Mixed feelings about Hemera. On the one hand, the atmosphere, with its rich textures and colors, is impressive. The narrative is captivating, or at least engaging, without being overly predictable. On the downside, I found some minor bugs, which forced me to repeat certain sections, making it somewhat tedious. Also felt it could have made better use of the mobile phone conversations. The combat is not good or bad, its simple, yet adds some dynamism to what would otherwise be a more conventional walking simulator. In short, Hemera, with its ups and downs, has elements that make it worth experiencing, so if you’re looking for a game that’s not so much horror but mystery with symbolism, and its atmospheric graphics appeals to you, I recommend buying it when on sale. From what I’ve seen, the dev is working on a new game called PANAME, to keep an eye on. [strike] I wish I could put a mixed review rather then yes or no, Currently at the moment I believe the steam version of this game is bugged near the end where you get stuck in the ground.[/strike] After asking the dev to fix it, it infact was fixed, Bravo. the game was very enjoyable and I loved the atmosphere the creator brings to this game, This type of art style I will always love aswell as the sounds/music in this game is phenomenal. Make sure to also play this game on Chill difficulty aswell as the normal difficulty it is impossible to kill the "brutes" :o).

First attempt playing I immediately got stuck behind a fence after jumping over it and had to restart. Second attempt the game unfocussed when I selected the first reply in the text exchange and would not refocus. Third attempt the conversation with the woman on the beach was impossible to track as all the sentences were overlapping one another, and there was no way to terminate the conversation. The controls menu also doesn't make sense. Shift to sprint works but isn't even mentioned, and right-clicking the mouse does not 'attack' but instead makes you drop what you're holding. This bun needed more time in the oven.
No Responsibility Review,
Dialogue is completely broken. Everything overlaps, making it impossible to see what i'm being told or what im saying. Also can't exit the dialogue, so i'm softlocked. Got 14 minutes in, but can't really get further than the beach after sleeping in the house. Also game doesn't seem to have borderless mode.
this is an absolutely beautiful game! however, like many others, i have had issues with a glitch. past the gate, there is an enemy (the masculine, muscled one) that i cannot seem to kill no matter how many times i swing the sword to try. he doesn't take any damage. i think killing him may be necessary for the game progression? if so, if anybody has any suggestions or answers, please tell me
This game was an Amazing Nostalgic Retro Experience:) Loved the Peaceful Atmosphere, Art style and Soundtrack. Check this game out, you will not be disappointed.
It's a short game, clearly made with love and dedication. It has a mysterious narrative, and the gameplay is very simple. At least I like the walking-sim parts, to look at the scenaries. The graphics are retro styled, but also very different from what we are used to see. The combat feels a bit weird to me, but you can always play the game on 'Chill' difficulty, so that the enemies don't damage you. I also didn't understand much of the story, but at least had fun playing it. There are/were also some bugs (some even softlocked me), but this is the dev's first game, and after managing to contact him, he fixed the issue I was having very quickly, so that's nice too. Oh yeah, and the music is great too!
Went in completely blind, and what the hell this game is gorgeous!! I kept stopping to drink in the atmosphere. The color palettes, vegetation cross-quads, and skyboxes are stunning, and each area has a memorable layout. I had no idea where the game was going, not because the story is cryptic (it is), but because it felt slippery for a good bit of its short runtime: I couldn't tell which elements, which characters, which locations would wind up sticking. I had many questions that were never resolved, and the resolution I did get just raised more questions. This sort of thing is delicious to me... I'm sitting here in the glow of finishing, chewing on different interpretations.
The big surprise, and my favorite element of Hemera alongside the visuals, is the pacing. Is it a modern slice of life game, a horror game, a magical-realist tale, a ghost story, a fantasy action-adventure game, an odyssey...??? Hemera slips in and out of these modes subtly and without warning, and then it's over. A real treat.
This is my first ever review on Steam. I've felt compelled to write it as your game has utterly blown my mind. Loved every moment, every environment, the music and the story. Visually, it reminded me of couple of movies I recently enjoyed, namely Annihilation and Midsommar, wrapped in gorgeous pixelation and magical realism. Beautiful work of art I will keep coming back to often. Cannot wait to experience your future creations - please never stop doing what you are doing :)
