BUYER BE WARNED, THIS IS Abandonware - last update was April 2023!!!!! It looked interesting, and while I appreciate the developer's work on mods for Satisfactory, they have apparently decide to just quit working on this game, while they still regularly update their satisfactory mods.... super douche move to continue to claim this tile is 'early access' when there hasn't been a single update in well over a year and a half. I refunded as the game is quite obviously not complete and apparently never will be.
Hexfactory is a an Early Access/Development Hell attempt to make a "factory" city builder game, except it's terrible and lacks most of the elements you would expect for a "Factory" game... There's no conveyor belts or planning for how to get resources A, B and C to the respective factories that need them... it's just a matter of bashing down buildings and grinding along. The concept has promise, this implementation has absolutely none. It's trashware. The game has been in Early Access since 2023 and while it got a shallow, mostly empty update almost 3 months ago, it's deep in Development Hell. There's no reasonable expectation that this will ever be completed. Whether the developer lacks the time, funds, or skill/talent required to complete a video game isn't really something gamers should be expected to accept as an excuse. The game has some mediocre 3D low poly graphics that make this look like something from the mid 2000's. It would have done better with better graphics, but the poor visuals count as a defect here. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Unethically, the developer sold keys to this abandoned Early Access game into cheap, nasty game bundles, where they knew it would be advertised and sold as a complete PC game. This seems to have been done in an attempt to mislead gamers into buying a knowingly faulty, defective and incomplete product. When a developer does this for a game they have zero practical intention of completing, this is essentially a scam, an intention to get paid for a broken/unfinished product. Often this is done as an exit strategy, as the developer takes the money and runs. No refunds have been given, the developer kept all the money they took from gamers. The game is very badly optimised, despite having extremely low quality assets and visuals, poor production values and no real reason for a high workload on anyone's system, the game runs the GPU up to 100% immediately. While this may seem to be evidence of cryptomining, Valve checks for that prior to allowing a game on Steam through Steam Direct. It's more likely the developer just had no idea what they were doing and didn't do any optimisation. Regardless of the reason, if you don't want your PC getting thrashed needlessly by bad software, you might want to avoid this game. Hexfactory has the preposterous price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
This game is something I would have played on a phone to pass time, but way too simple for a PC. Game has zero logistics and as a result has no complications assosiated with solving logistical issues, there are just hex factories, vey simple and straight forward, with biggest complication being excess of copper early on. Closest game I can think of is Reshaping Mars, Reshaping Mars also has near zero logistics and only factories, but it has so much synergy between palcement of facilities that it is an interesting semi-puzzle, but Hexfactory is way too simple for that. Pros: - Reasearch doubles as a goal system, very nicely done. - Relatively low on bugs in comparison to other EAs, and the ones that are there are relatively mild. I had no crashes. Cons: - Zero logistics - Combat system that doesn't fit overall feel and style of the game. - Way too simple, it turns into pure grind of 'build more factories' with little consideration for other factors or into a waiting game while resources gather. Hopefully this game will become better, but at the moment I can't recommend it.
If Factorio and Civilization do a kid. Lot of work to have a really nice game but it's really cool at this state (and cheap)
In urgent need of refactoring to use less GPU resources. It's difficult getting into the swing of building when my RTX 2080 has to rev the fans this hard to render a game that looks like it could run on a Sega Dreamcast. Even with the frame rate turned down, it's insanely greedy.
Although I love the developer for his contributions to Satisfactory, it is a shame this game is unfinished, near unplayable and abandoned :(.
So far I love what this game offers in the Early Access. Until now I did not stumble over a bug and thats pretty nice!! On a hexatile map you have to built factories and take care of your citizens. With Research you unlock more production facilties. All in all very simple and easy to understand.
Wow, this game is kinda cool for sure, I dig it, I only am in Tier 2 now :-)
