one of the worst VR implementations I've ever seen. You can't use the VR controllers, and you're view is not first person. No one who plays VR wants to watch their character from behind and doesn't want to have to use keyboard or other controllers. VR controls and VR view, period. Returning this now.
Blown away by this game in VR... unique experience. Really shows what VR can be. After finishing the game: the gameplay is a bit frustrating and repetitive sometimes and the flow of the story takes a hit, but the narration and visuals are remarkable. Overall, a bit too intimate and pretencious as what it tries to be as art and it feels like there were some missed opportunities as far as making the story and experience even bigger and more impressive. A must play VR game.

Ever since I played this, I've been tempted to play this on VR aswell and my gosh I was not disappointed. The game is even better on VR and the atmosphere really shines through like it was made first on VR! 10/10 <3<3
It pretty much has all the same pros and cons as playing flat. Why I think this tips into me not recommending it is because in VR you can't have, say, another screen playing another form of entertainment to pass the time. Pros:

Looks great even in VR. I thought it would have to go full pixel potato to run but aside from the motion glitches from dynamic loading, the frame rate was good at a very impressive looking default quality.
For all that people have disparaged 3rd person VR, this is fine proof that it works quite well. Before trying this, I'd happily played through the Team Beef VR ports of Jedi Knight II and Jedi academy. Both of which can be played nicely in 1st or 3rd person views.
Cons made worse in VR:

Everything about this gameplay is slow, empty, repetitive, and basic. The moving, talking, fighting, interacting all take forever. Without the ability to even look away, you're stuck waiting for everything to happen. There is almost nothing to find and most everywhere you go is about the same is where you've been, doing the same things without much variation possible. Add to that the sparse save points and you even have to actually redo the exact same things if you need to quit the game.
The non-interruptible cut scenes are not just boring but INESCAPABLE in VR. There are so many of them and they last so long.
Seeing the world in stereo and at real scale makes the limitations in speed and agility even more pointless. Most of the twisting paths you must take in the game are lined with barriers. These features in VR make painfully clear that any relatively healthy person could climb around or over them. Your character's shuffling gate and slow trot are also more agonizing to watch, being able to see the actual speed.
Not supporting VR controllers, especially this long since the release, is a confusing decision.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Very awkward in VR. It's 3rd person, which does not translate well to VR at all. I get what they're trying to do with keeping it in 3rd person, because they try to play on the insanity aspect of the game, and basically make the player character as this silent, unseen entity that is following Senua, while also controlling her, as if we're playing the role of one of the whispering voices that follows her through the game, but... it just doesn't work. The cutscenes are not in VR at all. As soon as a cutscene starts it just goes into theater mode, places the cutscene on a flat screen in front of you, and totally destroys the immersion. The only good thing going on is the sound design in VR is great. You really do get the full effect of hearing these voices come from all directions, and that was actually a bit more immersive than on my 5.1 surround sound setup for my desktop. Other than the sound... I don't see any reason to play the VR version, just play the standard one and pretend this one doesn't exist. It's just a disappointment that doesn't make good use of VR at all.
Love this game, the story, lore, tone, acting, 3d audio, everything about this game is peak! 100000% recommend you play.

Another game I've let run long enough to review. Except I'm not reviewing the game. Game is probably fine. I haven't played the non-VR version yet but it's on my list to get around to. What isn't on my list however is this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ VR title that I can't delete out of my library without also deleting the one I want to play. I have MAJOR beef about this. "Why don't you just wait to review it when you have VR?" Because VR peripherals make me want to [REDACTED]. Something about the combination of screen to eye ratio, head strap to counterweight ratio, literally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kill me. It doesn't fit right, like EVER. Have they come a long way? Sure. Just not far along enough for me to ever envision myself comfortably goggling up. Neck pain, eye pain, head pain, I literally cannot hold my arms up in a position long enough for me use whatever weird ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dual handed controller system and I KNOW you don't have to use them but for some games? UNAVOIDABLE. Shoulders nope out so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard, if I'm not careful, they cause me to shatter into a million ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pieces. It's literally a face hugging death strap on for me. And some of it is absolutely psychological methinks. The handhelds don't weigh a ton but I could swear to you that they do and I could describe to you how I can see every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pixel like the very fabric that makes up the light spectrum but obviously no I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ can't so what the hell am I reacting to? Whatever it is makes pain explode so no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thank you. Tell me when VR becomes like a Holodeck from Star Trek and MAYBE i'd give it a go, Assume it's not just one giant light box because photosensitivity isn't a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke. I always feel ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy when I say this ♥♥♥♥ but Idk man... It's just the way the dice roll for me. if VR is your jam, absolutely play the games you want with all the little doodads and ♥♥♥♥ you want but it's sincerely ridiculous to force unwanted content you can't uncouple from the content you do. And yeah. I did unlock all the achievements with S.A.M. PIcker. Sue me.
weird VR implementation but its pretty good
