GROOD * 7/10
Remember Metal Slug? Good. Now GROOD is a scrolling shooter, way more difficult and modern in different ways. Featuring some very Heavy Metal music. And some minor bugs/glitches.
INTRO & GAMEPLAY. What is GROOD about And How does it work?
I don't see much sense in telling the story. Machines invades earth, you build a ship called GROOD and get out blowing up enemies. Pointless as it is in metal slug. Grood is about its gameplay and even more about its difficulty. Environment is constantly scrolling, the screen slowly fills with enemies and you can shoot everything down with your moving ship. Obviously they shoot missiles, lasers and bullets as well, in good quantities but that's not all the difficulty. Weather changes, the sun goes down and by night you barely see with your lights, not to mention ships explosions cause dark smoke that cover everything so you won't see enemies or missiles or any other junk it might hit you and damage you, while few powerups and weapons will drop in few places. It might seem too difficult. Unfair. Even cheap. But it is right as the purpose is to give a very difficult challenge at all costs. The difficulty selection at the beginning where you can choose between "Hard", "Hard" and "Hard" is the best way the developer states this.
GRAPHIC. Engine And Artistic aspects.
GROOD runs on Unity. It doesn't shine for models and textures for the simple reason it has been purposedly designed with simple colors and cel shading to follow the old games cartoonish style. But in opposition to these classic traits we can easily notice many light effects, blurs, reflections, particle effects to give a more modern touch. Very appreciated, personally speaking.
SOUNDTRACK. Themes and Accompaniments.
And here's one of the strongest AND weakest points of the game besides its gameplay. Heavy metal music. As a metalhead I can only praise and appreciate the badass soundtrack, while I blame the developer for not including an OST pack in steam. But why do I consider this one of its strongest and weakest points? Because when you use a specific genre you inevitably end by polarizing your audience. You like it or you love it, so while I enjoy it a lot, someone else might end up hating it because listens to many other different or opposites generes or for many other reasons.
LAST NOTES. What doesn't work?
Few problems here and there. Let's proceed with a logical order. For some odd reason it takes 3 minutes to start GROOD in my laptop (specs at the bottom). It stays idle with a dark green screen and that circle that replaced the good old hourglass. Then it loads. This is nonsense and had me worried. At first I thought I was experiencing some compatibility issue with my mobile GPU, or maybe just a bug, so I ended task multiple times, tried compatibility modes and so on. Then right before writing to support I tried to let the exe stay idle to count the time it takes to load, then it finally started, and after multiple attempts I realized it just takes a lot of time. Before you ask, my only Hard Drive is an SSD and GROOD is the only game that does this. After that I got into the main menu. I know I don't have an extreme gaming rig, but I find rather absurd that it gives a big drop in frame rate barely reaching 20 FPS, while ingame runs smooth as ever. And now about the game. Everything runs the way it's meant to be, of course, but keys can't be customized. For a game like this I'd rather use arrows instead of wasd, while keys for different weapons and fire are not close nor intuitive.
TL;DR. Pros And Cons

+++PROs+++

CHALLENGE. GROOD is a hard game for players looking for a challenge, a massive wave of enemies to defeat, a mess to survive.
HEAVY METAL. A great and really heavy soundtrack will pump up your adrenaline as you face the hordes of enemies...

---CONs---

HEAVY METAL. ...Or maybe not. If you don't like Heavy Metal.
OPTIMIZATION. The game requires some minor optimization with the engine as it takes a veeeeery long time to load, appearently has a resource demanding menu and there's no way to customize key bindings.
The game is exactly what you should expect from a classic old school shooter. Its fast, chaotic, colourful and complimented by an awesome heavy metal soundtrack. I grabbed it on sale and it was a steal at the price let alone full price! I recommend this game to anyone who loves arcade indie games and high scores! I will be returning to take the top position on those leader boards! + Fast paced fun + High score leader boards + Awesome heavy metal soundtrack + Smooth controls + Inventive menu system and cool 90's filter available + Tough as nails!
Tremenda jugabilidad y tremenda música.
It's basically a mobile game (jetpack joyride esque) ok I guess. Got bored after not long, but hey, it was only 50c
呃,操作按钮一闪而过,我都没留意,请问下按钮怎么操作的?
Awesome music it fires you up, hardcore gameplay, it's a G(R)OOD product
Grood é uno shoot'em up colorato, immersivo, folle e Metal. Installi, apri il gioco e vai diritto al punto: Distruggiamo le macchine. DIvertente e ottimo passatempo per sfogarsi un pò. Complimenti allo sviluppatore. STRACONSIGLIATO!!
