Update: Game has been abandoned by developers and sold to another company. This information is only available via their Discord, as they didn't deem it important enough to tell the players on the update news. This means there more than likely won't be new updates and bugs from launch are still in the game! Don't get scammed! Original review: I was a kickstarter for this game and boy am I pissed off at how this game has been handled. This game had such a cute premise. There were bugs on launch, yes, but nothing that couldn't have been handled and patched out. Instead, I see little to no communication from devs, their Discord is spammed out by scammers on the daily, and nothing really changing. After bringing it up in a discussion on the Steam Forum, someone pointed out that the original devs sold the game and abandoned development. This wasn't shared anywhere but in a single Discord post. It wasn't posted here on Steam at all, the developer quietly swapped over to the new one. No word if the game will be supported, no communication at all. Honestly, this developer should be avoided. I had so much faith and now I wish I didn't spend so many hours covering this game on YT, so I could get a refund.
Game is a great concept...but buggy as all hell and apparently the new owners feel no need to let the platforms know that the game was transferred and abandoned. DO NOT BUY From the Discord before the new owners abandoned: Mad Creature Creator — 9/11/2025 8:39 AM Transfer of rights to Haunted House Renovator and Offroad Mechanic Simulator. @Haunted House Renovator news As of this week, the rights to Haunted House Renovator have been sold to PlayWay. The rights to Offroad Mechanic Simulator have also been sold, although it remains on our Steam account for now. This was a very difficult decision and we hope that the new rights owner will treat our games well! Q: What does this mean for the players? A: Not much will change. Both games should remain available on Steam and you can continue to play them without issues. Console ports for HHR are nearly complete and should release soon™ but we will not be in charge of them so we cannot share any specific dates. Q: Will you continue to support the games you sold? A: As we no longer have the rights to HHR and OMS, we cannot provide any further support for these titles. Q: What will happen to this Discord server? A: For the time being, the server structure won't change. You're welcome to discuss any games we worked on
The developers sold the game and left it to be abandoned. I loved the concept of the game, but unfortunately its extremely buggy and broken at this point. There has been no updates on the discord server, and that's also seemingly been overrun by spammers now. I genuinely wish I could go back and refund the game, and I'm extremely disappointed in the developers for taking peoples money and running. Please don't buy the game. Its not worth your money, time, or love.
Do not buy. I don't post too many reviews, but this game is incredibly glitchy. You can play it, but don't expect to finish anything to complete and don't expect to solve most ghost problems the nice way. From what I have heard, it has been abandoned by the creators, and you will not get any help with the glitches.
To call this game a dissapointment would be an understatement. Briliant idea turned into a buggy, barely playable mess. You can't complete even half of the objectives. Major bugs are not fixed and no update info in sight. I truly loved the idea of this game and was so hyped to buy and play it and now all I feel towards it is a resentment. I even don't want to speedrun it just for the sake of completing it. It could've been so amazing, but at this point in time its just one big agony for everyone who loves renovation games. I hope it would be fixed at some point
It had potential. The game was fun but buggy. At first the devs were pushing fixes, but they have since sold the game to another company and it seems it's no longer being supported. The game has been dead for a while. Even the Discord channel is no longer moderated. If you want a finished game, avoid. This one's dead.
Potential. But in the first 30 minutes I've felt like I didn't have much choice. It's very guided, and that becomes boring rather fast.
I like the concept and most of the gameplay. There are many bugs in it at the moment and I haven't seen anything from the devs in the community page since fall 2025. I got stuck on a mission requiring me to perform the exorcism on a stairway that was too small to fit anything. Even on a new save file I get fatal errors. Good game, just needs a bit more tlc for the bugs, and I've seen some people saying devs have given up on it. I hope this isn't true. As of this time I wouldn't recommend the game, just from not being able to complete some missions. If it gets updates then I would 100% recommend.
Can't recommend. At the time I write this the games is still a bug ridden mess, with bugs that were present back in EA. The interface is overly simplified meaning you keep taking actions or doing things you don't intend to do as the 'context' of what you're doing changes with the tinest drift of the mouse cursor. Maybe give it a year or two.
I usually don't review games, but this one feels like it needs it. I wish I could give this a mixed review in it's current state. Because the concept is great but...well just read the rest of the review. I would love to have loved it, because the concept is right up my alley, and very unique...But the execution is not there. In it's current state, the game is incredibly broken to the point that I can only really say it runs (pretty decently mind you, but still unplayable for other reasons)...but in the 6 hours or so I've played, I have encountered so many game breaking bugs that I'd run out of fingers if I tried to count them. Most of the hauntings that you're supposed to be able to banish can't actually be banished the nice way. I spent a good hour of the six I played trying to banish one of the Mysticus Flyingus hauntings (flying books) and couldn't, I reloaded while trying to, and when I loaded back into the job the haunting had just straight up disappeared. The banishment ritual isn't explained well for that one, and I tried many things including just drawing the circle and placing the lectern (which is what the guide says is the nice way to banish the haunting) Task recognition also seems incredibly bugged, especially with wallpaper that needs to be replaced. Sometimes the task just doesn't disappear and if you scan for bad wallpaper using that upgrade, it'll just show all of the newly replaced wallpaper on top of the damaged wallpaper. Also while I can't confirm this, I didn't notice either the Bat or the Lantern Ghost actually doing their jobs when I used them as companions. I couldn't actually tell if they were working as intended. I stopped playing in the middle of the Painter's Apartment job because that was when the bugs just got intolerable, so I can't speak for most of the haunting types or the other contracts for that reason, but I do think I saw enough to judge. I can't in good conscience recommend this one at the current moment. Which really sucks, because like I said, it's a really cool concept that I'd love to see done well enough to be playable. But this just isn't. If you do want to try it though, wait until it's at least 60% off, if not more. I got it for 53% off and that's still not, in it's current state, enough of a discount to be justifiable to me.
