The main reason I'm saying "No" to recommending this game is because Steam doesn't have a "Dear mother of god, no FU%@&!G way in hell" option to choose. -The "relaxed mode" is nowhere near relaxed and no options to tweak it. This is the first time i've been told something was relaxing, yet by the time I was done with it, wanted to drill a hole in my head. I'm pretty sure this game being tagged as "casual" is just an inside joke from the developers to see how many people will fall for it. -Every level is the same tedious thing, just a different shape outline for the map (oh sweet! this level is in the shape of a "+" and the last looked a "T"! -The RNG in this game, absolutely, had to have designed to work against you. You will literally spend 10 minutes making matches and hoping the game drops just the right piece, in just the right spot, to clear one corner block......Only to have wasted so much time that you now have to start the level over. -Converting resources is a time consuming pain in the ass and even then..... -Upgrades don't do crap, they just barely balance out the more and more frustration the game piles on each level -When several people voiced issues with the game, the developers just disappeared and left the game as is. I could go on but keep in mind that I have over 300 games on steam, over several years and this is the first time I felt I needed to leave a review.......
In the end, I never met my grandma. I wonder how she looks like. I wish that I will like this game. I like match 3 games but match 3 game is no longer fun if requires so much effort to play it. Maybe I'm lazy or maybe I'm not good in exploring places but every level took me almost or more than an hour to finish it. Also, it will be better if they allow the player to put in the number of resources to convert to coins. I have 8000++ woods and stones. If I have to convert them to coins, I have to keep clicking the 'up' arrow until it reaches the number.
This game is extremely simple and bare-bones. The content you see in the first hour is the scope and scale of the whole game. Normally, I'd say this is fine. I like a repetitive game to play every now and then. The problems arise with the game-breaking bugs in this game. 10 hours in, the game crashed while I was exiting a level and the game refused to launch afterwards until I uninstalled and completely removed the save from my game files. 10 hours of repetitive game progress was lost in a single instance which is unacceptable.
About forty minutes in, and this game has everything I want in casual game play. At the core it is basically a match three game, but with some pleasant bells and whistles. Upgrades, a small town to build up, and a fun silly little story with some decent voice acting. The graphics are nice, and while there isn't much in the way of animation, it is decent too. Controls are simple, but work cleanly. The music fits the theme and is atmospheric and pleasant. I am only playing it on the easy level right now, but there is a lantern mechanism which I get the impression which can make things a bit more difficult. I find myself drawn in, and the urge to go down into the mines one more time can be strong! Easy to recommend... ADDENDUM: Okay, sixteen hours in, and I find it is getting boring well before the end. I am on level twelve and I have done everything I can with the stone and wood I mine, and I have a ton of cash but I can't buy anything else without these macguffin amulets, and nothing left to buy looks interesting anyway. It doesn't help that the puzzles have gotten so complex all I do now is spend my time earning clues. Eight more levels to go I think, and I don't think I'll finish it. Still a thumbs up, sixteen hours of fun was good, but it has really turned to flavorless mush...
A great addition to the Runefall genre of games. I have spent many hours playing Runefall 1 and 2 and find them to be the best relaxing, casual games that you can pick up and play at any time. SpelunKing continues this with more great gameplay, story and graphics that will satisfy your craving in this cool match 3 genre. Great job Playcademy / GC Games ! I hope you continue releasing more titles like these in the future.
Spelunking The Mine Match weaves around the exploration of a grandparents mine. The game unfolds as you delve into the mine's depths fr 25 levels, uncovering the history left behind by their grandfather which is a very unimaginative bunch of odd items he's lost in the mines throughout the years. 100% achievements was very easily managed. Overall, the storyline of "Spelunking The Mine Match" serves as a simple force behind the gameplay. This game is basically a copy of Runefall Match 3
A fun match 3 game with enough of a twist to make it interesting and no IAP to ruin the fun. So far it's quite enjoyable, it's match 3 on a multi-screen map. You kind of pull yourself around by making matches on a side of the screen. As you go you encounter the typical match 3 obstacles (ice blocks and so forth). It's interesting because if you get stuck somewhere you could move to another part of the map (there's also a teleport ability). You have to make specific matches to keep your lantern filled as well, and there are puzzle rooms (with generous hints if you get stuck). You can slowly upgrade the town. It's not going to set the gaming world on fire but it's nice when you have an itch for some match-3 and you don't want to deal with being bothered buying coins or keys or whatever with real money. Buy the game, play the game. Sad that this seems miraculous these days! Fun game!
