Bought it, played it, solved it, hardcore mode. Not a challenge in any way. Still, it was fun. Enjoyed laughing at the misspellings in the subtitles. Liked the "ghosts" that pop out for no reason at times, since half the time they weren't doing anything scary like being murdered or anything. Like a ghost maid standing there, or some guy sitting in a chair. Not scary, but weird enough to make me laugh and go "oookay...". From a technical standpoint, I did have issues with sounds looping endlessly and low frame rates, but I turned off the custom cursor option, and my Windows 10 didn't have any trouble after that. I think it was probably a security issue with changing the system cursor. The collector's edition features are actually not bad. The "music room" was bonkers, but everything else was pretty decent. Basically, I needed a palette cleanser from the crap I've been playing, and this type of game does the trick. Plus, it makes you feel like the smartest person alive. Good fun.
Found it almost impossible to play.....the curser was just one big square flashing all the time... and as its mainly a search and click game it just proved to hinder. Never had this problem with any other game iv paid for and downloaded from Steam... very disappointed.
It's not my fav HOG, but overall fun to play and worth a playthrough^^
really short, voice acting not great. best thing about it is you can feed cats. lost of clicking around to move from one side of the "map" to the other. not worth full price but if you like hidden objects it's okay to drop a few bucks on.
Very short, somewhat engaging, but not worth the price for how short it is unless you get it on sale like I did.
Like many of the older HOPA games, this one had good puzzles, HOS and while there were a couple of glitches, including the secret room not advancing each time I found the current set of items, I simply returned to the menu and from there selected secret room again, continue, and the new set of items to be found displayed.
Infuriating sense of logic, but overall fun
Hidden object games. The epitome of yin and yang. Plenty to love, plenty to hate. Okay, maybe hate is going a bit far. Those familiar to the genre will know what I'm talking about. More on that in a bit. Taking the intro cutscene in, you'd think the main character would have died before the game even started. Random falling asleep at the wheel, then waking up and seeing your car sailing through the air off a cliff... I half expected the first part of the game to be an amputation followed by one of those flower gathering and herb picking games so you can make some bush medicine. Albeit crawling across the ground while you scream in pain. Well gosh darn it, that didn't happen, so I guess the genre still isn't pushing any new boundaries, just staying safe and stagnant. Weirdly, you get dragged away by a ghost? ...and locked safely in a room. So the premise is you find yourself in a haunted house or something (never mind Silent Waters, I kept asking What Waters), and you aren't even alone! Some kids found it first so you have to rescue their sorry foreheads. For my return to the genre, as it has been a while, I decided to play Hardcore mode. Even with no tooltips and no hints (and not looking up any answers online, mind!) I only got stuck a few times. I guess even though I haven't played a HOG in a while, you never really forget how to play or what to expect. Surprisingly, playing on the highest difficulty doesn't penalise you for multiple misclicks, so feel free to spam that mouse all over the screen! That reminds me, I should totally make a wallpaper made up entirely of mouse cursors some day. The hardest parts of the game are outside of the hidden scenes for sure, but if you play on something like casual I'm sure this becomes a moot point. For me, I had maybe three spots that really annoyed me. The last of which, was figuring out what to do with the dynamite (this part is during the extra story). Now, this is where the infuriating part of the genre comes under the spotlight. I spent ages running around looking for somewhere to light the dynamite, as it isn't lit in my inventory. I find a candle and proceed to spend far too long trying all the pixels, thinking the devs must have the spot I need to hit slightly out of position. Eventually I found where to put it, and to my utter horror the dynamite self-ignites. And blows up right in front of me. Cue Monty Python's black knight. 'Tis just a scratch. I guess it's easy to get technical when some of the decisions seem so laughable. I mean, the extra chapter just shouldn't exist, it is so ridiculous. I don't believe it's any huge spoiler to say you play as a ghost in the extra chapter, so any notion of needing a key when you can just have instant access to every area on the map is kind of perplexing. Then you get the usual can't-kick-over-leaves conundrum, you need a cobweb brush for one of them, and a proper broom for the pile of leaves on the other side of the house. I had less frustration and more enjoyment with the main story though. Collection items come in three types: items that go to a 'music room', ghosty items that change shape, and odd little bits of stone that actually go into fixing a family crest. All these collectables carry over into the extra chapter so if you want to finish them you'll need to play that. Also keep in mind there are some points-of-no-return so it pays to be thorough in your search. That music room though. Ha! It is well worth finishing. Lets just say every object you collect is actually an instrument, and going into the room starts the music. It's very clever. I got a good grin out of it. Being a haunted house setting, the palette is awash with greys, but there's enough variety of scenes to keep you awake. Every now and then there'll be some scripted jump scares in the form of ghosts and sudden falling objects but it's very tame. The genre must remain stagnant at all times! No new ideas allowed! @_@ But I did love the little discordant sounds, and the non-intrusive background tunes. While there are no achievements or cards on steam at the time of this review, there ARE in-game. Also, I'm pretty sure the extras menu doesn't appear until the main story is completed. It isn't that bad though - once I noticed collectables were in the extra chapter, I realised I didn't miss any, and managed to get all three collections finished without having to backtrack. Achievement hoarders might be dismissive of this title purely due to no steam achievements, but anything that tracks achievements is fine in my mind. The game boasts a lot of fun things to look at and do in the extras once you finish the story, but if you're an expert object hunter you might find the game finishes very fast, even if you get stuck a few times. Might be worth waiting for a discount, or maybe it's time to get stuck into your backlog!
The game was very intriguing i wish the main story of the game would be more longer. The Graphics were great and very detailed i could not put the game down at all. the bonus games were also great to play , well done to all involved who created a great game.:)
This is a great game. I would recommend this game to everyone. 5 stars.
It's fine, still runs well on Windows 10. That right kind of cheesy, though a couple minigames were frustrating. Never a fan of "trial and error" minigames and this has at least three. Hidden Object Scenes are fine.
