For the amount of hours I played since I got you would think I like it more. Sadly, too much grind, too little explained, and too little organisation. Now in order 1. Mobs are a pain. Fighting even the simplest mobs takes far too long, and very often they spawn to close and many that you get overwhelmed, because you need to hit mob every once in a while or it will take your hp, but every once in a while is too short so too bad! Oh did I forget that the mobs have rare drops that you need somewhat commonly? How would you get it? No clue. They randomly do that. By randomly I mean like once an hour, sometimes more often. It does not depend on how fast you plant it, how many steps you take, nothing that I could think of. Just again random. But what is even better is that you are not allowed to keep your drops after you reenter the forest!!! You either turn them to compost or use straight away! And then you discover you need it! Love it. If would be fine if they weren't so rare but its fine, managable. You do get a way to store them, but you don't get a lot of storage. Mobs are repetitive. More than half is just repeat of the same thing with different skin and a bit different power. I understand, and don't. I wish there were more varieties, or more grouping to say that "these are family trees so they are similar" and like, give them more variation in power, it would be so lovely to discover them and maybe "classify" them, idk. Also the fact that to unlock "plot relevant" mobs you need to do all those which make your life difficult is just unfair. Either give power scale so they are not a problem in the future, or like, give option to disable spawning of certain ones? Like I need a new plant for a mission and I need, say, 15, but in all levels max it spawns is 5 times even if I plant everything. So you can only get it by using fridge and doing multiple run. I think I did try then but then it showed that I have 0 of that plant in the fridge, pretty sure it was a bug, but sad either way. Oh and if you run out of mana/hp you lose half of your items! It means half of each item. Which means if you have rare one too bad! No more. 2. Spell system is a wack. Even with spells which supposed to do something, like "stun" or "move" them they don't always do that. I thought it is mob specific, but no. They just randomly don't work at all. I got hurt too many times because of that. They there are somewhat useless spells which then don't affect much, don't plant the mob fast, nothing. There are no special combinations to make them more powerful, no "tree" of spells, nothing to make yourself better. Just. Almost completely random unlocking. Even the power of the spells is not consistent. Sometimes it plants, sometimes it doesn't. Lovely! Then you have bonus power. Do nothing whatsoever. If you get stuff like "these spells more powerful" yeah it does nothing. Good luck. 3. Quests are also a pain! In not a good way. If you need to bring a plant by a name you can't tell which one it is, or how to get it, which biom, if you need to unlock anything before that. Same if somebody requests items and shows you picture. No clue what it is if I don't already have it, neither where to find it or how, or anything. Also why are you only allowed to talk once to a person per forest run?? Why can't I finish quest and immidiatelly request the second one? I think the worst thing for me, on pc, is that VIEWING QUESTS IS A PAIN IN ITS OWN RIGHT. You need to press tab to view them, sounds ok right. But it starts to scroll down after some time.So you try to move it up, which is only possible with mouse going up, so you inadvertently activate your spells, ok, its fine, BUT IT KEEPS ON SCROLLING DOWN BECAUSE YOU ARE STILL PRESSING TAB AND IF YOU STOP IT WILL STOP SHOWING QUESTS. Very annoying. 4. Some other minor annoyances When you are running in the main "garden" passive npc are in the way of the path, they do not move and you cannot run past. You cannot get good at cauldron game. Initial mouse moving feels random more than your skill, whether you move it fast or slow it add approximately the same little. When you do need to click on the mouse the bar moves very randomly and the moving of your heart down is far too slow. One mistake and you are done. For somebody who loves stardew fishing and can do the rarest fish without mods, this one is just no fun. Main character is not a very smart cookie. It is okay but it does get a bit on the nerves sometimes. Skipping explanations of some items is a bit annoying, especially when I accidentally press explain again. Can it just be done with esc please? Its just. Eh. Some explanation are not very clear either. which is ok but yeah. Also, the pause music is nonexistent, just beat which gets pretty annoying after a while. ! On the positive, the artstyle is so so so pretty, all of the scenaries and forests, and background things, and (ignoring the repetativness) the mobs too! If there was merch I would get it, it is just some of the loveliest things I've seen. The fact that forests and many spells resemble mushrooms is so wonderful and definitely makes you feel like you are in a world of cozy witchy magic! Honestly just this makes the game worth playing even for a bit. Very lovely
I honestly loved this game. It was super cute and relaxing but still managed to be challenging which I appreciated! It is a neat spin on a Rogue Lite and I had a lot of fun playing through the game and getting all the achievements. I seriously feel like this game is so under-rated for the amount of enjoyment I got from it. What I Loved:

The artwork and story of this game are absolutely adorable.
I liked the concept of watering all the plants to get their seeds and things instead of having to fight them and thought it was a cute touch. (Also the plants "hugging" you is both frustrating but also an adorable addition.)
It has a relaxing mode and there is no penalty for switching back and forth between it and the normal mode. I particularly appreciated this towards the end of the game when the plants got a bit harder to water. I would switch modes depending on what I was trying to accomplish.
The game is still challenging even with Relaxing mode on. The only real benefit is you don't take damage from "attacks" on relaxing mode. I found this especially useful for figuring out which spells I wanted to use. You can still run out of energy if you fail to water the plants fast enough or get too far away, but it goes down a lot slower.
There's 4 general areas for the forest, one for each element (earth, air, fire, and water), the more plants you unlock and more elements you unlock the more challenging it feels.
There's a nice variety of spells to choose from and I liked trying out each one to find the ones that best fit my playstyle and worked well against the variety of plants.
Others might find it tedious or a bit grindy, but I enjoyed the collection quests within the game. It added an extra dimension of challenge as you kind of have to try to plan your route to best fulfill the quests and you don't always end up with all of the components you need in one run (you can unlock some storage later into the game which is extremely helpful for this though.)
The Maybe Not So Great, But Still Fine (At Least To Me)

The game is a smidge buggy at times. A couple examples: there was one time I somehow dashed past the tree-line and got stuck outside the geometry and the final boss glitched for me and froze up when I was trying to figure out what to do and ran out of energy. None of the bugs were game breaking though and were easily fixed by restarting the game. Please note that some of the bugs I encountered were likely because I played with a keyboard and mouse and the game does tell you as soon as you open it that's it's best played with a controller.
At times I did wish for a little more guidance or tutorial on what to do, especially on the boss fights at the end of each level. I figured them all out but it definitely took some trial and error. I suppose this is no different than figuring out how to beat a raid boss in an MMO, but it felt a little odd for something that otherwise felt really cozy.
This game is very color dependent (red for fire, blue for water, yellow for earth, green for air). It you struggle with colors you might struggle a bit with this game. There were a couple areas I personally struggled, but cycling through the different elements until I found the ones that were correct wasn't overly difficult to do and for the plants that require multiple elements, the element sequences were pretty easy to memorize.
Overall I definitely recommend this one and will be keeping my eyes out for future titles from this developer. The concept is cute, but the game doesnt work as a rogue like for me. Everything feels incredibly floaty and it's strangely difficult to tell where the enemy models are physically standing, and there is virtually no visual indications showing they are prepping attacks. I only spent a few minutes in the game but the combat really felt unsatisfying in a frustrating way.
Played just a bit, but came to say that playing on Steam Deck OLED is wonderful so far! The whimsical art style is gorgeous. Really pretty color palette. I’ve seen some Hades//Animal Crossing//Cult of the Lamb references in reviews. As someone who has totaled *hundreds* of hours across all three of those games (on Nintendo Switch), I’d put this squarely in the “magical girl” Cult-of-the-Lamb-type category so far. Roguelite runs, rescuing plantlings, and you return from runs to build a sentient garden. Hella cute cozy vibes, and they managed to come up with a really creative way to make combat non-violent. :) With the saturation of the cozy games market, it’s difficult to find something that feels really new and fresh, but so far, I feel like Grimoire Groves has nailed that. Feels like it was created by a team that has a lot of fun thinking outside of the box.
I've been playing almost non-stop for the past few days. I love it, and I find it highly addictive. I like roguelites, and I like cozy games so this game is like a perfect hybrid. It is a bit confusing in the beginning, especially with how the stamina works. However, once I got the hang of it, it's a lot of fun.
This game inspired me to throw glitter on the plants in my wife's garden to make them grow strong and happy. Long story short, the plants are all dead and we're now divorced. Highly recommend!
Hades but cuter!
