now, this is a very skill focused and highly controllable game. No assist or AI is added to this game. Players are encouraged to practice. This isn't an easy game to play. It is designed to be competitive. It was at first difficult even for the developers, but we wanted to make a game that, as much as possible, was based on player skill. As such, with practice, the developers got better and we believe so can you. When you make a series of plays that result in an outstanding gameplay event, in our opinion, you will know it is entirely based upon the skill and practice of your ability resulting in what we feel encapsulates the great game of ice hockey. So with that said, squad up with your friends. Face off against the randoms on the other side and may the best team win.

Right, where to begin... This is the worst hockey game I have ever played. In my age, I have played over 23 games of the NHL franchise and 2K franchise combined and I have never ever seen such a mess of a game. This game heavily mentions "you should use a controller", you know what doesn't support a controller? The main menu. Amazing start. So let's go through what the game does: -Player Customization. -Practice Mode, this allows you to skate around a ring with NO NPCs but allows you to test your controls. -It allegedly allows you to play online, if it does work or not, who knows. I was trying to get a game for 30minutes and I got nothing. Then checked the player count of this game and saw that this game is dead, like literally there was 0 people online for the past 9hours. -Most over complicated control scheme I have ever seen. -Control Instructions are an absolute mess and just a bob of text on your screen during practice. What the game doesn't do: -Have a offline match. -No NPC/Bots. -No Career mode. -No Create your team. -No quick match. -No Penalty Shootout. -No Players. -Fair pricing model. So I then looked into their discord for several hours and found the following: -Devs and Mods are constantly deleting and banning people from discord that provide criticism. -Devs and Mods then spin the narrative around as "they are disrespectful", which works because they deleted and banned the person that writes it, so people have no visibility of what real happened and get manipulated by the devs. -Devs claim it took them 5 years to build this game. Considering there's only 1 game mode and I can't even access it due to lack of players. Great. Love the content. Maybe in another 5 years we will have offline with bots? -Devs and Members of the community constantly claim this 25$ title has more value than a $70 EA NHL Game. If you look at the above list of what content the game contains and doesn't contain, I would take the EA game anytime for 70$. So in short, this game is not worth the price tag, it should at best be 5$ for what it offers. That's assuming the devs were worth supporting. Their behaviour makes me remember devs like YandereDev, which have no idea what they are doing and are delusional about their own product. Get offended by anything that isn't strictly positive and will ban you out of their discord for providing criticism. A big no from me. A buyer deserver better for 25$, this is embarrassing. EDIT 3rd November: 24hour peak - 1 Player. You know what's the funniest part, in all of this "Dev Response"? The only thing they bothered to comment is on the fact that I forgot to change the account I was logged in to reply to Marsamune. Not at all to defend the game or promise improvements or that they are working on feedback. NOPE, it's pin point that I accidentally responded to another person with the wrong account. I mean, if the review itself wasn't enough of an indicator of their delusional ego, I think this tops the cake. EDIT: 7th November: Game with 0 players for 6 out 7 days in a week. Devs still got nothing better to do than pointing out the alias. I'm clearly in their head. To alleviate their PTSD about the honest review, I have changed the account's name to FioX, for now. Until the time I need to use the account again when my partner or daughter wants to play Stardew Valley on my main and I want to play CS2 at the same time. If only the game had family sharing. Now that the name matches the one in the comment, surely the devs will now fix and address the issues the game has. Right? I can't be screwed to keep track of updates of this game, as it's clearly dead. So even if the devs come with another excuse for this review, in.... likely 4 days time. I won't bother to address it. Already refunded this nonsense anyway. In the end, the playerbase count shows the story: https://steamdb.info/app/1024820/charts/ The game is crap. Everyone can see it, otherwise they would be playing the game.
na not for 35 cnd
I want this game to succeed and I will happily change my review when things change, but at the moment, the entire playerbase of roughly 10 people seem to be NA. Latency makes the game unplayable from Europe.
Now this is a real hockey game, other games I have played have tried and failed to capture the difficulty and teamwork that comes with hockey. Finally this is it.
Game is a lot of fun. I see a lot of promise in it too. Screw EA and NHL. This is what we want!
Great entry level hockey game for PC. needs work but at least i can get my hockey fix in!.
This game is off to a great start. It feels like it really needs a lot of work. I don't think it is worth the $25 being charged for it in it's current state and I really hope the devs continue to work on it. I had fun with the game I played but there aren't really any players online to play against. If the devs added some AI opponent options that would help a lot. I marked this as a recommended game simply because I do see a lot of potential. I have complained about EA's NHL for years now and we badly need a good alternative. I'm hopeful that the devs see these comments and do the needed work. AI opponent option, better movement and graphics. Maybe some more marketing to get the players here? Fingers crossed for the future of this game.
sick game if you want an alternative to EA NHL, way less player obviously but if you join the discord you will find people to start a game
EDIT: Changed it to recommend because I personally don't mind waiting a bit for more features / polish. I spent my $25, and I do not regret it. ♥♥♥♥ it we ball Original review: I love this game, I want it to be successful, and I want to play full 6v6 matches regularly. The foundation is good; this game is the closest I've seen to the EA NHL games on pc. The controls take a bit to learn, but once it 'clicks,' it is very satisfying. Setting up a play, shooting it top shelf, or dekeing around the defense feels amazing. If you purchase it, be sure to join the discord to set up a game. However - I just cannot recommend this game in its current state. I know the devs have worked hard this, but this is not worth $25, sorry. The price-to-content here is way off. The content is really good, but there isn't enough of it for the full price. I think the devs should have given a discount for Early Access and then upped the price once more features are fleshed out. For $25 here is what you get: - Barebones 'practice' mode: You choose your position and can skate around and take shots with a puck. - Online mode where you can play 6v6 hockey vs other players (you will never play a 6v6 without the discord, and even then, it is very rare) - Settings for your player (blade curve, skates, jersey number, etc...), camera, sensitivities, the usual features, except most graphical options (vsync was recently added) That's pretty much it - there isn't a single player mode, real practicing, bots, or a big enough player base to sustain regular games. To me - this is basically a paid playtest (it is Early Access after all). I would only purchase this game if you don't mind paying $25 for a barebones alpha build of an EA NHL game, and don't mind waiting for a fully fleshed out version of it. You can join the discord and see that the devs do care about this game, and are actively working on it to add the features that you'd expect in a hockey game. This game could be special, but it needs a lot of work. Please use my $25 wisely - maybe get a couple pizzas for the office ;)
It's the realest rawest hockey game on steam. The technical puck handling, shooting and movement have a huge learning curve. Playing as a noob I found it extremely satisfying to learn new ways to shoot pass deke block list goes on. This game takes skill and makes every goal pass or hard hit feel good. The game is dependent on MP so grab some friends and join the hockey club.
