Haydee 2

Yet another banger by Haydee Interactive. This game is an excellent sequel to its predecessor. If you enjoy games like Super Metroid or Classic RE, you'll feel right at home. Even with the removal of the platforming it still manages to having a very difficult, but fun gameplay loop. The really upped the ante with intricate, looping level design. It can certainly get confusing at times, but once you start to memorize the layout it gets easier and can be quite fun on subsequent playthroughs especially when aiming for the achievement for beating the game under one hour (which I have yet to do at the time of writing this review). There isn't really much for me to complain about this game with the exception of one particular item that was way too easy to miss. I really didn't have too much trouble finding everything else until then without a guide. Speaking of a guide, don't be ashamed to use a guide in this game if you get stuck. For as many years, as I've played games I still need a hint or a pointer to figure out where to go here and there. There are some fairly helpful guides under the guides tab for this game. This game does have a much more in-depth story this time around via text logs scattered about, but don't expect any direct cinematic story telling like you see in your typical AAA game. It's much more akin to something like Dark Souls ( which is actually one of the dev's influences) where you have to piece together the narrative yourself and do some theorizing. I quite like this approach as it allows you to engage with the story as lore as much as you'd like. It also keeps the story from getting in the way on subsequent playthroughs. There are any cutscenes outside of the ending which I quite like as it keeps the control of the game in the players hands. That's the whole point of a video game if you ask me: keeping the control in the players hands with minimal interference. If you weren't sold on the first game I doubt there is really much here that would can your mind as this game doesn't hold hands whatsoever. You're left all on your lonesome to figure it out outside of the aforementioned guides. A tip that really helped me was to just take it very slow, stop, and observe your environment. This is not a game you want to rush through as that'll just get you killed more often than not. You'll notice hints that foreshadow to potential ambushes or other hazards. Keep your gun up often: you never know what may be lurking around the corner. All-in-all. A great sequel that I highly recommend to any gamer that doesn't mind a tough, but fair challenge that doesn't hand hold.
