For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. Underquest is a fun blending of a roguelite adventure and fast paced inventory management. What to keep and combine will determine your victory or defeat.
The Story & Gameplay
A rogue lite game that blends dungeon crawling with inventory management. You fight your way through randomly generated dungeons packed with beasties and bosses but instead of picking up loot like most rpg’s that you hoard and use to craft the ultimate build, you have to decide on the fly what to do with the loot you find in this game. You can combine items to create new attacks or moves, or you can dismantle items but you have to decide then and there. You play as Tristan and your character automatically attacks enemies (auto battler) and each attack brings loot into your inventory. As you gain loot you drag to combine spells to make new ones, get gold (just click on the gold to claim it) and get weapons and gear you can slot into your character's profile. As you explore the dungeon you will be faced with doors and have to choose which one to go through. Every door leads to a unique event and grants different rewards. The door will indicate what type of loot you will expect to be rewarded with (a chest, a weapon or gear). Some rooms have modifiers that make the fights easier or more difficult but always give some gold as a reward. As you battle up the ranks the difficulty increases and you will eventually fight 3 big bosses. Along the way you will meet some cool characters in the local tavern between runs. Each one you meet has a story to tell and will grant you perks and sell you stuff to permanently improve your character. Each new dungeon run makes you start over for obtaining gear and upgrading it but you keep the perks you buy outside of the dungeon from the characters you meet (such as increasing weapon damage or more health).
Tips N Tricks
🔹 Merge coins together to get more gold from them 🔹 Experiment, merge spells that are not always the same 🔹 Forge the same pieces of equipment to enhance it 🔹 Merge bombs together to make a better one 🔸 To disassemble an item drag it to the hammer icon on the bottom right side of your inventory. Disassembling items gives you a bit of gold in return. There is no way to sell items at vendors so this is how you get rid of extra items.
Heads up on save files
Watch out so you do not accidentally overwrite your save file. If you click “new game” this will happen.
Settings & Features
Settings & features include; language, audio controls and low or high settings. The game will only run in full screen mode (even putting commands into properties will not force a windowed mode). There are three challenges to choose from; story, adventure or challenge.
Overall Experience
This game is fun and has a lot of replay-ability as the dungeons are randomly generated. It does get hectic however to battle enemies while doing inventory management at the same time. So you have to keep your eyes on the battle and combine items simultaneously. You do eventually get into the “flow” of things but in the beginning it can get a bit much with some fights. Overall I am having a good time with this game, it can be as long or as short of a game as you wish it to be. I went back and did all the content in the first dungeon (three dungeons total) so I am still working my way through the story campaign at a slower pace and doing all the side stuff. ⚔️

Otome Lovers wishes to thank Otherside Bay Studio for providing a free review copy for this game. Extremely short and lacks replayability The game is not a true roguelike , there are no randomized runs or procedural progression. Instead, you play through a linear story mode that took me about 3 hours to complete. Once you've finished the story and unlocked all upgrades (which also took less than 3 hours), there's nothing else to do. No additional modes, no real incentive to replay. I can’t recommend it in its current state, especially if you're looking for a game with long-term value or replayability. Buyer beware.
Simple indie inventory management rougelike. I like the skill system, but in the end, I frantically tried to empty my inventory, and I couldn't really watch the fight. Other than that, I had my fun with it.
Смесь Roguelite, Dungeon Crawler и Auto Battler.

TLDR: A clever spell-combining puzzle mechanic that's just engaging enough to carry you to the finish line, but the bare-bones world, poor storytelling, and lack of longevity make it feel like a proof of concept.

PROS:
➕Cute chibi characters ➕Good puzzle elements ➕Roguelite upgrades
CONS:
➖Currency quickly becomes useless ➖Story is hard to follow ➖Low replay value ➖No spellbook that shows spell combinations - have to memorize it
Content (Game world/Narrative) – [3/10]
The game world only consists of multiple dungeons with very little diversity. The home hub is only two screens with a few NPCs to chat with, each only having a few lines of dialogue. Otherwise, there isn’t any exploration or secrets to find, it’s all very bare-bones and samey. The story is told in a confusing way that I found hard to follow. You get tidbits of dialogue given to you at the end of dungeon runs that act as a conversation between two characters. After about the 5th one of these, I became uninterested and didn’t care about the world or its lore. The game doesn’t do a great job at telling a story.
Gameplay (Mechanics/Difficulty) – [6/10]
Gameplay loop consists of picking a dungeon route, going through the dungeon while solving your inventory puzzle to cast spells, all while gaining powerful passive effects and gear in order to survive the harder fights and boss(es) at the end. At the most fundamental, the mechanic consists of matching elemental sigils to create effects. Two earth sigils will make a healing spell, while an earth and an ice gives a protective barrier. This mechanic is expanded slightly as you progress allowing a 2nd tier of upgrades to be done and combining sigils with gear. As a player, you’ll spend the majority of the time playing the combine puzzle mechanic, but there are cases where you must quickly react to spells on screen, like clicking a flag before its activities to stop a spell, or interrupting projectiles as they fly to you. Your hero will auto attack targets, but you can choose which one they attack first. I rather enjoyed the subtle choices as it makes the game not only about the puzzle aspect. For difficulty, I played on the “Normal” option and found it generally easy. There’s a roguelite mechanic that the player pretty much must utilize to get to the harder runs to make them much more powerful. Often, my failed runs were due to poor RNG, but the game is often very forgiving.
Graphics (Quality/Technical) – [5/10]
Graphics are cute. Reminds me of chibi or Funkopop characters. Otherwise, it’s fairly basic and around PS2-fidelity. UI, which is really important for an inventory management game works good enough. There are some issues with clicking vs. clicking and dragging, especially when you unlock the ability to combine spells with equipment - this can cause you to use spells on gear accidentally when you’re simply trying to manage your inventory. Technical side is simple, not a lot of options. I didn’t notice any bugs. 1440p @ 240hz | installed on SSD
Audio – [5/10]
It’s okay. There are only a few songs and the notes I kept hearing reminds me of Nightmare Before Christmas. No voice acting.
Replay Factor (Longevity) – [3/10]
Low value here. I casually completed the game in under 4 hours, leaving only the ability to replay again on a harder difficulty. Lacks any online components and almost all the achievements can be gotten in a single run. There are dialogue choices, but it doesn't seem to impact the story.
Final Verdict – [5/10]
Underquest (UQ) accurately describes itself as an inventory management roguelite. I found the puzzle elements to be good enough to complete the game once, but found it sorely lacking in most other areas. The game world and story were a letdown. I found the world to be repetitive and uninteresting while the story is told rather poorly through some sort of memory meant to imitate of conversation between characters. Also, UQ severely lacks longevity or any sort of interesting systems to keep the player around. After only a few hours, you’ll run out of roguelite upgrades to buy and be left with an ever-increasing useless amount of gold. After you beat the game, which took me under 4 hours, there’s nothing to do but replay it on a harder difficulty. But despite all of this, the inventory management spell mechanics were just barely enough to keep me interested to completion. I really liked when you get to the final dungeon tiers how the mid-bosses offer some crazy upgrades that really allow you to have some fun, but I just wish that I got more time to have this fun and not within the last half hour of the story. UQ has a good creative foundation with its puzzle combining system, but it greatly needs to be expanded upon for this to be a great game. As such, this is tough to recommend because it almost feels like a proof of concept. Overall though, I enjoyed it enough to finish, so I’ll give it a thumbs up.
Recommend? (Price) [Y/N]

Yes
$10 base price is a bit much. I’d suggest anything around $5 is a better price point considering the content. The art is nothing to write home about, but the gameplay is a darn good time. Fast paced, but never overwhelming.
