I like the idea of it but actual gameplay is quite stiff, the UI is pretty hard to read, and it feels like a mobile port even though I'm not aware of there being any mobile version of it.
Wilk reviews…
Herolike
Not so hero-like The first time I launched the game, it crashed instantly. After getting it to play, the game was just, OK. It’s not good. It’s not bad. That’s all you need to know. It gets boring and very repetitive very fast, and I’ve only played with two characters and for a bit over an hour. The boss fight is just, laughable! You only get hit in the animation, but not the hitbox, as his hitbox does not include his sword or whatever other weapon he may be using. The other modes or missions, which include, Defence, Hostile, Gamble, Boss, and, of course, Friendly, with also a Town. Defence is the only fun one, since there is an objective, but, the enemies still only attack you from my experience. Hostile is just Defence without defending anything. Gamble is a random mission. Boss is a boring boss fight. Friendly is Gamble but you don’t fight. Town is just where you buy gear from shops which must be built first, using materials, gained through just playing the game. Overall, it’s just a huge rogue-like RPG with incredible grinding. You don’t even need to buy half of the gear available to you. The graphics are fine. The character creation is just choosing between multiple default classes. Nothing new to see here, apart from a game already done to death, just done worse. Any hope? Well, sure, why not. As repetitive as the game is, I do not hate it. In fact, I like some aspects of it. There’s still a good deal of annoying mechanics, to be mentioned later. But for the most part, it’s just very OK, and for that, there is some potential. I think most rogue-likes have potential. The nodes on the map are a cool feature, you can only choose one mission per choice, until given new choices. You can choose between trying to fight as much as you can, against just going for all the Friendly of Gamble missions whenever available. It gives me a sense that my choice will matter in the long run. Something else I like? The missions in general are alright. For Early Access, they’re alright. You’re not going to see Total War strategies here, but it’s good enough. I personally enjoy most forms of fighting enemies, but, there is still a pretty big con here. You need to have your mouse on the enemy to attack them in any form. You also use abilities in where your character is facing, which is a lot more annoying that it sounds. Now, the bad The combat is just poor. The missions get repetitive for the average player. Character creation doesn’t even let you pick between male or female. It takes too long to heal up using a potion, you also already have a healing ability. The controls aren’t the best. The font on the UI doesn’t look the best (yeah, it’s a nit-pick. So what?). You open two new windows every time you press level up, even if you do not have skill points to spare. Even these small things are very frustrating and super annoying as you must deal with them every single time. Later in the game you even have everything completely levelled up to the maximum level, and this mechanic becomes more than useless, but even something saddening. Pros and Cons; A Summary + Cheap + Cool time waster + Interesting mechanics +/- “Strange” combat +/- Rogue-like +/- Graphics aren’t too poor - Gets boring fast - Repetitive - Ugly UI Giving it a
5/10
TL; DR Only good for a very specific audience. It’s a perma-death repetitive game with not much new content to offer than buying the exact same weapon for a small damage increase, with the exact same art. Early Access? This is not ready yet, not at all. It crashes on launch sometimes, but otherwise, not necessarily buggy, which is a saving factor. On the other hand, the combat, the defining feature of a rogue-like game, is terribly executed. I'd give it a neutral if I could. A rather bare bones Unity "Action rpg" where you go through 50 scenarios, which contain combat in small contained areas (always the exact same areas) or "friendly" encounters where you make a choice based on a short piece of dialogue and based on that choice you make progress towards a "title", which is a fancy name for a buff your character gets. To keep it short: very repetitive, clunky and sluggish combat, no chance to continue playing with the character you created after finishing the game and lastly zero replay value.
Pretty fun ARPG with some base building/roguelike features. There are four classes in game and each has four special attack/defense skills to invest in besides the standard stats. You choose random encounters across a "world map" and up grade your town with materials earned from each encounter. Most of the game feels stable, only had 2 crashes in all my time played. However, on occasion some maps will load with no encounters spawning on them, forcing you to exit back to the load screen. Would like to have seen a few more map types as the journey across the world map gets a bit stale as you progress. Boss fights were ok , liked that each had some diversity. Overall enjoyable game that can be played at your own pace.
Herolike is a great idea/misguided execution game that focuses too much on being like other games in the genre but forgets to add originality. There are some interesting idea choices, such as building up your town in order to access better equipment and the like, but most of them seem half-done or unfulfilled. The RPG system in the game is simply looking at a text and selecting a response. While clunky, the combat does feel rather nice but needs a bit of tweaking here and there as it does almost become the most elaborate point-and-click game I've ever played. The one thing that the game did really well was to add a perma-death system that kept all town power-ups behind for your next characters, thus lowering the difficulty for those needing a curve. In conclusion; Herolike is one of the most average games Steam has too offer, but don't take that as a bad thing. I think Herolike is a game that I would recommend to anyone trying to get into the hack 'n' slash genre as it is a more simplified version of games like Diablo II and Torchlight II. PIck it up now or on sale, either way is worth your time.
No, just no. If you are thinking about getting this game, don't do it to yourself. I thought this would be a nice little game for when you have a few minutes to spare and was aware of some of the problems. But this game is much more buggy than I thought to the point that you can't really play it. - When you start the game it only ever opened on my second (much smaller) screen and I was not able to change that in the settings. - The maps are small and you only ever play the same ones. - The enemies are not on the map beforehand but spawn in around you, which is probably the most stupid design choice I have ever seen. - You character is extremely slow, the enemies extremely fast. If you choose a ranged character (hunter) to try and deal with them you are always at a disadvantage because your character stops to attack (even though the controls say they should not). The combat is a pain. - you can unlock/ level up abilities. I was only ever able to use 2 of the 4 I have for some reason. In a boss level my character even used them randomly, without me clicking the specific number - the "town" that is advertised consists of 3 houses (random stuff, armour and weapons) and an altar where you can respawn. Gathering materials is a pain in the a** and after 10 levels I still hadn't build the house for new weapons All of that is bad and makes the game boring and uninteresting but not unplayable. Now on to the problem that ended my run after half an hour: I had entered a boss fight and started fighting him. I deal with the usual problems of taking damage because my person stood still while shooting, started running in circles to heal up - the usual not so great gameplay, only dragged out by the &()"$*(&) amout of health the boss has. Then the game got fecky. The boss's health bar started freaking out and couldn't decide on how much life the boss had left. My character stood still for half an eternity when he started shooting, resulting in him taking a "("$&§?)(= amount of damage from the boss. This eventually lead to me dying because my character wouldn't respond to controlls anymore. And after dying two times with any character you are dead forever. What an absolute sh*tshow of a game.

Very shallow... few maps... not something you can play for hours... Cheap though :)
The game works but the hitboxes are a bit dodgy, and the movement is floaty. The idea of developing a town as the legacy upgrades is pretty cool, though the game play is lacking.
