This game is worth more than its weight in all the IDM songs it ships with
One of the under-the-radar greats! I still hold on to my original copies on CD. No game has ever been quite the same for me and I've gone back to it repeatedly for over 20 years. I bought it on sight to support it and deeply hope to see a sequel or true remaster one day. This game is worth every penny if you want a true unique experience from the late 90's. The game does not disappoint and allows you to have complete freedom to do as you wish.
Hardwar is a Sci-Fi Retro Flight simulation with cool music and atmosphere. You are a freelance "Moth" pilot trying to survive in the city of Misplaced Optimism on Titan. You can become a merchant, pirate, bounty hunter or scavenger. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/WkXpOSOD11s You will explore the world of the planet and visit various cities located inside craters connected by a network of tunnels. The colony fell into decay, and the colonists lost the ability to travel in space after large corporations left the planet. Now criminal gangs rule here. The local police cannot resist them. Everything changes when an unidentified alien ship crashes. You must get ahead of your competitors, find aliens, and help them repair the ship in order to leave the planet with them. The original version was made for PCs in 1998 (developed by The Software Refinery and published by Gremlin Interactive/Interplay), and then in 2023 Funbox Media, Jordan Freeman Group and ZOOM-Platform.com release a Steam version.
This is a rare gem! I played this game for 100s of hours in the early 2000's and really happy it is brought back to life, truly :). It is kinda sandbox trade / fight / build game. See it as a far predecessor of the X3 / X4 games. The plot is nice but short, the game is more about enjoying the eerie foggy atmosphere and the surroundings. There are a couple different moths (planes running on solar powered batteries) and a couple weapons to slap onto them. This game stems from a time games came in a box with a manual in it to read before starting to play, Expect no tutorial and prepare to jump into the deep end :) See you in the city of Misplaced Optimism!
This is one of the *best* all time space pirate fighter/trader games ever created of all time. I will argue that no single new game today even remotely compares to this one. All someone would have to do is remake this game with today's technology and you would be a millionaire. I absolutely do not understand why that hasn't been done yet. The replay ability of this game is unbelievable. Try this game. You absolutely will not be disappointed.
Desolate, murky and inhumane. There's just nothing like (Misplaced) Optimism.
On my god. FINALLY!! Guys if your reading this and have no idea what this game is, this is my childhood, got this game as a demo in like 1997-8 and LIVED IN THIS WORLD the fact that steam has this game FILLS me with a happyness no other game has matched, its made is 1997! and its still really good, yes the AI ships get buggy but its from 1997!!! if you love space ship shims this is for you! and the funny thing is its not even in space xD tip: rebind your controls as they are OG controls back when gaming keyboard layouts where chaos! 11/10 game, one of the most underrated and unknown games of the century
As an old fan of this game, and owner of the original CD's, I'm glad to see Steam pick up this game and port it for use on modern Windows 10 or later pc machines. Optical drives are being phased out, the latest laptops no longer have a CD drive, and external CD drives are awkward to use with the original CD discs. Also, not having to switch CD's mid-game is another advantage of the Steam version of fhis game. Setting up the Display settings on the Steam version is annoying as i had found it necessary to try several different display options before finding one that properly centered and sized the game video output for my machine. However, once that has been done, the game works well. You have the choice of either playing through the game scenario, or by ignoring the ** highlighted messages you can play inside the game world as an open-ended sandbox however you like. You can act like a trader, a scavenger, a pirate-hunter, or a pirate, or all once. With the appropriate devices and garage spaces, with time and patience, you can eventually set yourself up as a narcotics manufacturer, missile outfitter, or even just as the absentee owner of a collection of repair shops in each of the craters for other moths. When this game was created in 1998, it was well ahead of its time. It is very replayable, and decades later I still find myself drawn back to it. Just for the ease and convenience of having this game to play on my Windows 11 machine, it's well worth the $10 that Steam sells it for.
