Excellent story, very good voice acting, the music and sfx are incredible, the art is wonderful. The gameplay is simple but challenging, so I recommend playing with a controller. I highly recommend taking a look at what this study is doing.
I really enjoyed the fantasy-tale graphic style of the game! If you love traditions and culture, then this is your game. It manages to expose Latin American mythologies greatly, while transforming them into a playable tale. Personally, I love the scraps of paper with the story fragments, since you feel like reading while playing. The variety of weapons and spells is a great point of gameplay, since you can explore the game in new ways and enjoy the replay value from each of the stories. I´d love an option that let us choose the difficulty of the game, specially against the bosses. 100% Recommended.
Before I start this review, A very helpful tip if you are already playing this game and stuck
trying to find the 3rd dancing Aya Huma. Before you leave the first area of that stage, stand in the middle of the building right at the end of that area, jump and strike. You'll open the secret area where he's in. Send me a comment if you still can't find it, I'll be happy to help.
Now for the review. This is a perfect example of strong ideas but terrible execution. I want to solely blame it on budget and small team but sadly the design is also very flawed at times that I almost didn't finish the game. Pros: - Great ideas - Nice boss battles - Decent music and art design - Nice costumes and powers to unlock Cons: - Bugs and bugs. Bosses are bugged, normal enemies will suddenly freeze trap you or you'll get stuck on spikes like glue until you die or achievements won't even unlock which happened in my case (I didn't even get the achievement for beating the game or getting the legendary sword which took quite some time to do) - One Key location needed to progress was hidden beyond the imagination of mere mortals and I only found it by chance after a long search. That's unforgivable coz I was almost forced to drop a game I spent so much time on for this. - Sometimes it's not clear what you need in order to complete one of the stories which leads to further frustration. - Any strike or projectile by any enemy can send you to Mars if it touches you like a little ant after an elephant's sneeze. TLDR : Game is not actually bad as a whole, I had some fun here and there but it's bugged and annoying as hell when you die mostly coz the mechanics don't work or your character goes left when you press right or some enemy touches you and you go flying. Honestly, if you reallyyyy want it, get it on discount. Final score : 5/10
Great Indie game! Amazing art and level designs always on point for the traditions of each story. As well as level design and game play (quite challenging). The part that I enjoyed most are the Boss fights as they have an incredible character design that stands up from the rest and they are challenging to beat. Thanks for finding a fun way to maintain the traditions of several Hispanic Cultures and showing the importance of it. Great message for all the world. As overall 9/10, played with a controller
A great game highlighting legends from our region. The game is a little bit on the short side, but I loved the boss battles and the art style. The efforts of the Ecuadorian studio on this game is commendable.
This is an action platformer with some puzzle elements. It's not a traditional metroidvania, because you don't have a contiguous map; however, there are progression elements, and certain items are impossible to reach without revisiting old areas with new abilities. The game is primarily level-based. Each level is a story book that takes place over several screens. Depending on your actions, you can be going through different screens, in a unique take on a choose-your-own -adventure books. Each book contains a story from a different Native culture of Latin America, and your objective is to read the legend ahead of time, and then go through the book, making sure the story does not get re-written and forgotten. Just beating each book's boss does not guarantee a happy ending, but the game does provide hints, and you can run through each book multiple times. Your abilities come in the form of spells- you enter a “casting stance”, and then you need to input a sequence of buttons for each spell. Spells cost Lore to cast, which is your universal currency in the game- you use it to cast spells, buy/sell items, upgrade your spells and repair your equipment. The game's art is gorgeous, and the music is quite nice and fits the tone of each story. The Ideas here are great; The execution is more of a mixed bag. The most obvious is the jump. Your character's jump height and length depends on how long you hold down the jump button. This isn't a bad thing, but it definitely takes some getting used to, and can make the platforming feel floaty and imprecise. The combat is pretty rudimentary, but the enemy's attacks cause knockback, so that's another thing to keep in mind. There can be occasional glitches where the character performs weird jumps halfway across the level; I didn't find these to be much of an issue, though. Difficulty is fair, and some of the late-game equipment is pretty overpowered, which gives the player something to play towards. There are also achievwments for beating bosses with no damage and passing an entire level without dying, so if you want extra challenge content, it's there for some replayability. Overall, the game leaves me with mixed impressions. I wouldn't play this for the platforming, or combat. But the unique storytelling and exploration of the various versions of stories makes this game unique enough to be be worth a purchase.
