She and the Light Bearer

'She and the Light Bearer'는 'mojiken studio'라는 곳에서 만든 인디 게임입니다. 게임은 전형적인 포인트 앤 클릭 어드벤처 게임으로 밤에 칭얼대는 아이들에게 할머니가 해주는 옛날이야기가 주내용입니다. 간단한 액자형 구성이라고 보이지만 이 분량은 시작과 끝에 살짝 나오는 정도로 굉장히 분량이 적어요. 주내용은 어린 반딧불이가 숲의 생명을 관장하는 신 같은 존재 '어머니'를 찾아가는 여정입니다. 제목의 She는 어머니... 그리고 Light Bearer는 반딧불이를 뜻하는 것이겠죠. 어쨌든 어머니를 찾기 위해 숲의 여러 존재가 내주는 수수께끼와 퍼즐, 등의 시련을 반딧불이는 통과해야 합니다. 반딧불이에게는 이런 시험이 어려울지 몰라도 유저에겐 게임의 난이도는 굉장히 쉽습니다. 흔히 포인트 앤 클릭 게임에서 클릭할 물체를 잘 안 보이게 하거나 혼동을 주는데 이 게임은 오히려 클릭할 물체들을 잘 볼 수 있도록 표식을 심어 바로 앞에 제시해 줍니다. 옛날 설화, 전설 이야기, 동화 같은 분위기에 맞게 저연령, 어린이 유저들도 충분히 할 수 있게 난이도의 허들을 낮췄습니다. 그래서 진행에 스트레스를 받는 경우는 없어요. 이야기도 숲의 포식자와 같은 무시무시한 적대하는 존재가 존재하지만 결국 착하디착한 이야기이고 한편으론 결말이 예측되는 무난 무난한 전개를 보여줍니다. 이 게임의 강점은 뭐니 뭐니 해도 아트예요. 동화책의 그림, 일러스트 같은 배경과 캐릭터들이 디자인과 색상 등 아름답게 살아 숨 쉽니다. 거기에 음악과 효과음도 튀지 않고 이런 예쁜 정서를 잘 유지되게 도와줍니다. 개인적으로 동화 스타일의 일러스트에 관심이 있다면 별도로 파는 DLC 아트북과 함께 구입을 추천합니다. 이런 강점 때문인지 세계 여러 유수의 게임 쇼에 초청받아서 인디 게임 아트 부분에 수상도 많이 했습니다. (그중에는 우리나라에서 열린 부산 인디 커넥트(BIC) 페스티벌 행사도 있고, 지스타와 연계되어 전시되기도 했습니다.) 결론을 말하자면 게임은 평범한 포인트 앤 클릭 어드벤처 게임이지만, 아트가 매우 훌륭하고 게임의 난이도도 낮아서 자극은 적은 전래 동화 같은 게임입니다. 어린 저연령대 어린이와도 같이 할 수 있는 게임이에요. 게임 외적인 이야기를 하자면 이 게임의 제작사 'mojiken studio'는 우리에겐 낯설 수 있는 나라인 인도네시아의 게임 회사입니다. 알게 모르게 인디 게임에 인도네시아 제작사 게임이 몇 개 있는데 이 회사 게임이 눈에 띄더군요. 이곳에서 가장 최근 2023년에 나온 게임이 '묶이지 않은 자들을 위한 우주(A Space for the Unbound)'입니다. 졸업을 앞둔 고등학생 커플의 평범하지 않은 기묘한 청춘 이야기를 다룬 게임으로 평가가 무척 좋은 픽셀 그래픽 어드벤처 게임이고 그전에 나온 게 'When The Past Was Around'라는 포인트 앤 클릭 어드벤처 퍼즐 게임입니다. 두 작품 모두 서정적인 이야기와 깔끔한 아트가 강점으로 좋은 평가를 받았는데 두 게임 전에 나온 'She and the Light Bearer'도 그 전조를 보여준 거 같습니다. 몇 번 반복하게 되지만 스토리와 그것을 받쳐주는 아트가 좋은 인디 게임에 관심 있다면 체크해 보시는 것도 좋을 거 같습니다. 참고로 개발과 다른 유통을 맡은 곳은 Toge Productions은 Coffee Talk를 제작한 인도네시아 게임 회사입니다. 이런 다양한 나라의 다양한 게임을 맛볼 수 있는게 인디 게임의 매력같네요. PS1- 이 게임은 데모 버전도 스팀에 같이 올라와 있는데 여기엔 한국어 지원이 되지만, 본편은 한국어 지원이 안됩니다. 영어도 어려운 수준이 아니고 내용도 하다 보면 어느 정도 이해되지만 아무래도 아쉽죠. 아까 언급했듯이 이 게임은 부산 인디 커넥트 페스티벌에 출품되어 아트 부분에서 수상했는데 이 행사에 출품하기 위해 한국어 지원한 데모를 만들지 않았을까... 개인적 추측을 해봅니다. 그래도 이후 나오는 게임들은 한국어 지원이 되니 다행이에요. PS2- 마지막으로 이 게임의 엔딩 크레딧은 아주 인상 깊습니다. 숲의 어머니가 황폐한 숲을 걷는데 그 뒤로 풀과 꽃, 나무들이 자라는 인상적인 연출을 보여줘요. 플레이어는 점프 등의 조작을 할 수 있는데(관련 도전 과제도 있어요) 근래 본 엔딩 크레딧 중 아름다운 느낌으로 기억에 많이 남네요.

[B] Candy for your eyes, torture for your poor ears! [/B] She and the Light Bearer is absolutely gorgeous. It's like a fairytale picture book brought to life. The art is wonderful, and the folk-inspired soundtrack is pretty soothing too. But WOW, the character "voices" are super friggen annoying. There’s no real voice acting, just squeaky noises in different pitches, and they are so repetitive. They'll drive you insane. Seriously, shut up. lol. Luckily, there’s an option to turn them off, and I did that as soon as I realised it was there. The gameplay is simple point-and-clicky stuff. There's some fetch quests, small puzzles, and plenty of chatting with weird and wonderful woodland characters. The dialogue can drag on a bit, but it’s still a relaxing, short, and sweet little game. It took me 2–3 hours to complete, that's without a guide (I like to play blind for the first play through). The rest was me forgetting to quit Steam while doing other stuff. I’ll have to replay to get a couple of achievements that I missed on the first play through. It's not challenging at all, but perfect if you just want something cozy to play in an afternoon. My advice? Mute the voices!

Крайне простенькое Point & Click приключение с элементами визуальной новеллы. Наивная, но в то же время грустная история о светлячке и её миссии в поисках матери леса. Геймплейно игра расчитана больше на детскую аудиторию, но не мешает ознакомится и взрослому. Яркая графика, приятные и милые анимации, а так же сказочная атмосфера. Голоса персонажей врезаются в память уже через час, так как повторяются и звучат потешно (будите играть поймете о чем я :D). Отдельно отмечу прекрасный эндинг в титрах, очень понравился. Рекомендую!

What a beautiful and short game about being a firefly and finding mother in order to free the forest from the devoures. The music was very catchy and the cast of characters that you do quests for were all silly and unique like gloomy the flower, reed, orchid, mushroom, and potato. I found my favorite part of the game was collecting all the different color snail shells. Just be careful if you are missing a carving for an achievement you have to find them in specific scenes. красивая игра, приятная музыка и графика, присутствует философский посыл в сюжете, есть карточки, последнее выбиваемое достижение (кроме получить все) это просто нечто - вроде несложное, но попотеть придется

The art style is a little different, but I like the style. It also has a good story. For those new to gaming, it's fairly simple and point and click. I do recommend this game.

还不错，画风和文本都很美，小萤火虫真的很可爱，流程两小时，不过我错过了成就，玩的话记得在第三章末尾和第五章快结束存档，方便错过补成就

She and the Lightbearer is a beautiful and unique-looking game that follows up its lovely visuals with solid puzzle gameplay, a unique fairytale story, and doesn't overstay its welcome. I'm not a huge fan of point-and-clicks, which have a tendency to be obtuse and illogical, so I'm happy to report that She and the Lightbearer is a totally smooth and solveable experience. In fact, I think it'd be an excellent game to introduce kids to video games and play along with a child -- it's so storybooklike that it's easy to imagine reading it aloud as a bedtime story. The viuals are unique and striking, it's abstract and angular interpretations of plants and animals lending it a kind of delightful weirdness that I particularly liked. I played with the sound off, for better or worse, so can't comment on the music of voices. I do wish there weren't missable achievements -- it's a weird stress mechanism that seems to run counter to the game's goals. All in all though, a really great buy -- the $9.99 feels a smidge high for the playtime but it's definitely worth it on sale and if you particularly like this type of game could be worth it at full price.

Gorgeous graphics, great story, easy play. What's not to love?
