Strategy is actually paper thin (thinner than Paper Mario and pun intended), and crawling is mostly uninteresting straight lines. I gave it a few hours but it doesn't appear to have the depth I wanted.
What a fun, cute DRPG! I played an hour so far and was able to clear the first level, defeat a couple of bosses, learn some skills and play with attack, defense, pierce, and a few other types of dice. For a small indie team, this is a great game that isn't too difficult (compared to those hardcore DRPGs) and has a cute art style and good music (catchy normal encounter theme). The map design is good, and elevation was used very well in some of the exploration segments. The dialogue reminds me of Paper Mario with a similar font and the cute expressions from the paper characters, and I enjoyed how seamless the tutorials were (definitely more streamlined than my own title). It costs less than a meal out and looks like there's a bunch more content to explore based on what I have managed to experience in the first hour of focused play, so why not give this great DRPG a try?
I love this game! I just rolled credits after 31 hours. The dice mechanic is pretty fun. I personally like the cartoony aesthetic and chill vibe, though sometimes the battles are challenging and you can just get as far as you get until you've levelled up or get some new gear. There's a lot of content here for the price, if you liked Potato Flowers in Full Bloom or cartoony dungeon crawlers, buy this immediately.
cute goblin game! will need to come back and finish the rest of it of
It starts out as a cozy, almost casual dice-building dungeon crawler with cute goblins and a quest to solve. But then, almost without you noticing it, the game changes and becomes really quite hard and you have to think about what hand of dice battle with and what skills you should slot to even stand a chance. Each encounter becomes tense, some foes much worse than others, starting to sneak around and being scared. I really enjoyed the game for the exporing, the intricate levels, the battles with the bonuses (at one time I got 6 D20 bonus dice in a single roll). On top of that a very engaging story with and last and aqually least, but not at all least, Gobby, the goblin.
Fun casual dungeon RPG with a solo character. There is zero penalty for dying- you respawn at last campfire while keeping everything. Enemies are visible on the field and stay dead until you rest at a campfire. You can easily level up by farming respawns. Combat plays out like Yahtzee meets DnD. Equipment has different hit dice, but you get combat bonuses for rolling specific values or combos. E.g., you can bring a flask of poison that heals a large amount when you roll an 8, 9, and 10. As you progress, you find equipment with more dice and higher damage variability. Leveling up unlocks abilities for manipulating the dice, e.g., cut the dice value in half and trade it for a different action type. Suppose you're fishing for a combo that triggers a bunch of extra attacks when you roll a low defense roll- you could turn one of your attacks into a block and confirm the combo. The game's main combat hook is stacking the deck in your favor. I felt like a god when I stumbled on a set of piercing weaponry that all get bonus attacks when I roll a specific number. Another wrinkle: enemies get reactions based on your dice rolls, too. Bosses might rage and get a huge attack bonus if your damage numbers get too high. Or they might take a chunk of flat damage if you roll their unlucky number. Sometimes it's all hands on deck, just preventing the nuke. Some of the later bosses can be quite tricky. Leveling up doesn't make a huge difference at this point, although you can farm more skill points. Best option is usually to reasses your gear and pay attention to the boss' reactions. If the boss penalizes high sword attack rolls, you might switch to a different attack type.
