Another game where I should have listened to the reviews. Dull gameplay, glitchy and buggy... and it appears the devs have gotten butt-hurt over the fact their game isn't doing well, so instead of fixing/updating it... they abandoned ship. Thankfully I was able to refund it. The fact the devs are charging $25 for this is ridiculous. Save your money and buy one of the other 100-500 games on your wishlist. You'll get more enjoyment out of them.
A abandoned game, too many bugs, game play loop is not that interesting. Dont buy unless its on a massive sale.
The art style and music are great but the game is poorly thought out. It is extremely grindy. You'll have to fight pointless fights over and over again, only to finally face an "interesting" fight where you realize your build can't beat it because the boss cancels your specialization. To level up your lair, you need an astronomical amount of gold and souls, which means you can't complete the entire route in one go; you'll have to "farm" levels to accumulate loot. This wouldn't be a problem if the fights were fun or automatic. But here, you'll be repeating the same clicks and the same actions against the same enemies over and over again until any residual fun disappears, giving way to deep boredom. Lesson for devs : Turn-based battles are only good when each one offers something new each time, because they're long and slow. This is absolutely not compatible with repetitive combat (unlike real-time action games, where the action is fun even if repetitive, up to a point). Developers really need to understand that : Turn-based = New in every fight, absolutely zero repetitiveness. I'd like to finish this game to see everything it has to offer, but I'm way too lazy, I'm not having enough fun, it's too boring.
Fantastic Idea Great Art Interesting Novel Mechanics Amazing Voicework Cute Story Tons Of Potential However Tons of bugs, way too grindy, mechanics that don't make sense, restrictions for certain things for no reason, and overall it just feels unfinished. I really want to love this game, and have put a decent amount of hours into it, but there are just so many better choices for whatever it is you're looking for out of this game at a way cheaper price point.
It is a fun game but the constant 'saving' does not seem to always work which can result in the loss of hours of progress. Especially when encountering the "?" events things tend to stop the game saving after encountering it. People with similar experiences fell free to comment .
The game is very good, way longer than I first expected. I give it a solid 7.5/10 TL;DR The game is Good. Great story, decent combat. However, it is slightly too grindy for the average person and the post-game content is just you playing the whole 100 hour game again with a slight difficulty tweak. Pros: - The story is decent and is fully narrated. The narrator deserves an award ngl - The game is really long for how much it costs, you get way more milage of this game compared to many bigger titles - I like how abilities combo with each other - you can create your ultimate party of 6 by making your own goblins - Goblins are disposable, which makes you not feel as bad when they die Cons: - The game is unoptimized, the whole game tries on run of a single CPU core which makes it run slow even if you have a decent PC - The game has quite a few bugs, none of which are game-breaking, but they're annoying to get. A post-release batch would have really helped this game - Encounters get repetitive, at some point of the game I was getting the same encounter 2 or 3 times / excursion - It is somewhat grindy, but I don't mind that level of grind - Many genes are just better versions of earlier genes, which make entire generations of goblins obsolete. - Materials are too hard to get, why can't I buy them? - Gold is mostly useless, as you can't buy good weapons with it nor can you buy a good amount of materials with it, the most you can buy of any material is like 3. and you don't get always get offered the materials you need - You can't enchant your weapons outside of excursions, which makes no sense. This could have been an easy way to make gold useful Nitpicks: - The game has grey, green, and blue weapons, which implies the existence of purple and gold weapons. but there is no such thing. - After the final fight of the story, your base gets deleted and you're forced to start over with the new game +, I would have preferred to have a "free roaming" mode where I could replay earlier bosses. - Merchants seem to never sell blue weapons, which means the only way to get them is through the "hard mode" of the excursions, which is too grindy for a weapon that is only slightly stronger than the one I have - You can't take gold with you to the excursions, which means if you find a blacksmith early you're out of luck - Backtracking is almost never usable because the map has too many forks. I can count on one hand how many times I got any use out of backtracking - after a certain point in the game, enemies stop getting surprised for some reason.
I'm glad that I didn't let the shaky reviews scare me away from this one. It's essentially a light hearted Darkest Dungeon with X-COM base building and some really creative breeding mechanics. It gets somewhat grindy, but the music and narration are a big plus. It's a very solid roguelite, well worth playing!
I can't recommend this game. The game attempts to couch the action as a narrative, but by about five hours in I was ready to strangle the narrate for commenting yet again on how good a survivors my dead little goblins are. The art style is cutesy and fun. This will be a draw to some, but it quickly annoyed me as the internal logic of the world is totally incoherent. If you like this sort of game, go get darkest dungeon (the first one, not the second one) and play it instead, maybe with some mods. Finally, any bugs this game has are probably here to stay. The devs seem to be done with it and there is no further updates, announcements, plans, or bug fixes coming out as of over 6 months ago.
