Bad performance (rtx 4090 and FPS in low 20's in mid to late game), Short, BAD balancing (skills dont feel powerfull, worse in late game) and the % increases feel like they are bugged. If you get 80% increased attack speed and still skills feel like they dont get any benefits from it. Same with damage buffs. And WORTS of all. You have to exit the game from the bunker or lose ALL the progress you just made. Learned it the hard way....
Although visually unique and original with some good ideas, falls short to keep me invested. Upgrades are very shallow and short. No boss fights. Only one character. No besitiary or game inventory. No metaprogression. Its missing a lot of qualities that make a good survivors roguelike. Not a bad game but feels like it could be a lot better. Maybe they will continue to work on it but if this is all we get than to me its a bit half baked. Update: After the developer commented to a discussion I started in the games forums he did inform me that there are boss fights and some more progression with each level. I will change my review to a positive since the developer does seem involved and cares about his game. I do think the game is enjoyable and isn't a bad game, but a few things are missing for me.

Super Nintendads approved!! Ground Zero Heroes is instant fun. Seconds to learn, immediately satisfying, and impossibly hard to put down. The animation is awesome, the enemies are genuinely fun to fight, the power-ups feel great, and upgrading your character keeps giving you that “one more run” feeling. There’s enough variety and progression to keep things interesting without ever overcomplicating what makes it fun in the first place. If you like Vampire Survivors-style games, arcade action, ridiculous upgrades and watching your character go from barely surviving to absolutely destroying everything on screen, buy this. Huge bang for your buck. Pure video game fun.
Um gostinho de quero +
Morty, wake up Morty, new survivorlike just dropped and it's fantastic. I'm ground zero RIIIIIICK, Morty. This is a fun roguelite, bullet-heaven title where we play as Todd Howard. After the entire world gets nuked to hell, Todd survives and now with 16 times the radiation poisoning he's trying to explore the wastelands. His special abilities include: summoning a vulture (Bethesda publishing), growing a third leg (which is smarter than his brain) and even shooting lasers from his eyes (X-men copyrights reserved). The game will take you around 10-15 hours to 100% and it's a really good time. While at the beginning it's a little bit too grindy and you barely scrape by, in later stages it becomes easier. Lovely graphics, humor, cool music and original ideas make this a must have for fans of the survivorlike genre. This is the exact opposite of what Todd Howard is currently creating (which is worthless slop). Enjoy the Ground Zero Hero and remember kids: eating rats does not give you superpowers.
Ground Zero Hero takes the increasingly crowded bullet-heaven roguelite formula and gives it a radioactive personality built around mutation, escalating destruction, and constant character evolution. Developed by Rowan Edmondson and published by Acclaim, Inc. and Aurakenn Games, it throws players into a hostile wasteland where surviving enormous groups of mutated enemies is only the beginning. The real attraction is gradually turning the protagonist into an increasingly powerful creature whose abilities can reach ridiculous levels as a run progresses. Rather than making the apocalypse feel relentlessly grim, the game embraces colorful chaos, dark humor, and an exaggerated power fantasy. The core gameplay revolves around fighting large groups of enemies from a top-down perspective while continuously improving the character. Movement and positioning become important as creatures close in from multiple directions, forcing players to find safe paths through increasingly crowded encounters. The early portions of a run can demand caution, but successful progression gradually shifts the balance of power. Once several complementary upgrades and mutations are active, encounters can become spectacular displays of projectiles, abilities, explosions, and enemies disappearing by the dozens. This transition from vulnerable survivor to overwhelming mutant is one of the game's most satisfying qualities. Mutation is what gives the progression system its strongest identity. Destroying enemies contributes to the player's ability to evolve, creating an enjoyable relationship between combat and character growth. Mutations can be combined and stacked, encouraging experimentation rather than forcing every run toward exactly the same build. Finding upgrades that interact effectively can dramatically change how the character handles incoming hordes. With more than 80 upgrades available, there is considerable room to pursue different combinations, whether the goal is greater damage, improved survivability, stronger area control, or a build capable of overwhelming the battlefield through sheer offensive output. Enemy variety helps ensure that the growing arsenal has something meaningful to fight. More than 60 unique enemies appear across the experience, while evolving threats increase the danger as the player survives successive nights. Large enemy counts alone would become repetitive without different behaviors and hazards, so the variety is important for maintaining pressure. The game continually asks players to balance aggressive resource collection against safe positioning, especially when valuable opportunities such as safes appear during already dangerous encounters. Chasing an additional reward can strengthen a run, but doing so at the wrong moment can also result in being surrounded. Different biomes add another dimension to the survival challenge. Environmental hazards mean players cannot focus exclusively on enemy movement, and adapting to each location becomes part of surviving longer runs. These changing environments also provide useful visual variety, preventing repeated attempts from feeling as though they are taking place on an identical battlefield. The colorful and somewhat psychedelic presentation works particularly well with the radioactive premise. Instead of pursuing realistic post-apocalyptic misery, the visual direction complements the game's deliberately excessive approach to mutation and combat. Replayability is further strengthened by its challenge structure. There are 60 challenges alongside a large collection of achievements, giving completion-focused players specific objectives beyond merely surviving another run. Endless Mode is especially appropriate for the game's progression philosophy. Once players discover an effective combination of mutations and upgrades, Endless Mode gives them somewhere to push that build against continuously increasing opposition. It transforms character optimization into a test of endurance and creates opportunities to see just how far an unusually powerful combination can be taken. The experience is not likely to appeal equally to everyone. Repetition is fundamental to the roguelite structure, and much of the entertainment comes from restarting, experimenting with another build, and gradually understanding which combinations work best. Players who require substantial narrative development or handcrafted linear progression may find the repeated combat cycle less engaging. Later encounters can also become extremely busy, with enemies and visual effects occupying much of the screen. Fans of bullet-heaven games will probably consider this chaos part of the attraction, while players who prefer slower and more methodical action may find it visually demanding. Its progression can occasionally make particularly successful builds feel overwhelmingly strong, but that imbalance is also part of the intended fantasy. The game wants players to discover combinations that seem almost unreasonable and then throw increasingly dangerous hordes at them. The tension comes from seeing whether a seemingly unstoppable mutant can continue surviving as enemy numbers and threats escalate. Because different upgrades can alter how that power develops, restarting after defeat feels more like another opportunity to experiment than simply repeating exactly the same sequence. Steam Deck compatibility is a notable advantage. The game is officially Steam Deck Verified, with its core functionality working through the handheld's controls and its interface remaining usable on the smaller display. Controller prompts and general navigation are appropriately supported, while the game can run using settings suitable for the device. Its viewpoint and methodical pacing also translate naturally to portable play, although demanding visual settings can still make sensible performance adjustments worthwhile for players prioritizing battery life or consistent performance. Overall, Ground Zero Hero delivers an energetic interpretation of the bullet-heaven roguelite concept. The combination of enemy harvesting, mutations, numerous upgrades, varied creatures, environmental hazards, challenges, and Endless Mode creates a progression loop with considerable replay potential. Its strongest moments come when several carefully chosen improvements suddenly transform an ordinary run into an absurd display of destructive power. The radioactive setting and humorous presentation give that mechanical escalation enough character to stand apart from more conventional survival experiences. For players who enjoy experimenting with builds, fighting enormous crowds, and watching modest abilities develop into screen-filling destruction, there is plenty to appreciate. It understands that the pleasure of this genre comes not merely from surviving but from becoming powerful enough to make the approaching horde regret showing up in the first place. Rating: 8/10

Very fun and addictive game. But I feel like it lacks a variety of upgrades and mutators. You can unlock everything in about 2 hours, and after that, each run and build starts to feel the same.
