About
A story-driven RPG inspired by classic JRPGs, featuring a unique fast-paced turn-based combat system built around timing, combos, and survival without traditional healing.
Follow Saragat and his allies as they become entangled in a web of conspiracies surrounding The Core — a shadow organization manipulating world events from behind the scenes. As nations edge closer to war and powerful factions begin hunting Saragat, an even greater ancient threat stirs beneath the surface
Act 1 delivers a focused 10-hour narrative experience packed with strategic combat, genuine character interactions, and a world shaped by decades of lore.

No Traditional Healing
The refined Focus System replaces standard healing mechanics, creating tense and strategic encounters where momentum and defense matter.
Active Timing Offense & Defense

Burst Combo System
Build combo chains with your party to increase overall damage and unleash devastating directional Burst finishers.
Real-Time Duels & Training
Grow stronger through 1v1 duels and training encounters rather than repetitive grinding.
Crest Customization System
Replace traditional equipment with spiritual Crests that define each character’s combat role, strengths, and weaknesses.
Real-Time Airship Battles
Take control during aerial combat sequences that punctuate key moments in the story.
Fully Voiced Cast
Experience the journey with a complete professional English voice cast.
Classic Overworld Exploration
Travel across a traditional JRPG-inspired overworld filled with secrets, encounters, and story events.
Post-Game Challenge Dungeon
Face difficult endgame content that will continue expanding post-launch ahead of Act 2.
Saragat’s life is thrown into chaos when he becomes a target of The Core, a hidden organization operating behind governments, militaries, and global conflicts. Pursued by multiple factions and caught between rising superpowers, he and his allies uncover secrets tied to an approaching catastrophe that threatens the entire world.
Combat in Granser revolves around managing Focus, exploiting enemy weaknesses, and maintaining offensive pressure rather than relying on traditional healing loops.
Use active timing mechanics to strengthen attacks, defend against incoming blows, and perfectly parry enemies to create openings. Build party-wide combo chains to maximize damage output and gather Burst energy for devastating finisher attacks.
Character progression avoids traditional grinding. Permanent stat increases, abilities, and growth come from duels, training, and world interactions.
The Crest System allows deep customization without conventional gear systems, enabling players to shape party members into specialized combat role
Granser is the culmination of over two decades of worldbuilding and development by solo developer Steve Gal, creator of the Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity series.
Originally conceived as a comic project before evolving into games, Granser continues the wider universe established through the five-game Skautfold saga:
Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity
Skautfold: Usurper
Skautfold: Into the Fray
Skautfold: Moonless Knight
Skautfold: Knight's End
Developed solo without crowdfunding, Granser: Act 1 marks the beginning of a larger ongoing story.

Reviews
I have played all the games the Dev has made and all of them have been amazing, and this one is no exception. I love the turn based combat and the focus mechanic is really cool. The lore and story so far have been phenomenal and i can't wait for the rest of the game to be finished.
Seems solid, especially for the price. The voice acting was pretty surprising, you don’t see it often in Indie games. Need to play a bit more before I can say more but certainly a good first impression.
I'm still very early into Granser, but I wanted to leave a review to help give the game some visibility and hopefully some constructive feedback on how it can be even better. This is a special indie RPG in what has become a saturated genre in indie games. Pros + This is a game made by devs who really, really know their stuff when it comes to RPGs. I have been playing RPGs for 20+ years at this point and I can tell that this developer has dug a bit deeper than Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, with a... + Unique battle system! This is a really cool, timeline-based battle system that integrates advantageous, stacking status effects with reaction-based, Shadow Hearts-esque timing minigames. For RPG aficionados, experiencing this is worth the cost of admission by itself. + Impressive presentation! The visual style is really unique, eschewing a 16-bit look for prerendered, intentionally janky sprites reminiscent of a Nokia N-Gage game (in a good way). These are with married with impressive character portraits and surprisingly impressive voice acting, although the voice acting appears to only be for select lines. Now, a few areas I'd like to see the developer work on: - Despite the battles being enjoyable, the UI isn't clear enough. The status effect indicators on the characters can, when making a quick glance, be mistaken for the turn indicator, which has led to me not using the right move at the right time. - I did unfortunately also encounter a few glitches (or annoyances?) in the battles - namely, the timing minigame for pending attacks will still trigger even after the last enemy is killed, and the timing minigame for pre-cast spells will play automatically once that turn starts, making it very easy to miss and accidentally fail. - After a recent patch (unsure which one) I started having some framerate dips and short freezes when starting the game from a loaded save. These thankfully went away after a minute or two. - There continue to be a few minor spelling and grammatical typos that pop up. Overall, I'm really excited to continue to see where this game goes as the developer continues to push out some post-launch fixes. At its very reasonable cost of entry it's definitely worth checking out if you're into more esoteric RPGs and want an indie RPG that tries something new.
Granser is a great game, but it really is a JRPG game for JRPG fans. The most obvious and consistent influence is Xenogears. There are also shades of Shadow Hearts, Silent Hill 2, Legend of Dragoon, and Skies of Arcadia. The battle system is based on the classic Paper Mario Games, and a lot of the map design and tone reminds me of Shadow Hearts as well. The music and visuals both are excellent, and I wish that the soundtrack were available on YouTube to be listened to or purchased. The visuals are also great! They are honestly very reminiscent of Signalis, being a blend of 2d isometric spaces and 3d character models. All of the animations are high quality, and the dueling minigame stands out as a highlight as well. As far as the writing goes, I think it is strong overall, but with a few drawbacks. The writing is very dense, and while it is high quality, there is a lot of encyclopedic lore and background information that the game chooses to convey. It is almost dense to the level of Xenogears: Perfect Works, which I personally love. However, some of the writing might be so dense it can turn people off. I also think that the voice performances can vary a bit in quality. Its not a deal breaker to me, and a lot of the dialogue itself is good, Overall, I really recommend this game! Its not perfect, but it is a game made with love and all of the pieces for the next two acts are here. The game also has a clear roadmap and the developer is open to feedback and improvements. Go buy the game!
This is a review of my first impressions of the game So far the game feels really fun to play, the turn based mechanics feel fun and unique, the story is intriguing me and making me want to continue on with this journey to see what's going to happen and the artstlye of this game just looks absolutely lovely I'm looking forward to continuing on playing this game and if I change my mind about it I'll make sure to update this review
Great art direction an story. Give it a shot!
5 hours in, refreshing combat concept, having a blast.
UPDATE: After beating Act 1 I'd say it's a pretty great game and sets things up well for Act 2! The pacing was well done and the combat is pretty addictive and strategic. The only part of the game that I would say was a little janky is the ship combat, but everything else was great and I look forward to the next installment! So far it's pretty fun! Really does seem like a love letter to old school jrpgs. Complete with: Cutscenes/FMV sequences Turn Based Combat (with QTE timings and parries, almost like Clair Obscur and Legend of Dragoon) A story where you feel there's plenty of lore surrounding the world waiting for you to discover And it even has voice acting for quite a bit of dialogue Would definitely recommend.
I had my eye on this title for a while, and I must say I’m very satisfied with it. The stylistic choice gives the game a unique identity, the audio design is solid with a great OST, the voice actors do a wonderful job, and the plot is engaging. It's a great game that clearly aims to recreate the spirit of old-school JRPGs.
