It's a "bit" expensive for what you get.
Updated August 27: DLCs are a waste even at a discount; they add nothing worth it. Notice every one who puts a negative review gets the "JESTER" EMOJI..hmm I wonder who is putting it! Updated June: BEWARE of lies the developers are claiming; they BAN anyone who leaves a negative review. I paid $55+ for the game and some DLCs and left a negative review and they still banned me. Just a horrible group who does not deserve $1 from any of us. *Play the free game now and you will understand why those of us who paid $50-$60 for it were upset; it is barely worth being free! Think to yourself - games do not score 30% positive comments if the problem is the customers vs the game/developers. DLC is a waste - I purchased some! *I knew they would respond. My mind has changed as I played the game - REPLAY VALUE IS HORRIFIC; it seemed good until I played a third time. Then, it was repetitive and boring! I no longer see potential in a game that is so basic and has not been fixed and updated with accordance to what is expected by the price. Avoid this developer/publisher at all costs. $$$ takers; they refuse to allow anyone on the community hubs who disagree with them! This is beyond unfair; if you purchase a product then you HAVE THE RIGHT to post reviews and your opinions - they took that freedom away even after my full purchase. Note of interest* They BANNED anyone who disagreed with their product and then cleared out reviews...I am sure they will respond with a ridiculous reason for the ban like they did for EVERY person who is reporting this. They spew lies; first developer to ban me from a hub in 15 years out of 200+ games I own. They do not want to face the truth - the game is bad and not worth your money and time. I got bored after 9 hours! Check games I gave positive reviews for - some were expensive games, but they were worth it.

Review: Of course the intro is non-skippable. Uhhhh the EA-vibes. Roflcopter... In other news: They just cleansed the forum. All but 3 posts are gone. Guess what the posts where about. Here's mine: - - - - - - - You have been banned from Guardians of Greyrock Community Hub 49,99€ for the base game + 118,23€ for DLCs when the game isn't even out 1 quarter? Are you mad? I don't want these kind of things on this platform. Go to some EA-hosted shop or whatever, but bugger off from Steam. Whatever the reason was I wishlisted this (potential or style or whatever to check back later), you've now guaranteed this goes directly onto the ignore list as well as the publisher :BL3Shrug: (Dev idk, might not be at fault, will not be blacklisted for now.) Don't get me wrong: If you had expenses, that's totally fine. But don't think the community will bend over for your misaligned financials. There's a reason folks like EA/Epic didn't win any ground here. See ya :BL3Thumbsup:
Guardians of Greyrock is a mix of a board and card game, with turned based combat and like most card-based games, a lot of rng. Gameplay You start out at the same point on the board each game, with your party of 3. A Healer, Melee Fighter and Range Archer for Single and Area damage. You are free to explore the board in every direction. When moving around on it, the content of the tiles is hidden and you either encounter a fight or find a chest with the chance of loot. No matter what you do, the game rolls 2 dices which determine the outcome of the situation, in that regard Guardians of Greyrock really feels like playing a tabletop rpg, which I personally really enjoy. But you have to like this mechanic or you won’t enjoy the game as it is. Your Ultimate goal is to Vanquish the Demon as the center of the Board and rescue the Kingdom. Cards & Party Judging on the time I spend with the game, you always start out with the same 3 Heroes. Maybe that changes if you play further. A few more different Classes would have been a nice touch, but even with only 3 Heroes, you have enough tactical depth to make the gameplay absolutely enjoyable. The Card Artwork is well made, sometimes a bit simpler, but it looks fine, I haven’t encountered a card yet with bad artwork. Most important, the stats and different attack options each Card and Hero provides are always clearly visible, well described and easy to access. Pros & Cons +Ton of Options to make the game as easy or hard as you want it to be +Tutorial a bit dry and feels like reading a board game manual, but it explains the game and all mechanics really good. +Great Card design -Only 3 Heroes (from what I can tell) -Only 1 Playing board (from what I can tell) DLC’s I got the game when I was still 30€ and not F2P so I sadly can’t comment on the DLC’s the game now offers since I don’t own them. Final Thoughts I haven’t played a game like Guardians of Greyrock yet. The mix of Board and Card game works out well. The game surely could need a bit more content, but you get enough to have many hours of fun. The fights are fun and have a good amount of tactical depth. Sometimes frustrating when the gods of rng aren’t in your favor but so satisfying when you mange to get that final hit with your last breath when they are on your site. And the game is F2P, so nothing to lose there! The game deserves more attention in my opinion is definitely worth to check out for some rounds :)
FOR MORE REVIEWS ABOUT CARD GAMES, CHECK OUT OUR CURATOR PAGE: CARD GAME KING or TWITTER

What is this game about?
Before commenting why this review is being merciless to a free game (at the time of writing), just know that at release it was sold at 30-40$ which is much higher price point than the current top card games. This review is probably longer than this game deserves, or anyone has the will to read through, so let me just say: Don't bother, it's no more than a lesson in bad game design. The game describes that it's tactical card game with dice. Two thirds of that statement is absolutely wrong. It's 95% dice and RNG hell. You control exactly 3 heroes that never level up or learn new abilities. Each has ONLY 2 abilities and a passive one. The Archer and the Fighter both have the same ability that does the same damage except one is tagged as ranged. You use your primarily ability 99% of the time with the secondary one being very circumstantial You have items, which are additional skills for heroes that offer SOME variety comparing to doing one thing over and over again, BUT they are limited in use. it's baffling as to why a game with so little tactical choice decides to limit the only thing that would increase it. Once used, the items are gone, so you best keep them for hard fights and the boss (good luck beating the final boss without them). There are limited number of loot chest that replenish them but you have 50% of not getting an item, and what you get is also random. The combat is purely RNG with dice rolls happening every time anything happens. No joke - poison, bleed and fire are all pretty much the same status effects for which you have to roll an actual die to determine what damage will they do that run. Why could this not be done in the background? Even your priest that regenerates measly 1 hp (out of 20) per round must roll to see if he would do it. Worse still the game by default pauses after every roll, so you must manually click to continue. I missed the option to disable this as it was in the main menu and not in in-game options. As for the card aspect - there is no deck, no upgrades nor anything else that resembles a card game outside of items, heroes and enemies displayed in card format. Usually at this point I provide a list of positives, neutral and negative points, but there are no positives aside from the single good music track and some great background artwork. Instead, I will just list game design choices that are baffling:
It's baffling
- How this game is labelled as tactical as you mostly pick a single skill 99% of the time and watch dice roll. Typical combat round goes like this - pick skill 1 - enemy rolls evade. They attack - you fail to roll evade they roll dice and miss. Next round you roll, hit, do 4 damage, enemy is at 1 hp. The other two heroes miss and now you must go through the agony of playing one more round. - Why items (extra skills), that could have added some variety in decision making, are limited in use and half of the time you won't even get them from the chest. - That in order to win you have to win a fight with that gives a crystal. It's fully RNG which fights have them and you don't know until after the fight. This means that the vast majority of fights have 0 reward and feel like you just wasted time for nothing. - How can you have any variety when all enemies use the same pool of 4-5 different attacks, sometimes shared with heroes too. - That this game was 30+$ at launch - That it pushed several day 1 DLC.
Conclusion:
Throwing dice at the wall and trying to predict the rolls is more tactical and fun than this game.
Edit: Game is free 2 play now and I can fully recommend it! Also thanks to those giving me free steam points. ;) Save the Kingdom of Greyrock! Guardians of Greyrock is a turn-based fantasy card game. The game offers over 100 unique cards (not counting DLC card packs). Your group consists of 3 heroes (Knight, Monk & Elven Ranger) The goal of the game is to unlock the portal in sunfall vale, and defeat the demons threatening the Kingdom of Greyrock. To unlock the portal you have to collect summoning stones, which are placed on every playthrough randomly on the 50 tokens of the map. Encounters with monsters or loot encounters are also placed randomly on the map each time. Battles are decided by dice, and RNG can be a pain, so plan wisely when using up your cards. You can set up how many summoning stones are needed in total to unlock the portal and how many can be found on the map, as well as other game options, which can make the game easier or more challenging! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2444258449 On a side note: I do really like the artwork of the cards! I can fully recommend the game, even though I am not a huge board games fan. Yes, the price is steep, but it's worth it. Otherwise wait for a sale. I also want to mention that the dice DLC's are purely cosmetics and do not offer any advantages. The card packs offer more and different loot as well as monster encounters
roll dice, roll dice, roll dice, this game offer nothing barely any kind of "strategy" or thing to do And this game was 60$?? hahah f2p now
If you download it you will be spammed with DLC in your suggestions list.
I'm not going to comment on the pricing or the drama around the game but I thought it might be helpful to some to have just a quick review of the actual game. (I bought the main game and expansions at half price.) (As said in a previous review, the dice expansions are purely cosmetic.) i think it's good. (Note: I am very much the target market as I love card games) The artwork is fantastic and overall it seems in good shape development wise. (Though I've only played six hours so far.) I think it's going to be one of those games that I just relax with for about 20 minutes at a time. The mechanics are pretty simple though clever, strangely satisfying and quite different from anything else I have. There may be a question over replayability for some (The core loop itself is not that varied). Though, personally, I think I will be returning to the game quite a bit just to chill out. Also, various parameters can be scaled. So difficulty is to suit. So, a thumbs up from me for the actual game. It's a well made quick break game. The other stuff, surrounding this game, I leave up to you. Finally, this is my first review on Steam and I'm actually being quite selfish. This game suits me well and I'd like to see it develop further. Sneaky huh! TTFN
Guardians of Greyrock is a freemium turn based CCG/cardgame much like Magic: The Gathering or Hearthstone, but oh so nowhere near as good. The cardgame aspects are largely overridden by a badly planned dice rolling RNG method that removes a lot of player agency and skill from the game. Much the same as MTG and Hearthstone, the interface here is so simplistic it could be done in a browser. For that reason it's appropriate the core game is ostensibly free, but there's a bizarre amount of overpriced P2W DLC here. Even though this is free, so are other competing CCGs and they've done a far better job. I can't recommend this against the better, less P2W free competition.
