I was looking for a game like this for a long time and, in the end, I decided to buy it and I have not regretted it at all. I got what I was looking for: an addictive arcade style gameplay with some interesting challenges. It definitely reminds me a lot of the games that people couldn't stop playing in arcades in the 90's.
Gunman Tales is a fun game unless you want to play with mouse and keyboard. you can but you can not remap your buttons and theirs are all over the place and it took me a few tries to find everything. this has 3 modes: quest, arcade and duel. in duel you just try to be the first to shoot when the game tells you and you win. in adventure you play the shooting parts where you are at the bottom shooting enemies that fumble around up top as you roll out of the way of their bullets. in quest mode you pick 1 of 4 characters then all 4 are given turns to move on a map (none picked characters will be played by the ai). in this mode landing on dots puts you in one of the shooting levels, landing on other characters puts you in duel, landing on a town gives you access to some shops (the doc will heal 1hp per donation), card games, and the Sharif that can give you missions for cash, then there's the Native Americans that want fire water and your house will heal you 1hp. there could be some other things but that's the gist of it. the games a lot of fun and if they gave a remap option i'ed rate it higher but as it it now mouse/keyboard controls are a mess but it's still worth it. 5/10
I am a big fan of games of this style (Cabal, Opertaion Wolf, Blood Bros), they take me back to a time when I had a lot of fun in the arcade rooms spending my coins, so when I saw this game I decided to buy it. The western vibe and the pixelart are pretty cool, and the music fits him like a glove. It's not as hectic as the games I cited above, but it's fun and entertaining for a couple of hours. Asteriskel rating: * * * * * * *
Not recommended, but might be fun if you don't mind the controls. Hmmm... This was a disappointment, but could have been a pleasant surprise. The overall presentation has a nice retro feel and the premise allows it to be played over and over, especially with friends. So why can't I recommend it? The controls... The way the aiming and character movement are tied together doesn't work for me, so much so that I am completely put off. Such a shame too because I thought I was going to enjoy this one.
This one is tough, because I really want to like this game. It's got tons of texture, it looks and feels great, and it feels like a fun place to be (if that makes sense.) I boot it up and I have that initial "let's go!" sensation--which, let's be honest, not every game captures that. So why the downvote? Mushy controls, plain and simple. It's just not tight enough in its collision boxes for me to reliably know when I'm going to miss. "Yeah but you only played .3 hours, what do you know?" you might ask. Normally I'd say that's a fair comment, but in this case, I mean, I did the duels, the adventure (twice) and the arcade; I saw the core gameplay. If the core gameplay gets a great deal tighter later on, then I stand by my review, but for a different reason--why on earth do that to a new player? Either way, a game like this, I need to feel like I understand at a tactile level why I was or wasn't hit, and I just don't with this one.
I like cabal shooter games, not a genre with a great may games. I enjoyed this the style of it is 80s arcade and nicely balanced arcade action playability . its not difficult to finish on the default setting however its fun enough for me to want to jump back in and keep playing for a while longer, grab afew more achievements etc. I am using the xbox 360 pad that works well. On the default difficulty setting at least, i am just holding down fire constantly and rolling alot. There seems to be alot of invincibility frames so not getting hit is quite easy.
Awesome game. Reminds me of old C-64/Amiga days when developers made weird niche games that clearly don't follow any normal framework on how a game is supposed to look like and instead go their own way. This one is a 1-4 players turn based wonky 'mini-games on a map' kind of galore that is very much worth it's price even when there are some annoying bugs. e.g. sometimes a AI player on the map gets stuck=fixed by reloading. or if you have your Steam chat window open then it can loose focus to it=close it. Small annoyances that have not been patched but are still not bad enough to sour the overall good experience. Word of caution: Negative reviews concentrate on controls and for good reason: game has wonky controls. some levels require you to use WASD or cursor keys and fire forward with C or back with X and others are such that you need the mouse to aim. Or use gamepad for all of the things and suffer from generally worse aim in certain minigames so pick your poison. None of the controls are really good and they cannot be changed. But if you learn to live with this then you got here a nice niche gem for quick game sessions that is something different to waste 15 minutes on.
Love the aesthetic and the cowboy settings but making aiming and movement tied to the left stick and both moving at different speeds is just not good to control at all. Almost immediately I wanted to stop. If it was like an arcade shooter or smth it wouldve worked. Best option wouldve been to make it a twin stick shooter.
For the Arcades classics lovers. Back to the 90's. Controls could be better. Perhaps playing with mouse and keyboard is better than pad. Arcade mode is recommended to start since Adventure mode it having a sort of turn per turn phase with a 1 shot per player which does not help to get used to the controls. Overall the game is fast paced. It is rich enough in environments and details. Full price is probably a bit high. 5$ should be enough. You will most probably not spend hours on it.
