short and relatively easy platformer/shmup in a strange but beautiful alien world, accompanied by fantastic (licensed) music and a disappointing ending. not that anybody would be playing this for the story. I say relatively easy but I had to take an extended break at some point, got stuck on a level, went back later and could continue. there's some sort of rating system, I ignored that, so going for gold might require more effort. then again, if you're better-versed in the genre (I pretty much never play this sort of thing), it might be a cakewalk. there's a demo to try if you're uncertain. too bad the dev went in a lazy roguelite direction with cryptark, then decided to waste the player's time in wytchwood (mandatory inventory drop on death is always a colossal mistake), so they're one of the many indie one-hit wonders as far as I'm concerned.
It's an okay platformer if you can get it very cheap (~1€). I don't have hours logged because I played offline, but I did get bored with it after one evening and I never run it again. That said, if you're a fan of platformers, it might be alright for you, but buy only on deep discount.

Its an ok action platformer. Pick it up on sale.
Muito bom!
It's surprisingly fun and deserves to be remembered even after all these years! PROS: + INCREDIBLE mobility and feeling of momentum thanks to the hook and rocket jumps + Picking up massive objects and throwing them feels satisfying when taking out enemies + Graphics good enough to not make you realize this was 2011 + Unique weaponry, each with two firing modes + Does an impressive job with story considering the lack of dialogue + Genuinely difficult if you want it to be CONS: - Controls can take a moment to get used to what every button does - By default only goes up to 1920x1080 - Not enough good music - I swear every secret is just you going through a wall that looks like it is there, but is not Really fun game! I almost wish it could get a remaster or an update after all these years lol
Its a Sci-Fi Metroid-esque, nice side scroller with a survival twist. The Soundtrack is just well, its what got me into this game. Beat it once on a windows low end pc (win 8/10) and going for it again on a steamdeck. Keeping it at native 1280x720 is fine with minimal clipping. Sound works fine. Its playable and thats what counts. Its a comfy game to me. Once you've completed stages with enough stars your able to play survival and arcade modes. Cool lil gem of a game. Its best played with Keyboard and Mouse yet still somewhat playable with a controller. Hope this helps, Game on!
Capsized, developed and published by Alientrap, is a 2D action-platformer that blends physics-driven movement, shooting mechanics, and environmental problem-solving into a tightly interwoven experience. Set on a hostile alien world after a crash landing, the game wastes little time on exposition and instead throws players directly into a survival scenario where exploration and adaptability are key. It is a game that prioritizes mechanical engagement over narrative, offering a challenging and often intense journey that revolves around mastering its systems rather than following a story. The most striking element of Capsized is how it handles movement. Instead of relying on traditional platforming controls, the game introduces a jetpack and a gravity-based grappling tool that fundamentally change how players navigate the environment. Movement becomes a constant balancing act—managing thrust, momentum, and positioning while avoiding hazards and enemies. This creates a dynamic flow where traversal feels fluid but never effortless. At first, the controls can feel awkward or overly sensitive, but with time, they reveal a deeper level of precision that rewards practice. Once mastered, moving through the environment becomes one of the most satisfying aspects of the game. Combat is closely tied to this movement system, often taking place mid-air or across uneven terrain where positioning is just as important as firepower. Players have access to a variety of futuristic weapons, each suited to different situations, and learning when to switch between them becomes part of the overall strategy. Encounters are rarely static, as enemies approach from multiple directions and environmental hazards add an extra layer of pressure. The game does not separate combat from exploration; instead, it blends the two, forcing players to think and react simultaneously. This combination keeps the gameplay engaging but also contributes to its difficulty, as mistakes can quickly become overwhelming. Level design plays a significant role in maintaining this balance. Each stage is relatively large and encourages exploration, with multiple paths, hidden areas, and optional objectives scattered throughout. While progression is generally linear, the openness of individual levels gives players room to experiment and approach challenges in different ways. This design choice adds replay value and reinforces the sense of being stranded in an unfamiliar world. At the same time, the increasing complexity of later levels ensures that the challenge continues to escalate, demanding greater control and awareness from the player. Visually, Capsized stands out with its detailed, hand-drawn art style. The alien environments are dense with strange plant life, layered backgrounds, and subtle animations that bring the world to life. This richness enhances immersion but can occasionally make it harder to distinguish important elements during fast-paced moments. The soundtrack complements the visuals with atmospheric compositions that shift between calm exploration and tense combat, reinforcing the game’s tone without overpowering it. One of the more divisive aspects of Capsized is its learning curve. The combination of physics-based movement, combat mechanics, and environmental interaction can feel overwhelming at first, and the game offers limited guidance in easing players into these systems. Early frustration is not uncommon, particularly for those expecting more traditional platforming controls. However, for players willing to invest time into understanding the mechanics, the experience becomes significantly more rewarding. The sense of improvement—going from struggling with basic movement to navigating complex scenarios with confidence—is one of the game’s strongest appeals. In addition to its main campaign, Capsized includes extra modes that extend its lifespan, such as survival challenges and time-based objectives. These modes provide alternative ways to engage with the mechanics, focusing on skill and efficiency rather than progression. While they add variety, the core appeal of the game remains tied to the campaign experience, which is where the balance of exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving is most effectively realized. Ultimately, Capsized is a game that stands out for its ambition and its willingness to challenge players. It offers a unique blend of mechanics that, while initially difficult to grasp, come together into a cohesive and rewarding experience. Its demanding nature and occasional lack of accessibility may limit its appeal, but for those who embrace its systems, it delivers a memorable and engaging journey. It is a game that asks for patience and persistence, and in return, provides a satisfying sense of mastery. Rating: 8/10
