Absolute classic and a big part of my childhood. I highly recommend if you are returning to this or want to re-experience the game, that you try out the Might & Magic: Heroes 5.5 (MMH5.5) mod, which changes up the entire game by polishing up on some dull areas such as the slow AI turns, as well as balancing the factions in a very healthy way for more spread out viability throughout the game (Inferno is good! :D). Even playing without the mod, it's absolutely still a great game to play in vanilla, and it's not too late to try for the first time in 2026, since for me personally, HoMM games are best enjoyed by playing single player custom games vs AI or by playing campaigns (since I'm too stupid for multiplayer). Lastly I want to mention that compared to the other games in the series, HoMM5 is in my opinion a super underrated game graphically. Everyone always says the 3D style has aged poorly, but I think this is one of the most visually stunning games in the series, having some of the best looking towns in the franchise. Although the classic look of the art style from previous installments is less present, this is still very appealing to me at least.

My first experience with Heroes of Might and Magic began with the original game, and I have played several versions since then. This is, in my opinion, the finest version. The graphics, sound and animation are first class. i do not care much for the campaigns in any of the M&M series, but there are plenty of stand-alone battles to play. This is excellent game design.

This was my childhood because I'm too young for Heroes 3 to be my childhood. I love both games all the same.
