Hero or Villain: Genesis

This feels like a guilty pleasure. The writing is so bad that it's good—like a campy Silver Age cartoon. Prepare to laugh out loud at how bad some of the lines are. Good times. That's the mindset I suggest you approach this with. In all seriousness, only get this one on sale after you've gone through the better hero CYOAs, like Fallen Hero and Community College Heroes.

The reviews for this game confuse me as my experience was really good! I dont know what kind of miracle people are expecting from a 4 dollar book game there was a lot in there and yeah its not all perfect some things might end up not making sense and a lot of it is just flavor but...its a role playing book you need to use your imagination and not expect it to tell you every little thing in exactly the way you want it, as someone trying to write a book myself i cant even imagine how hard a game/book like this is to make. i see people complaining about having to do normal stuff like talk to co workers but its crazy to think the story would be nothing but nuts to butts action like have you never seen...any show? or read any book? its to be expected that there will be some small talk even in the most action heavy shows and movies and i think its done pretty well here but if you really dont care then just dont read that part you can get the gist of whats going on in those parts by just reading the options and picking one. anyway i digress really good book/game would recommend if your not expecting this to play like mortal combat.

Eu realmente amei o jogo. Ele às vezes pode ser cansativo por conta do texto, mas depois retorna ao seu ritmo divertido. Os personagens são muito bons, e as variedades nas escolhas também mudam muito a história. Meus 8 reais mais bem gastos, recomendo demais.

This is a pretty safe game when it comes to the library of the choice/host games. I mean that in the sense that it isn't an outstanding work but it also isn't a dumpster fire. The hero customization stuff is awesome, really lets you cook up an idea of your character to be pretty close to what your ideal super powered persona would be. However, like what a lot of other reviews say, a lot of those choices are mostly just for flavor, as they don't really change the outcome of a lot of choices when it comes to combat. The story is interesting enough to keep you captivated, but from my first play though, there isn't really anything that pushes the boundaries what what being a superhero/vigilante would deal with. Just mainly your standard "here is your new arch-nemesis" and the constant juggle between your personal life, work life, and hero life. Still, not a bad game, but not a great one either.

Choice of Games/Hosted Games is no stranger to superhero stories. I'm happy to report that this game constitutes one of the strong entries of that type of stories it has to offer. On a world much like our own, meteorites rained down one day. Any humans that touched one of them gained powers. The bigger the meteorite, the greater the power. This event is very recent, and the world is just adjusting to these individuals, and the first few famous ones are just making a name for themselves. On such a world, you control one of these individuals that got powers not so long ago. The type of powers, and the number and strenght of them, are completely up to you to choose. This is done by first selecting the difficulty of the game: the harder, the less Hero Points you are granted at the beggning, the easier, the more. You then convert these points to abilities, gadgets, or money. I recommend choosing Very Easy, you get more freedom to pick what you want, and you can still lose fights if you are careless. You have to pick a certain concept all your powers are based around: Elements (Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Shadow, Light), Animal traits, Time powers, Mind powers, or a high intelligence that allows you to build handy gadgets. The story has you trying to juggle your hero life and your civilian life, and deciding what kind of hero do you want to be. There are "main events" that happen at certain intervals, with free afternoons in between where you can pick which activity you want to perfom. Do you want to work on a report for work, do you want to patrol the streets, do you want to treat your wounds at a hospital (if you are hurt), do you want to work with the police, do you want to chase down a lead independently? This all forges your path. I'm very happy with the path I ended up taking, and I'm actually very excited for the sequel. Yeah, this is just the first part of the story, but it has a nice climax, at least I got a nice one. Well worth a purchase, in my honest opinion.

A quite interesting hero/villian romp. It had varied powers, good story, my created villain playing hero was so great that I grew attached to him - always a good sign. Characters and setting felt alive, I'd really like to play one more time and try to take a completely different route to see what happens. You basically try to balance your heroic/villanous life with your work. Contrary to some other titles I've played, it feels natural and believable. There are even "sidequests" that seem to have no consequence save for purely emotional ones (no spoilers, but one was really touching and nicely intervowen). Its small touches like these that make feel the setting to be bigger than it really is, and gives depth to characters. Also, you have a lot of varied adventures and can do surprisingly lot of stuff. More than I'd expect from something clearly labeled as "Genesis", which is to say: I am pleasantly surprised. That said... I didn't like the epilogue. I feel it's unnecessary and a step in the wrong direction - it is a similar thing to something I reviewed before in the same genre. Without spoilers, yes, it flows logically from the events preceeding it, but I would rather do without it and not go this route. Frankly, I just disregarded it and ended the story of my character just a moment before. Overall, one of the better titles, if you overlook the epilogue (I'm rather biased against this sort of thing which happens there, I find it a cheap storytelling gimmick). I've had my fun, and I'll definately play once more given time. Also, it allowed me to create one of the more interesting superhero characters I roleplayed (build, powers, characteristics, history). Good job.

It's a really good text based rpg with superpowers. Alltought ther should be a checkpoint system

This is a good superhero/supervillian text based choose your own adventure style game. It is everything The Best of Us tried to be and do but couldn't quite pull off. There is a huge amount of character customization possible and despite a huge amount of super powers I felt like the creator pulled off letting you use your powers very well. Id probably like more content but that said there is a good amount. I've played this game on the app as well so I've probably logged about 15 play throughs over all that steam isn't tracking and each time I play I usually discover something I didn't know about before. The game world is well built. I thought the job section seemed a bit thin and repetetive and doesn't seem to change enough depending on career path, but once more this game was a huge undertaking so this is nit picking. So in short if you like the super life style and you want to live as a vigalant, hero, or villian, buy this game and start your super adventure!
