GunBird

I guess there was another version of this game that was previously available on Steam, but it got removed due to ending licensing rights. Or something. I can't compare this to that version since I never played it, or the console versions. If you've never played this game, just get this. Even if you're terrible at shooters, this game has 7 difficulty levels, and the easiest difficulty setting should make the game beatable for most people. This game has a checkpoint system in this version, sending you back to the start of a stage when you run out of credits, but between how short the stages are and how easy some of the settings are, this shouldn't be an issue. If you're already familiar with the arcade version and wondering if this is worth getting, it doesn't have extra contents like art, and there are only a few quality of life features, like 3 screen filters, wallpapers (TWO of them!), the ability to increase the number of lives to 9 and the number of credits to unlimited. That's it. There's also voice acting in the game, which I don't think was in the arcade version.

I had always slept on this but I saw a video about this game and it inspired me to get this because this is my SHMUP jam right here (to the extent of it even :P) The biggest draw to me is that it's basically the perfect blend of oldschool gameplay and bullet hell, i love the coin scoring mechanic and also the dynamic difficulty, so far this is what I look for from a SHMUP so im already loving it something i find myself needing to get used to is the random first handful of stages, i have no idea why this is other than a "keep it earning in the arcade for longer" but it's kinda wild, still its not TOO annoying the sound is great, perfect punchy arcadey sounds and great voices, the music is great too, it's not exactly banger after banger but this is definitely upper-tier for SHMUP stuff the graphics are amazing, i love the character designs and spritework and level design, and it is vibrant without being too busy, something that i sometimes have problems with SHMUPS with so kudos to Psikyo for getting past that the story is great, what you would expect from an arcade game story, i've been advised that there's some controversial elements to the games story but honestly it's par for the course for Japanese media of this time and I think the handful of Youtubers upset by it protest a bit much anyway i have short playtime on this review but im going to go fix that because this is definitely a game I like, i would say grab it on sale if you can because $10 is a bit much for a SHMUP

Mid af, both character designs and gameplay are super generic. The only real selling point is probably the promo art pandering to literally every kink? Not even surprising though, considering how JP bullet hells are always tied to gacha/gambling. [hr][/hr] [h3]Reviews: 3/10[/h3]

Thanks to the developers and the publisher, I was able to finish my collection. The game was great. I especially liked the villain trio. They were hilarious and likeable. hahaha 😄 The port was good too. I would say flawless but I’m not really conversant in this matter. All I know is that there were no glitches or anything like that.

1회차 // 1945를 이어 슈팅게임의 선두주자. 1945보다 게임성은 낮지만 캐릭터매력은 더 나았다. 파워업 시스템이 시간이 지나면 저절로 다운그레이드되는 부분은 재미를 반감시켰다. 평점 : ★★★ 2회차 // 한글어 추가에 메뉴만 한글일줄 알았는데 대사자막까지 한글이다. (감동) 명작 1945와 라이벌이라 불려도 될정도의 슈팅게임 하지만 차별점은 확실히 많다. 호불호 영역이라 뭐가 낫다할순 없지만 파워업 아이템이 많이 나온다. 하지만 최대파워 미사일은 조금 시간이 지나면 한단계 위력이 떨어진다. 난이도가 1945에 비해 확실히 낮다. 적으로 나오는 캐릭터들도 매력이 넘치고 캐릭터마다 엔딩이2개씩 존재해서 1945에 비해 좀 더 즐길거리들이 많은편이다. 캐릭터 밸런스가 크게 좋지는 않은편. 평가 : ★★★

If you want a beginner Psikyo game, or really a beginner shmup in general, start with this. It's easy - you can get the 1-ALL on your first go if you're not a complete newcomer - but not so much that you won't get the rush of dodging bullets, and without as much dead air as Samurai Ace.
