this actually has to be one of the worst games that I have had the displeasure of playing. I got it because I am a fan of the postal series, and I knew that this was a "fan" game of the first postal game, but after playing it I think that they just saw the success of postal 1 and 2 and decided that they wanted to make their own "edgy shooter". I must admit that it was amusing when "not important" said "only my weapon understands me", but unless you are an actual psychopath that is the only amount of amusement that you will find. If you are a fan of the first postal game, you would know that even thought the game has the same premise as hatred, it still has it's charm. The charm of the game is part of the reason why so many people liked it, and it is for that reason that I believe that the people behind this game aren't even real fans of postal, because they have stripped any and all charm from the game, down to the color. Now then, what about the gameplay? I mean... that is the whole point of a game... to play it. Well, it's terrible! for starters, the main way to heal is to execute people on the ground, kind of like doom's glory kills, however, unlike doom's glory kills, the executions of this game are pretty lame and repetitive. Along with that, it is a very unreliable way to heal since it isn't guaranteed that someone will stay alive after you shoot them so they can be executed, and it requires you to stay perfectly still. The game also likes to swarm you with officers and swat members after you've been in a level for long enough. The game will tell you that "there is no shame in retreating blah blah blah" but it spams so many people in just the 3rd level that running away is useless because you'll still get swarmed. "Just shoot them" I hear you potential reader saying, well I tried, I mean I am a gamer after all. Well, you need bullets to shoot, and unlike in postal, this game gives you a limited amount of ammo per magazine that you will need to reload when empty. THIS MAN TAKES HIS SWEET TIME RELOADING HIS WEAPONS WHILE HE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A FIRE FIGHT. It was actually infuriating just being forced to try dodging gunfire from 20 officers just to reload a single weapon that would run out of ammo after only killing maybe half of them at most. I suspect that the fans of this "game" are just edge lords who play it on the easiest difficulty so they can kill people in a violent video game. I have never felt such a need to write a negative review for a game in my life so if you read this and decided not to buy the game, let me know so that I know that the almost an hour I spent playing it was not in vain.
spiritual successor to the original postal game but more cringe and kinda lame, still fun tho
I've honestly wanted to play Hatred for quite a while. Back in 2018, when I first heard about the game, it seemed really interesting—or at least fun—based on what I'd seen. The point is, I really wanted to play it. However, after finally sitting down and playing it, it's honestly a shame to see that the game turned out to be a disappointment. After struggling through and reaching the downtown level, I fully gave up and decided to stop playing. The story and the character honestly don't do much for me. I understand why some people might find it extremely edgy or not that good, but I don't mind it at all. That isn't the problem here. Where my real issues lie is with the gameplay and missions. The FOV is a major frustration. Enemies can shoot you from outside your field of view—even when you can see them on the map—without you being able to aim at them directly. This often results in losing a lot of health, and I can see it getting really annoying on higher difficulties. I genuinely don't understand why there isn't an FOV slider in the game. On top of that, the gameplay gets repetitive quite fast. The shooting and executions feel a bit shallow. Sometimes the quest markers would bug out, leaving me running around the map with no idea who to kill. I just wish there was a permanent quest marker that showed the number of remaining people you had to eliminate. As for the difficulty—don't even get me started. Even on Hard (which isn't the toughest setting), it just isn't fun. I can see the game being short, but I'm not willing to put myself through all this frustration just to say I finished it. My final recommendation is simple: do not buy the game. Trust me.
Hatred...
This is the only game Gabe Newell personally reinstated back to Steam after its removal. It's that good. Also less than 2 euros? Yes please! It's an alright small game where you, the antagonist, hate people and want to wipe them out. Fairly simple plot. Switch off your brains and shoot them in either story or survival mode. I would keep this installed to play offline, during internet outages.
A positively splendid romp through unfiltered chaos, despite the occasional whiff of absolute poo. Let us not pretend this game possesses hidden depths worthy of scholarly debate. One purchases this title for only two noble pursuits: 1. You fancy listening to your favourite podcast yet require your eyeballs to be occupied with something vaguely productive 2. You desire a hearty serving of outrageously excessive, utterly nonsensical poo violence I do possess a rather shameful fondness for these delightfully brain damaged games. However, this is not some disposable heap of asset flipped tomfoolery hastily assembled over a long weekend. Quite the contrary. Peel away the edgy layer of poo and adolescent shock value and beneath it lies a genuinely entertaining game with some of the finest destruction physics I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Every explosion is a miniature theatrical performance, with walls and objects collapsing in a most satisfying fashion. The levels are pleasantly varied as well and the challenge escalates at a respectable pace, ensuring the experience never quite descends into repetitive buffoonery. Purchase it only when it is on sale like the financially responsible aristocrat you undoubtedly are. Then do yourself an immeasurable favour and install the FPS mod. The default top down view is, if you will pardon the technical terminology, utter poo. The FPS mod transforms the experience entirely. To play without it is rather like insisting on eating soup with a fork. Possible? Perhaps, but why would one subject oneself to such buffoonery? I shall entertain no further debate on the matter Essential Mod : FPS Mod - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2872983524
💛6/10 - Hatred: Downtown on Insane made me want to cry. [-] Bad / negative [+] Good / positive [+/-] Mixed / could go either way - [+] Gameplay feels very nice when you get the hang of the controls. [-] Objects in this game can be a nuisance. >Vehicles physically getting stuck on them. >Trees blocking bullets from the mounted turret of the S.W.A.T. and ARMY vehicles. >When lacking speed, tiny objects will stop your vehicle in its tracks. >Your character model gets blocked by them. >The hitboxes on doors and some ground objects completely stop your character from moving. [-] Vaulting is inconsistent: sometimes you vault an obstacle as intended; other times, you repeatedly collide with it waiting for the game to register that you are attempting to vault. [-] You throw items like a baby. If you are several feet away from a vehicle and attempt to throw an item over the hood, it hits the vehicle instead. You can alter the range you throw an item, but the default range is inadequate. > In addition, grenades aren't as powerful as you'd hope. On people, they're great; however, when throwing them at vehicles (mainly cars), they're lackluster. On numerous occasions, a grenade with only ignite a vehicle, which then explodes 5-10 seconds later. [-] Off-screen enemies shooting at you is one of the game's most irritating design choices. > On higher difficulties, this urges you to run away as you can't see them. [-] Enemies hitting you when you can't hit them. An example of this is you crouching behind cover, but still taking damage due to getting shot over the top of it. In this position, you cannot hit them, but they can hit you. > This happens a fair bit on the army base level in the vehicle. You cannot hit a target at distance, but they can hit your vehicle. [-] I had a recurring issue with throwables not releasing. > On Insane, this issue was the cause of numerous deaths. [+/-] The "You should see a shrink"/ "Hatred commando" achievements feel deliberately made to pour hours into the game. [+/-] The flamethrower has knockback for some reason. > This has the side effect of inverting your controls (i.e. rolling forwards rolls backwards). [+/-] There's almost no story. The gameplay *is* the story.
This games brutal and very satisfying to play really good physics also

The one-man-army game. And I mean literally one man against an army. The game doesn't feel fair, especially since you're the only one fighting endless enemies under the same conditions. But then again, why would the bad guys care about being fair? The AI also has wall hacks just like you, so if you think the top-down view gives you an advantage, think again. There isn't a normal difficulty. You start with Easy, then jump straight to Hard, and it only gets tougher from there. I chose Hard for my first playthrough, and it's been pretty challenging. I don't think I'll be able to finish Insane mode, but we'll see. The difficulty curve (in one mode) is all over the place. One moment it's insultingly easy, and the next it's ridiculously difficult. Be ready to get frustrated once the game stops holding your hand. There's barely any story. You start by killing a few guys, then eventually wipe out humanity (ofc, for no reason other than pure hatred.). The side quests feel pretty pointless, but at least they spice things up between missions, so I'll give +1 for that. Well, this game is hard and doesn't play fair. If you enjoy beating difficult games that constantly push back against you, you'll probably have a good time.
