Look I'm gonna be honest. This game is kinda rough around the edges. The art can be inconsistent in quality, the writing is often cheesy in a way that can be immersion-breaking, sometimes it seems like continuity breaks down a little between storylines. But if you give it a chance, this game rewards you with a profound sincerity. Maybe that seems like a weird place to start in a review of an adult game. I'll get there. For better *and* for worse, a lot of the writing is deep in the 2010s/20s online transfemme cultural idiom. This means sometimes you'll read a line and feel a bit of secondhand embarrassment well up inside you and you're going to want to alt+f4 and die inside a little, but I need you to quash that down, give yourself permission to be cringe, and keep reading. Because pretty soon you're gonna read a line that just *gets* it, that drops the bottom out of your stomach and then holds you and tells you it's gonna be okay. Well... I guess I'm making an assumption that you, reading this review, are also transfeminine. Maybe that's not true, but either way let's get something clear from the jump. The [insert transphobic slur here] category on your favorite dubiously legal adult film streaming website, this absolutely the ♥♥♥♥ is not. But if that's what you're here for, you probably either were already turned off by the art style or bought it without thinking, cringed, and uninstalled. So I'm making an educated guess. Now make no mistake, this is a smut game. Well over half of the story chapters involve at least one sex scene. And those scenes are *good*. But they're written for a transfemme audience, or at minimum an audience that is willing to inhabit an explicitly transfemme perspective for a time. If that's not you, politely give the dev your money anyway and then be on your way, but if you're either of those things (and again, why tf are you reading this review if you're not), you will almost certainly enjoy the smut. It's varied, it's frequent, it's hot, and if you've got a kink, chances are pretty good you'll find it represented in here somewhere! But you'll also find genuinely charming characters, explorations of trauma and grief, meditations on the nature of consciousness and personhood, and, with any luck, a little bit of yourself shown back to you through the eyes of a lover. Because the one thing I need you to understand about this game more than anything is that it LOVES being transgender. It loves trans womanhood. It loves transfeminine bodies. It loves hot kinky gay t4t sex. And it loves all the different ways transfemmes love each other. Play it. Jerk your girldick and your girlheartstrings at the same time.

terrible advertising, i was not expecting a comfort game to cry and fall in love with and too make me feel so at home, how dare you trick me
I really appreciate this game bringing forward positive trans and lesbian rep that isn't using identities as fetish content. I am so tired of going to the lgbtq+ adult tag and only seeing "femboy" and "futa" games (or games catered to gay men), so it's really nice to see genuine representation of trans people throughout this game. While the game is generally catered towards lgbtq+ folks, there is a setting that basically disables nsfw encounters with men--which made me happy as a lesbian. I feel like it's so hard to find games that cater to a lesbian (or sapphic) audience. In addition, there's a *lot* of different kinks/fetishes explored within the game. While not all of it are things I am into, I did appreciate the variety--there were some fantasies I'd never quite understood, but after seeing their scenes I felt like I'd learned something new. I respect that. For $16.99 I'd hope to get a game that offers a wide variety of nsfw scenes, and this game certainly delivered. If there's something you're not quite interested in seeing, you can simply say no and skip over it. And if you want to rewatch a moment, you can use the computer in HC's room to go back. While the game is for nsfw content at its core, the story line is pretty good. I'm not going to pretend I came here for a story-intense game. I am a perv at heart, and I assume anyone else reading this is mainly interested in the adult content as well. But I've invested several hours for a reason beyond wanting to get off. Each character has their own storylines that feel rewarding to play through. Explicit scenes aren't just presented as a "reward," and not every interaction will result in that content. You get to learn about the characters, their lives, their problems, through their dialogue. But anyways! Intimacy is overall presented in a very healthy manner, not just as a means to an end, or something you're obligated to. Sex is overall presented as something that can deepen bonds between people, be they friends or not (though there are a couple dubious moments, which are still consensual/you're playing into, if you decide to of course). Overall, Hardcoded has become a standard for me on what I want out of an adult game. At no point did I feel like the content was corny, and as an lgbtq+ person I felt seen in a positive light. Play this if you want a game that celebrates trans identities, kink, and general sexuality in an earnest way. I look forward to seeing if Ghost Hug makes anything else in the future, whether it be another adult game or something for a more general audience.
The 4th law of robotics says all robots must be trans and gay. I know it's true, Asimov told me himself.
was so enamored with the story, theme, and visuals, that the sudden girldick handedly reminded me i was playing a 'porn' game. nsfw content aside, this game is a great exploration of the newly burgeoning trans woman, of being scared to be yourself, and the want to run away from everything and start again. absolutely recommend
for the girls, gays and theys
thank God for t-girls
Extremely good. This game is definitely targeted towards trans women though so it may not resonate with you as deeply if you aren't one. For me, the pornographic content in the game played second fiddle to the emotional relationships in this game. The scenes are certainly animated well and I enjoyed them a lot, however they weren't the main take away. The game focuses a lot on the emotional relationship between your body and the people around you in a way I found deeply relatable and uncomfortable (This is a good thing though!). Sometimes I found the writing hard to follow and depending on the order you do the stories in things may get a little wonky, but I can easily overlook this for the moments when the writing really clicked for me. I cried several times while playing this game and I think for that alone it deserves to be recommended.
I assume this is what being a trans girl living in Seattle is like
Honestly, adult content aside, this game does a better job of talking about transfem experiences than any other piece of of media I've seen. I might be a little biased because I went through some really similar experiences- but I think that the story captures the emotions behind transition, dysphoria, found family, and queer romance really well. And it's also hot! So that's neat! <3
