My Impression:
I love hacking sims and am proficient in real life penetration testing. I own and loved uplink and hacknet (hacknet being the best hacking sim I have played). I went into this with an open mind. This is more of a visual novel than an actual game. There are minigames that are either too easy or make no sense in the context of the game.
Positive:
+ Achievements + Steam trading cards
Negatives:
- Price for what you are getting, worth $0.99 - Minigames that make no sense, dream sequences - Unrealistic environment, most of your time is spent clicking next. The desktop environment is an area clickable region, meaning you can click away from a folder, but it still opens the folder. - You just click buttons like: download, fix virus, etc. Not much thought or gameplay involved. - Story? There really isn't one. It uses buzz words to sound hacker-ish like script kiddie, keylogging, etc - Extremely tedious and boring with unnecessary screen effects - Generic files, fix_it to fix a virus, let's hack a machine and send ourselves money, not realistic at all - Overall, poor execution on every front of a video game: gameplay, sound, graphics, etc
Bad Game:
2/10 If you are expecting anything close to real hacking or a game like hacknet, you will be disappointed. Not worth the price, and not even worth the sale unless its $0.99 or less and you are a huge fan of the genre
What even is this? This feels more like a visual novel, rather than a game. You don't do anything other than press the "Next" button. Literally. That would be ok if the story was any good. But everything feels like it was slapped together in a weekend. The story is awful. The screen is eyebleedingly bad. I can't believe I spent money on this.
Terrible! Not only does this give you a headache from the moving screen, but also the gameplay at base is not good. I expected a little challenge, when you first get introduced and then you have to figure it out by typing in some sort of codes. instead all you do is press the button that appears on the screen. I would definitly NOT recommend this game!
Very boring game, Came into it hoping for another Hacknet or Uplink style game, got a poor visual novel that forces you to just sit there and just press a button prompt when directed with no real choice on your part. Definitely not worth $5
i think the most positive thing i can say about this game is that i don't have to play it anymore. ever. if you wanted to build a prison where you'd want to exclusively punish hackers for their crimes, i would put this game there and make them play it for an hour every day for like...a day...because honestly...anything more would be against the geneva convention..if you had to complete this game before you could receive bitcoin cybercrime would end tomorrow.. i wonder what dan, the credited developer of this game, was thinking when he built this. honestly, i was thinking about the various boring sequences and what it would be like to "test" this game..did he have some "speed" mode? did he maybe write a whole scripted subsystem that dynamically generates this game so he doesn't have to actually run it ever? this is what i would do if i was sent to said prison and was tasked with writing this game rather than playing it..i am not sure what would be worse honestly.. When i first ran the game i thought..ok..a poor man's uplink...oh my...this has as much to do with uplink as wargames has to do with hacking.. or...uplink itself i suppose. if you're saying to yourself..mm..this sounds so bad i must give this a shot and see what the terrible fuss is all about...perhaps you should. judging by this game i think the developer could really use the money.
If you're looking for a hacking game, look elsewhere. This is a visual novel, and not a terribly good one at that. All you do is hit buttons. Pads its runtime with long sections of dead space. I get that the majority of the text is meant to be chatting with your button-y overlord, but the spelling mistakes are a bit too much.
I love hacking games, so unfortunately I bought this without reading any reviews first. This is not a hacking game. It's not even a game at all, unless you consider pressing space to proceed to the next line of cringeworthy dialogue and occasionally clicking a button or navigating a crude minigame to be "gameplay". When a game is advertised as having an interactive terminal and unique hacking tools, I expect to, you know, have to at some point USE these wonderful features. Showing the ASCII equivalent of a cutscene of a command line being used in response to me pressing the spacebar doesn't quite fit the bill. I usually shrug off bad games as a learning experience if I feel that I at least got some value for money, but this was so poor that now for the first time ever in my library of almost 1,000 games I am about to proceed to the refund page as soon as I've posted this.
While I enjoy point-and-click games and visual novels, this game wasn’t very good. There’s really no story, you just hack random systems and sometimes there’s mini games and choices. And that’s it. The idea is good, but the lack of story really annoyed me. I liked the weird graphics and the BGM, but at least in my opinion there’s a lot to improve on this title. Saying that, I cannot recommend this game, but maybe you can get it on a huge sale just to get the cards and easy achievements. 3/10.
Never trust anyone. Ever. Trust me.
All I can say is this game is boring, grammatically incorrect, factually incorrect and has nothing to do with hacking.
