Glover is a puzzle-intensive adventure game made up of 6 worlds with 30 different levels. You control a charismatic glove that walks on two fingers, slaps harder than Steve Austin, dribbles faster than Scottie Pippen, and plays with a bouncy rubber ball.

I am going to be as fair as possible with this review as I am one of the rare human beings on this planet that grew up with the N64 version of Glover, beat it several times and still defend that it wasn't THAT bad of a game. This version of the game, is THAT bad of a game. Sure, it's playable start to finish with no MAJOR glitches or bugs happening, the most gamebreaking problem I had with my playthrough of this when it first released was the achievements just popped whenever they felt like it, it didn't matter if I actually met the conditions to earn it. I have no idea if that's even fixed in this current patch, but I sincerely doubt it. The reason I waited to make this review was because there's always been a disclaimer that PIKO is aware there are still bugs in this game, and I waited 3 years to see if they'd ever fix any of them. There was a patch yesterday that fixed some things, I can tell you right now, I don't notice a difference from how this port originally launched compared to now. Sound Effects are completely broken, you either get the intended Sound Effect sped up to be 500% faster than what it's supposed to be or the wrong effect entirely. The visuals are just... bad. If you want to experience the infamously flawed 1998 hit Glover even more flawed. Buy this, but don't get it for $20, that's insane. You can go to any thrift store in America and walk out with 2 copies of the game for 5 bucks. Yes I'm autistic.
I know what I'm talking about, I mean look at me, I have a Glover profile picture. When this port released and for a few months, it was an absolute mess. Issues: 1. Almost all audio cut in half 2. Missing textures 3. Achievements weren't even named properly 4. Moves like Glover's fist slam didn't work as an AOE 5. Part of the intro cutscene audio plays when you collect all the garibs in a stage??? Yeah weird 6. Enemies texture stays even after they are killed 7. Checkpoints just did not work on the pause menu 8. Inputing cheats caused the buttons on the screen to glitch Maybe there's more but that's all I can think of at the top of my head. There is a way to increase the frame rate instead of being locked at 20 but doing so will cause major problems such as getting stuck on what seems like literal nothing, popping out of platforms that lead you to the exit of the stage (you are stuck if this happens), and moving too fast at times (even if it's kinda fun). To be fair, they did warn you, but I just wish they would make it work with a higher frame rate. AS OF JULY On April 23rd they released a patch that honestly fixed A LOT of the problems but to put it simply, all we need is to fix the audio, and maybe hopefully PLEASE let us play with higher frames. If we could get that, I would honestly say this is the best way to play Glover, but until then, it still needs some work. P.S. $20 is an insane price my guy...it should be like $10 or something.
Pros: Includes a N64 ROM for emulation, which is (unfortunately) still the best way to play. *Unlike the awful Piko Logo intro in the port, they just did away with the startup animation altogether. Literally the only point to buy this, is a legal way to obtain a ROM. The port (even though improvements have been made from the initial release) is inferior in all ways. -Missing texture filtering for 2D elements -The shading and lighting in the N64 version wasn't carried over, making the game look rather dull -SFX and music reverb missing -Running the game above 15fps causes issues -Why are the stitches missing from Cross-Stitch's face Just emulate the N64 version and tweak the graphics settings. It will look and feel a lot better than this port. There's no way to get around the 15fps unfortunately. Hoping a recompilation of the game gets done one day. It's a shame this didn't get the care it deserves, since the game has potential and is definitely charming. 😕
Firstly, I really like Glover!
Though, this port doesn't come without its flaws. I may be more inclined to discuss said flaws later, but for now I'm leaving a negative review for the following reason:
The Pirates' Cove bonus stage is consistently crashing on both my Steam Deck and PC.
I didn't reach this crash until about 5.5h of play. That stage crashing means I cannot collect everything, which is contradictory to this game's design. To my knowledge, you can skip the bonus stage and jump straight to the next world, but I'm not satisfied with the idea of paying for content but being unable to experience it. On top of that, I'm not interested in pouring more time in to this game if there's a possibility that another level will crash 2 hours on from this one. I can forgive the odd crash, but when it's one that consistently hinders progress with no documented workarounds, it's just unfair to the consumer. I really enjoy the experimental vision behind Glover's design, so I'm really bummed that this port isn't exactly playable in its entirety. If it weren't for this big flaw, I'd argue this port is tolerable on sale. I'm leaving this review to signal boost the issue since I can't find anybody else discussing it. If someone can help resolve the crash, I'll change my review to positive..! Got it for nostalgia reasons. It's just as bad as I remembered
I think they should have given Glover a 5th finger.
I made a friend draw nsfw of Glover and it got denied by R34
cause bread tastes better than key
I absolutely adore Glover. It transports me back to my dad’s house during the summer of the early 2000s when I first played it on the N64. However, as a child, the castle and the eerie laughter always terrified me, so I never fully experienced it. As an adult, I had it on my Steam backlog and decided to finally give it a try. This is an incredibly enjoyable platformer/collectathon. It’s quite different from other games because you’re essentially controlling two entities: Glover and the ball. If you don’t mind old, clunky games, I would highly recommend this one. It only maxes at around 20 FPS, but you can change the frame rate in the file settings. However, I wouldn’t recommend it because the game will crash from time to time. I only experienced crashing in the prehistoric realm, specifically levels one and three. Other than that, there were no problems whatsoever. I wish this title supported Steam Cloud saves because it would be a perfect game to play on Steam Deck. Overall, I definitely recommend it. It’s an easy game to 100% and only takes about 15 hours, maybe less. That’s around what it took me to finish!
Pain.
