Guacamelee! 2

Compared to the first: - More difficult (not exceedingly so) - Less of a compelling narrative - Still just as fun I'd absolutely recommend if you liked the first. Played through on an Odin 2 Mini (using GameNative)

Guach II is quite possibly the fastest arena shooter I have ever played. The gunplay is snappy and satisfying, and the bots are incredibly believable to a point I thought I was fighting against real players. The only problem I had with it is that it isn't actually an arena shooter. You play as a fat little boy in his stupid house. I don't want to pretend to love this woman or these kids this fat man likely been layin pipe to make. What the hell Drinkbox. Also, they changed the melody of the song for Pueblucho. Come on man. Why would you do that. Juan's ex-husband, Burrito Bison, is referenced in this game. I find that a neat little bit of worldbuilding, alongside the tear that falls from Juan's eye as he runs past that billboard. It makes you wonder just how deep his relations went with the launch-game-luchador. I know I would have let Mr. Bison hit. In all seriousness: coming from Guacamelee! 1, I think this game was definitely harder (in a good way. I felt like the game was respecting everything I learned from the first game and testing me with the second). The story remains quite paltry, but I personally found it fun, especially with all the small little jokes and secrets that came with the idea. The [spoiler]Tule Tree Tops (Git Gud Timeline)[/spoiler] was a fun nod to part of the first game, but I personally found the "harder" version easier. This game does not change the control scheme in any major way outside of preserving speed out of a certain special move, and I think that even that was a sad thing to change. I noticed that some certain bugs and techniques I personally liked to use are still present in the game. The proprietary engine made in Guacamelee! 1 was only built upon, not remade. You can intuitively transition across games this way! That being said, I do recommend you play the prequel first. For pretty obvious reasons. It's... a sequel.

Gameplay is decent and humor is similar. If you enjoyed the first game, you would enjoy this. It has completely lost the weight behind the story that the original had, but that might just be nostalgia speaking.

Although not much has changed since the 1st game, it was great fun and with great platforming sections, especially towards the end of the game. Highly recommended!

A very innovative platformer/metroidvania, story is fun, loveable characters and the writing is genuinely funny at times! Love it!

Very funny game.

Esta segunda entrega me pareció una gran secuela y, sinceramente, una saga excelente para empezar en el género metroidvania. No castiga demasiado al jugador, su progreso se siente natural y el diseño de niveles es bastante intuitivo, así que explorar y orientarte nunca se vuelve frustrante. Mantiene ese estilo visual colorido inspirado en la cultura mexicana que le da mucha personalidad. Las habilidades están muy bien integradas y hacen que avanzar y descubrir secretos sea bastante satisfactorio. Si buscas entrar al género sin sentirte abrumado, esta saga es una muy buena puerta de entrada. Divertida, accesible y con el suficiente reto como para engancharte sin castigarte de más.

A fantastic sequel and another must-play for Metroidvania fans. The combat feels even better here — flashy, satisfying, and really fun. The world is well-designed, the art style is even more beautiful than in the first game, and the humor and atmosphere are excellent. Once again, there are plenty of secrets and easter eggs. A very polished game that takes around 30 hours to fully complete. Highly recommended.
