Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
I like VNs. I thought a VN in VR just made too much sense and was excited about an Alice in Wonderland iteration. However, I had to refund because it had two major problems that I couldn't look past. The big problem is that the text is in the way of the scenery. There's this big block text just blocking your view of what's going on. You have to press X to hide the text so you can enjoy the art. However, if your press A you fast forward all the dialogue, very nice indeed... not. Why couldn't there be bubble texts above the characters? I'm sure it could be done in a way where you could still read the text. Honestly, though, I think the text needs to be narrated. The second problem is the combat. Yes there's combat in this VN. It's super clunky and boring and there's way too much of it. You point and click left or right trigger while stepping left or right to avoid attacks. The first time is okay. The second time is still okay. The third time is okay .... the fourth time is like ... wtf. The fifth time is like ...seriously, this sucks. The sixth time I was like I think I am refunding. So that's what I did. I'm sorry. I don't like to refund games. I don't enjoy it. Maybe this VN in VR is for some, but it just wasn't for me. Way too frustrating to deal with. If game gets updated and they fix the above issues then I would like to repurchase and continue the story. The artwork was top notch. It seemed like the writing was poetic and maybe the story is interesting. I'll never know unless game is updated to be an improved experience. Rate 4/10. I hope somebody improves on this formula.

That's definitely true first visual novel in VR! I didn’t even expect, that VN is even possible to exist in such format. First of all – dat’s really VN, which mixed beautiful arts and 3D environment, which changes day of time and weather in realtime. By the other hand – it’s in-game sound, that makes you dive into a story, which’s getting darker and darker… Cool art style and I noticed that you can get through the storyline, playing from view of the two different girls – Alice and another one hero(Dark “Alice”?). So, the storyline is going different according their point of view. Very addictive game, and it’d not so stressful as all these VR shooters and other action games. So I think I’ll spend a lot of hours in this strange atmospheric world. The only disadvantage is that I get tired if I use VR for a long time, and the story is so complex, that I still didn’t figured out what actually happened, but I hope it will get clearer as I proceed further. Devs are even made the whole plot in a poetic way and add battles, so, seems we’ve got here kind of a new standard for VN in VR-format! Great work, team!
It's basically the VR version of reading a pop up book, a VN that misses the mark with huge text boxes that get in the way, boring gameplay and terrible combat with a step left or right while clicking cutting or chopping. Gameplay video: https://youtu.be/Wb3c_9Ya_-Y VN's in VR need to think how they are going to take the reader into something new and exciting, not just be a popup book in VR. Only see real fans of Alice in Wonderland getting into this
After 9+ hours spent in Guard - what can i say.. It's for sure dark story, based on Wonderland lore. If you've read zenescope comics, played AMR or watched 1st Burton movie, prefer such kind of twisted surrealism - you'll enjoy this game. All story is made in a verse, what is very seldom in games even now - I can remember only Child of Light from Ubisoft, also fairytale, but about Aurora (->Sleeping Beauty), but not so dark and twisted. Guard offers to find out, how the things are going on it's real way, behind the adventure, that you see in front of you. All is much more complicated - but I passed thruogh the whole story and beat up true ending. Guys, i'm impressed, don't regret your time - it's worth it.
С детства нравится Алиса в стране чудес. По-этому не мог пройти мимо игры, тем более в VR! )) Красивые персонажи и атмосферные локации, но к сожалению плашка с текстом не особо удачно вписана.
Before I started playing, I had some doubts about the VR and how it’s gonna looks like here. Honestly, I have never encountered such games, because I don’t really understand, how’s possible make strong hard-oriented story games for VR. Nevertheless, the game just dragged on and made me went through and through - yes, it certainly is not an “experience”, not a shooter or a shooting range.. This is more of a brave experiment, which, as for me - success. There is still something to strive for and seek for other decisions (may be new ideas, how to optimize interface?), but the work which’s done is impressive!
In general, I rarely write reviews, but not in this case. Actually, it is the first game in verse that I see - at least for this it is worth to buy. Besides – I really liked how different characters of the Wonderland are drawn. Sometimes they look very unexpected. But not without drawbacks - the interface could be made more convenient, but I believe that developers will listen to the community and correct everything, even in their next games if they are planning to go further with VN in VR. With battles too - did not understand at once, that's why – take an advise – read options and tutorial – for me it was helpful. For now: it’s 4/5 for a new experience and an interesting story in verse.
So, let’s see what we’ve got here.. ✔️ Story in a verse ✔️ Wonderland in VR ✔️ Battles ✔️ Mysterious ✔️ Nice arts Could tell that it’s the best visual interactive novel for VR-platforms, but it seems, that it’s the only one, cause i've no idea, what else can be closer to VN genre and + adapted for VR. Deserved to be recommend to try if you’re ok with Alice, Wonderland, so on..
Recently I played several visual novels, but not in VR until today. In 3D surrounding you are going to walkthrough chapters, reading dialogs and taking part in battles with wonderland creatures. Some of them seems familiar, but it can’t be said about all of them – you’re also going to meet new ones, which… hmm… Looks impressive, sometimes strange, sometimes like from smbds nightmares. The story of this interpretation is much darker, than in typical fairytale or in original «Alice». It’s not obvious for the first time, but be attentive to the details – there are many things and refs u can notice and be impressed. Of course – poems! That’s a great work and no idea, how much time it was spent on it 0__o I’ve no idea where else story was made like this.. For me, it’s one of the most top game advantages. Talking about VR – in my view, it’s the first step to bring v-novel inside of headsets, but hope, that in future we’ll see more such games as «Guard» and even in VR, that genre would get its evolution.
