Hatred is definitely a controversial game, and it's not something that will appeal to everyone. However, putting its subject matter aside, there is a surprisingly solid top-down shooter underneath. The strongest aspect of Hatred is its atmosphere. The monochromatic art style, grim presentation, heavy sound design, and destructive environments give the game a distinctive identity. Watching buildings, vehicles, and parts of the environment get destroyed during intense firefights is genuinely satisfying. The gameplay is straightforward but effective. You move, shoot, take cover, use different weapons, and try to survive increasingly chaotic encounters. There isn't a huge amount of mechanical depth, but the combat can become intense and enjoyable when you're surrounded by enemies and everything starts falling apart. The biggest weaknesses are the lack of variety and replay value. Missions can start to feel repetitive, enemy encounters aren't particularly complex, and the game doesn't offer much beyond its core shooting experience. The story is also extremely minimal, so players looking for meaningful characters or narrative depth won't find much here. Despite these flaws, I think Hatred works reasonably well as a short, brutal, atmospheric action game. It's not a masterpiece, and its controversial premise can easily overshadow the actual gameplay, but the destruction, visual style, and chaotic combat give it enough personality to stand out. **7/10 — Recommended if you enjoy simple, brutal top-down shooters and don't mind a repetitive gameplay loop.**
