Hegemony III: Clash of the Ancients

Comme ses prédecesseurs, Hegemony 3 est un jeu qui mériterait d’être davantage connu. Sa prise en main peut sembler exigeante au départ, mais une fois les mécanismes assimilés, le plaisir est au rendez-vous. Le joueur plonge dans la conquête de l’Italie antique, en orchestrant la gestion des cités, de la culture, de la nourriture et des ressources. Les lignes de ravitaillement, la construction de forteresses stratégiques, la formation et l’amélioration des unités, la conduite des combats terrestres et les opérations navales enrichissent une expérience dense et immersive, sans jamais laisser place à l’ennui.

This game has the most enraging finance mechanics ever. You could be financially stable and then suffer a economic collapse because some no name faction decides to raid one of your farms. Somehow one unit of hoplites manage to cost 300 a month!

its not bad at all. kinda like a watered down version of total war and dumbed down version of a good RTS. you WILL pause a lot, almost all the time, to access different fronts of battle, since its, you know, Real Time and all that ♥♥♥♥. still, kept me entertained for quite a while.

Das Spiel ist einerseits richtig gut, andererseits nicht voll durchdacht. Nach einigen Stunden, tut man nur noch das selbe, es fehlt die langfristige Herausforderung, ab einem gewissen Grad ist nicht mehr zu schlagen, das Spiel geht aber noch lange weiter und die Diplomatie sollte auf Kampagnenereignisse beschränkt sein.

The anti-player bias where the AI spawns exactly at the worst times is a pretty annoying to simulate a challenge. If you're going to allow the AI to magically communicate, it should be a game feature. Sending diplomats, or scouts, which as other players have mentioned they don't actually do (scouts are a feature, but AI doesn't have to send them to get full visibility and knowledge of player's forces). I really don't like games where AI gets access to entire mechanics that the player doesn't. I want to give it more of a chance but my first impression is that I'm going to play it out of spite, hoping I will eventually understand it, because I really want to like it. Diplomacy is really basic. I just don't enjoy games where your two options are declare war or make peace. No alliances, no paying other tribes to war with other tribes, no buying/selling cities, not even trading/selling extra resources. It is fun for what it is, but I don't really feel like it carved out a good enough niche just because of supply lines. Nothing beats the original Rome Total War (not remastered) for city and population management, and having to dip into population for recruits. That game is 2 decades old. It's a shame.
