About
Four years after the previous title “GUNBIRD,” a new, even more powerful quintet arrives.
In addition to the “Level-Based Charge Shot Attack” that proved its worth in STRIKERS II,
a new attack system using the third button, “Close Combat,” makes its debut!
Furthermore, the familiar bonus item that “sparksleeks for 2000 points” now features
a “CHAIN System” for high scores through consecutive shots!
Of course, Marion and the three goofballs are back in action.
The range of fun expands even further as “GUNBIRD 2” takes flight!!
The new character designs are handled by
Masato Natsumoto,
who brought the wonderful world of GUNBIRD to life in its comic adaptation.
A new GUNBIRD world is born.

It! Works! On! Steam Deck! Why can't I vote that in!?/sticker Phantom Float
예전에 몇시간씩 했었는데 나이가 들어서 다시해도 재밌어요 명작은 시간이 지나도 명작인거 같네요
Charming and difficult. 7 different difficulty settings and 2 different endings for each character offer plenty of replay value. I can't be bothered with emulators so it's nice to be able to access classics like Gunbird 2 on Steam.

Thank you for putting this game again. I was able to finish my collection thanks to the team. The port is good. There were no typical port problems. The game was good too, but there were some degradation choices made. They excluded the voice acting. And the villains themselves were just generic. It’s as if they were toned down versions of the trio from the first game. Hahaha thinking about them makes me smile again. 😄

Best Psikyo game imo. If you got into shmups via other developers and want a change of pace, this is really good. It's somewhere between bullet hell and older shmups, with faster bullets and more honest bullet sprites but also more dense bullet patterns and extremely finely-tuned bullet visibility (moreso than Cave, easily). The key thing to avoid being snowballed is memorising large enemy spawns so you can melee them, but I wouldn't describe the game as memo-first because the clutch dodging aspect is so strong; actually, the memo is of a fairly easy kind - the melee system cleverly subverts traditional routing into a more simplistic affair, and at least on a first loop you will (after a small amount of practice) be focussing entirely on dodging (the fun part, imo) rather than routing. The game confidently straddles the line between chaos and order: it does not feel like you are being overly orchestrated, but at the same time it doesn't feel too random. There's one particularly genius pattern in one of the first stages with a field of turret enemies that have imperfect tracking - they're slow to follow and can only face in fixed directions - so they will fire at weird angles but also, if you get locked down in one spot, they will track to you and fire close enough to you to be dangerous when multiple turrets are shooting. It's such an ingenious pattern that I had to bring it up here. The levels are pretty intense, but they can be routed very easily. The bosses are another matter, and they will fire fast bullet spreads and patterns that are very difficult. You need to hone your reflexes and, for the stage 5 and 6 bosses especially, you might need to practice. This is where this port's lack of a practice mode hurts it although, to be honest, I HATE practice modes; it's too much like homework, y'know? I've never used a practice mode to 1CC a game and I probably never will. And that brings me to the difficulty, which is pretty high. I've 1CC'd to the stage 5 boss, and 3CC'd to the first loop ending. But I can't stop coming back to the game! One of these days, I will 1CC up to stage 6 - almost did just now. This is one of those games that kicks your teeth in, but never stops being fun to play, and I think in large part that's because you NEVER autopilot through this game; you can always die in a moment due to the bullet speed. You are IN the game the whole time. You will never enter a zen state playing this like in Cave games, and that's fine. I really wish Psikyo had continued to exist and release games. I think they could have been on par with Cave. Maybe in an alternate world, Cave would have folded after Dodonpachi and Psikyo would have persisted. There might be remnants of it in, say, Blue Revolver, but very few games look to Psikyo for inspiration. In my opinion, we need more games like this.
