Back in the days this kind of games used to be a freeware on the internet, now they litter Steam Store making more difficult to find valuable indie production. The game doesn't look compelling at all in the first place: cell-shading graphics resemble more plastic Army Men game than anything with shading. Even tough the was a clear 'no; to me, I got the game for free so I decided to give it a try. God's Trigger is a cheap, plastic version of Hotline Miami, with this difference HM's plot was mysterious and in GT it has absolutely no sense. We are supposed to be God's angels fighting demons to prevent the upcoming premature apocalypse, but in the game you fight against criminals and drug dealers, both sides using convectional weapons. Two main characters can use special abilities, like invisibility or mind control, and that's probably what makes them divine. Speaking of which, only one character is truly playable - a guy with a sword is definitely the most and only useful selection to take, picking a woman feels like playing a higher difficulty mode. Playing solo makes no sense - maybe you can switch characters in the game, but you only switch to the woman when you need the teleport ability; and then playing in co-op is no sense, because only one player is truly walking through the game and the other one plays as an idle support. Personally I had a serious issue about the balance, because I ended up in the situation where no one wanted to pick a chick. Before I go into fights, I've got to say a little bit about maps. They might be plastic, but at least they are clear and there's no bigger problems with finding hidden collectables (magazines with hot girls on front pages) as long as you can find the way. Lots of items can be smashed into pieces giving extra xp and ammo replenish. Encounters with enemies are very similar to Hotline Miami, but way much less brutal. The game allows pick up enemy weapons to hold as a secondary one until it gets out of ammo, you can stun enemies with doors, stealth kill them, execute them while they're stunned, blow them with mines or use exploding red barrels. Pain the the butt are the boss fights; they are split between few stages and every of them brings a surprise. If you don't know what is upcoming next stage, you're likely to die and repeat the fight until you remember all the boss's moves across the sequences. Totally not fun, requires no skill, it's more of a memory puzzle than arcade challenge. The only 'good' thing the creators perfectly understood how bad the game is and they added lots of checkpoints between fights within same map, so you don't have to swear time after time about something totally random killing you. The game is bad even on a so basic level as controls. Apparently the devs never played on PC or they only played NES / PS, because the whole keyboard setting has to be changed for intuitive play. There's more to go with the above, but this game doesn't deserve any more time, even if it's for writing a negative review. Edit: The in the co-op is massively bugged. Both players often see different state of a trap (active/inactive), impossibility of restarting checkpoint/game, some bugs happen solo as well, but it's rather rare.

Polskie Hotline Miami. Dobra robota Techland!
If you ever played Hotline Miami and thought, "This is great, but what if it was a co-op angel and demon power fantasy?" then God's Trigger is your answer. This is a brutally satisfying, top-down shooter that's all about speed, precision, and creating a masterpiece of carnage. The comparison to Hotline Miami is a huge compliment—it has that same "plan, execute, die, retry" loop, but with its own identity thanks to the two distinct characters and their upgradable abilities. I played the entire game on my Steam Deck OLED, and it's a flawless experience. The game being installed on a Micro SD card, it ran perfectly on SteamOS. The fast-paced action feels fantastic on the handheld, and it's an ideal game for quick sessions. The core gameplay of switching between Harry and Judy (or playing with a friend in co-op) is a blast. Mixing and matching their powers to clear rooms in seconds never gets old. In short: A fantastic, violent, and fast-paced action game that feels right at home on the Steam Deck. Highly recommended for action junkies.

This is the type of game I would expect to see on XboxLive Arcade in like 2012. It's... fine. It doesn't have the momentum of Hotline Miami. nor does it have the story. Nor the complexity. Nor the soul. I'm not a fella who's DYING to play Hotline Miami clones with shallow level-up mechanics. But it's inoffensive and short, so if you get it for free (or got it in Humble Choice), it's not an entire waste of time.
⭐ “Fast, Brutal and Stylish — One of the Most Underrated Top-Down Action Games” 🇺🇸 English

🎮 Introduction God's Trigger hooked me within the first few minutes. At first it looks like a straightforward top-down action game, but once the combat clicks, it becomes an addictive mix of speed, precision and controlled chaos. It feels somewhat similar to classic fast-paced arcade shooters, but with its own identity and strong focus on aggressive tactical gameplay. 🔥 Gameplay The combat is easily the strongest part of the game. Every character has unique abilities, and the game constantly encourages creative and efficient kills. You can go in guns blazing, set traps, chain abilities together or improvise when things go wrong. The pacing is relentless. One small mistake can get you killed instantly, but it rarely feels unfair. The game rewards fast reactions, positioning and quick decision-making. Co-op mode is also fantastic and makes the chaotic encounters even more enjoyable. What I really liked is how the arenas are designed around experimentation. There’s almost always a faster, cleaner or more stylish way to clear a room. 🎨 Graphics & Audio The visual style mixes stylized violence with a clean isometric perspective that keeps the action readable even during intense fights. Explosions, blood effects and special abilities all have solid visual impact. The soundtrack fits the gameplay perfectly. It keeps the adrenaline high during combat and complements the fast pacing extremely well. Performance was also very smooth with quick loading times and responsive controls. ⚖️ Difficulty & Progression This game can be brutal at times. Some levels require multiple attempts, especially when stronger enemy combinations start appearing. Still, progression feels rewarding because you can clearly notice your own improvement as a player. Unlockable abilities help diversify combat without making the game too easy. The challenge stays consistent until the end. 🧩 Fun & Replayability The gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying. Entering a room, failing, retrying and eventually pulling off a perfect run feels rewarding every single time. The campaign is not very long, but replayability is strong thanks to score chasing, experimenting with strategies and co-op sessions. ✅ Final Verdict If you enjoy fast-paced, skill-based action games, God's Trigger is absolutely worth playing. It’s one of those underrated titles that deserved far more attention for how polished and fun its combat system actually is. ⭐ Recommended for fans of brutal arcade action, co-op gameplay and high-speed combat.
