Haunted Hotel: The Thirteenth Collector's Edition

This isn't any different to any other HOGA for the last 8 years. It started off really well, I've never come across a game where you're essentially playing as a ghost, so i had high hopes, but was dismayed when I started seeing endless, pointless shapes you have to fill in weird inexplicable places that make zero sense why somebody would have. I appreciate these games stretch incredulity, but to have a star shape on the floor, that opens a floor board, which reveals a safe that you need an a clock shape to open, then gives you a bird that opens an ornament that reveals a film reel that then reveals a number to open a gate is ridiculous. There's no real "puzzle", you're simply churning. By that I mean you have to find an object, which then needs another object, which then needs a key etc. and so on. The puzzles were very easy, have been done a million different times. The hidden object parts were well drawn, the story line was weird, but interesting to a certain extent. I just really wish developers could look at previous classics, such as Maze 360, Ravenhearst etc. to comprehend why they were so good. They were PUZZLE games, they were innovative and refreshingly different. If I see another morphing object or another knot puzzle I'll scream. Play it if you're new to the genre, but don't bother if you've played these for a while.

One of the best so far in the Haunted Hotel series. The art work is perfectly creepy but, as usual for this genre, the animations are chunky. The puzzles and games are varied and interesting. The grim atmosphere is artfully and meticulously laid out. Great story and back story. The game is only three hours long but, overall, a great deal if you find it on sale.

Love horror themed HOGs and this one did not disappoint. It had some unique features I haven't seen before. Some of the puzzles were only ok, but you can use the hint and skip button. Also liked how you could find out more about the family. Recommended!

there was a buffer in which u had to collect energy to stay in the physical realm. it extended the game and i liked that

Grim from the start. Very easy on casual, would recommend a different setting during your first play through.

I love BFG so much, grew up playing them on my grandma's desktop and this hits a type of nostalgia that cannot be matched. I am a quick player and it still took me about 3 hours to finish the game, most games like this tend to only take me about 30min to an hour. Love the game play, love the story, and LOVE the morphing objects throughout.
