I would not recommend this. I bought this because the art style looked cool, and it is, but this unfortunately wasn’t enough to keep me interested. The gameplay involves walking from one location to the next and talking to characters in order to learn where to go next and learning new spells to unlock access to new areas. While some of the NPC dialogue is pretty funny and the spell animations are pretty cool, the gameplay itself bored me quite quickly. Combat is pretty much clicking “use” on your weapon or casting a spell while close enough to the enemy, then backing up when they swing at you. This, figuring out which spell to use to access a new areas, along with walking and talking to NPCs is pretty much the whole game as far as I can tell. It involves a lot of backtracking and using new spells to access areas previously inaccessible, which really wore me out and ate up a few hours during which I found myself bored. Nice job to the creator on making something unique and visually appealing, but due to the gameplay itself I wouldn’t recommend this other than maybe if you are curious to see the art style and laugh at the writing. Music is well done also.
A charming homage to old 2.5D games with the right amount of edge and cringe to make it quite endearing. The acting makes for some hilarious moments and the puzzle work is easy enough to keep you enjoying it. Some funny moments and some clever combinations of puzzles. Final boss felt a bit rushed tho but the others are great and make expert use of the spell system. Favourite quote from the entire game: "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!"
Divertido, joguem.
A short and sweet game. Games of this description usually leave me wanting more but in this instance the game ends just before it overstays its welcome. The main draws are, unsurprisingly, its graphics and tone, of which the game delivers consistently. The gameplay itself is antiquated and very simple, you basically just traverse mostly linear levels while casting spells to clear obstacles in your path. My only minor gripe is that the game never really challenges you to use your spells creatively, each spell can usually only clear exactly one type of obstacle- that might sound worse than it is, the game is short and consistently gives you new spells, so it never quite got tedious. The game's true staying power for me was its spell casting system, wherein every spell is a unique combination of "words" you must remember and execute properly, it's quite fun and satisfying to rip them off from memory. The game IS buggy, though, almost unfortunately, most of them break saves outright- there is no manual save/load system, so there's little recourse whenever one is encountered but to restart. There is a tutorial for making external backups in the steam community which I'd highly recommend.
short fun game, extremely charming, but also very buggy, for me nothing that a quick quit out to the main menu couldn't solve but i can see how that might get annoying. it's mostly an adventure game where you run around the levels gathering spells and looking for items to complete puzzles and progress, with some secrets scattered around to reward exploratio, and i didn't have many moments in which i didn't know where to go or what to do. i absolutely recommend it, but keep in mind the jank and the bugs
I had a very good time playing hand of doom. I would recommend it if you're looking for something unique and charming. Other reviews talk a lot about bugs and softlocks. I found the game to be fine. I think there were two occasions I got bugged in my playthrough, both of which were easily resolved by simply returning to the menu and then resuming the game. The cutscenes and dialogue are a personal highlight, alongside punching a tree to death with my fist. Overall it's a load of fun, had a blast (fireball reference)
It was a very fun and creative game, had a blast playing it. Really succeeds at that old school rpg aesthetic. Puzzles were challenging but not too difficult that I needed a guide. Boss fights were fun and had me using everything I'd learned, especially the final one. Overall, a criminally underrated game, such a shame that so few people have picked up this game.
