I like the game overall, but I do think at present it is too expensive for what it offers. It only has the main line and the Ffarquhar branch, and both of those will need considerable re-working in order to implement key engines that aren't in the base game (Henry, Toby, Donald and Douglas, Daisy et al). This is to say nothing of adding in all the other branches and gauges: the Brendam branch (Edward, BoCo et al), the Little Western (Duck, Oliver et al), the Skarloey line (Skarloey and the other narrow-gauge engines) and the Arlsedale branch (the miniature railway), maybe even the Peel Godred branch and the Mountain railway. It's gonna be a mess to rework the game to incorporate all the timetables for all these characters without them all crashing into each other. I hope that, someday, we'll see a really authentic recreation of Sodor that'll be fun to mess around in, because as it is the game is a beautiful interactive version of what it does have, and the story segments are amusing and pay tribute to classic Railway Series and TV show stories. However, until there's more content (also some more music wouldn't go amiss; we NEED Donald and Douglas' theme in there if they get added), it's a wait-for-a-sale game.
Its a really cool game and concept, but its been almost half a year since release and the promised updates are nowhere to be seen. The only thing we've gotten is a single bug patch, and the game is still a buggy mess. Its fun if you have spare cash and its on discount, but if you're "saving up" for it and there is no discount, then it is not worth the while nor price.
certified autism moment
Had issues with losing missions while in cutscenes because engines continued driving. Having to redo a whole mission over something entirely out of my control is unfair and not enjoyable. Game also has a habit of crashing during cutscenes
Diesel 10 isnt in the game :(
It's hard to explain to somebody that isn't a Thomas fan how enjoyable it is to play a game like this! Some of my earliest memories are of having the stories read to me and watching the series. I was probably around two or three years old when I was introduced to it, and between watching with younger siblings and my own kids I've never really quit. :-) Yes, it's a kid's show, but the earlier episodes still have a lot of charm to them. The game itself is fairly basic, but still a lot of fun. You pretty much drive around a (sadly fairly limited) number of different locomotives around the island and take passengers and freight to their destinations. It's probably too complicated for very young children to play due to somewhat realistic stopping distances and needing to follow signals, but they would have had to pry me away from it when I got to six or seven! There are number of story scenarios to play through, some of which are based on the books and some that are similar stories. They don't take too long, and at less than eight hours I've already completed the base game and James DLC scenarios. I also did a number of the timetables and some free roam to go check out some of the famous locations! Performance was pretty decent on the Steam Deck, and nearly all of my time was spent playing on it. They have a pretty good controller layout, and I was able to hold to 30-40 fps most of the time while still having the graphics reasonably high. I also didn't run into any bugs, and only experienced some minor stuttering and a couple of momentary freezes when looking around quickly. I wasn't pleased that they locked some of the stories and James behind a day 1 DLC, but that's par for the course for the developer. Check out Train Sim World 3's massive list of DLC and the prices for an idea of what we might get here eventually. I understand creating new trains and routes takes time and money, but it gets a little crazy after a while. The very limited group of engines are another big disappointment, presumably so they can be sold as DLC later on. I guess we'll see what happens with that, it's only been a few months since launch. Cloud saves were also missed, especially when switching back and forth between my gaming PC and the Deck. Overall I definitely recommend the game to any fans of the series, especially if it's on sale! The DLC is definitely not worth it at the full $17 price, and even on sale it's still expensive. Probably worth it if you liked the base game though, and it does add some stories with unique features like snow. Watch some gameplay videos if you want to know what to expect!
Una joya de Juegazo G.O.T.Y
A Thomas and Friends train sim is a perfect idea, and I think this game proves my point. The map is somewhat large, and Dovetail is most likely to add on to the existing rail lines, hence the very W.I.P Crock's Scrap Yard. The missions are fun and the timetables are a nice addition. The game also looks beautiful, and the faces on the engines are pretty similar to the CGI series faces. There's lots to do, and the only complaint I have are the shunting challenges. Other than that, it's a pretty nice game. Edit: I have gotten all acheivments for the game, it was pretty fun, all the shunting challenges were pretty nice, except for the Knapford one.
I remember watching Thomas & Friends on tv when I was little. Thank you to my amazing boyfriend Adam Goodwin to get this game for me as a anniversary gift.
