Silent Hill if it was boring as dirt. +PS2 horror era vibes +Good atmosphere +Decent voice acting -Drawn out intro -Gameplay quickly grows repetitive. -Recycled empty rooms -Vast open areas with barely a thing to discover. -Game breaking glitches -Those annoying dogs at the park. Recommended to try only at a discount.
Just finished playing I find this survival horror in the end to be pretty lack luster. It had a lot promise in beginning with apartment level with some interesting puzzles and spooky moments that had me clutching my pearls, but then the game began to betray its tension in favor for long walks in the park. I noticed that there was encountering little to no content as I wondering the streets of the barren city. The enemies were freaky in the darkness but realized that they posed little to no threat as I walked pass them. This was unfortunately the majority of the game. There were two other main levels, but they were little and far between. This game struggles a lot with keeping its tension high in moments where it should matter. I was really looking forward to playing this game because of its strong beginning, and I find the cyberpunk setting fascinating in a Resident Evil-like survival horror game, but it ultimately did not meet its own expectations.
Silent Hill 2 OG is my favourite game of all time. Im still playing this but just getting my thoughts out. Could someone please tell game writers that subtly revealing that your protagonist is a lesbian does not make your story clever, interesting or better in any way. Far too many rooms that serve no purpose, and more that have nothing but 4 bullets. Makes exploration boring and not rewarding. Atmosphere is okay, but not a scratch on Silent Hill 2, nor does it have anything like the music in that game. The puzzles.. Im not even sure if I would call them puzzles. Its fine, but nothing more. I will still likely finish it. PS: "Western British Isles" .. you mean Ireland. And this clearly isnt supposed to be set in Ireland. I would guess something like Manchester. EDIT After finishing: Yeah only got worse. Genuinely have never been so bored in a survival horror, I was tempted to put on a podcast at points. Pretty terrible. 4/10
Kinda weak. The atmosphere works in the beginning, but gets very repetitive quick, Story is hard to care about and most of the game feels just like running around in large empty spaces with nothing worth finding. Even half the rooms in the buildings seem to just be empty and pointless.
"we have "we have silent hill at home" at home"
I like what it was trying to do and I love the idea of it, but the story telling is just not there for me. You get told pretty quickly how things went down and through just context clues and environmental story telling alone you can piece together the overall narrative. But the game still feels the need to tell you over and over again how awful things were in this place you explore with repetitive notes and the radio "calls" where you hear the voices of people in the past. I got tired of reading the notes by the 3rd end of the game and just started skipping them entirely because they just kept telling me the same thing over and over again. The combat was pretty busted, however it seems that the busted combat was circumvented by the enemies being a little too easy to deal with (I was on the "Intended" difficulty). I'd have rather the combat had been ironed out and the enemies made a lot more challenging, but I heard that this game was made entirely by one person, so I won't fault it too much for that. It's really a shame, because I really wanted to like this game, but it just doesn't quite do it for me.
Premise? Awesome. Vibes? Elite. Combat? Er... Unfortunately that's a bit of a deal breaker. I can't avoid combat, and you can't actually lock onto enemies and frequently miss. With the awkward movement, this results in easy and very avoidable deaths with improved design. Unfortunately I'm dropping this one.
