Finally, a very playable and fun version! I had previously purchased and refunded the game twice, because of poor controls making the game unplayable and frustrating. This recent update, with the extremely fun and easy head control, makes the hang gliding experience both realistic and enjoyable as well. I played for over two hours straight without crashing, and stopped just to write this review to congratulate the developers for making a great game. I would pay the full price willingly, and with the discount, it's a no brainer to purchase this gem. I hope there will be more maps (even as dlc) in future, because this hang gliding experience, in VR, is almost as good as the real thing, without crashing and breaking bones! A strong buy recommendation!
Of my 70+ Vive games, this is my second favorite, next only to Smashbox Arena. I have always loved flying games, especially gliding ones, but this one makes you feel like you're actually on the mountain! The complaint of 2 of the 3 negative reviews was that the movement was controlled by the head. This was changed months ago, and you now control it by moving your hands, just like on a real hang glider. This is more natural, and lets you look around at the scenery. Several of my friends and family and tried it, and they have all enjoyed it. The graphics are clean and polished, and it's well worth the $10. I'll never forget the first time I stepped off the ramp at the top of Glider Island and dove down the mountain. It was such a rush! Most or all of the other glider-like flying VR games are arcade style, and just move you at a constant speed. This one feels like the real thing.
My father was an avid hang glider and made me buy this. Even though it's not a simulator, game is fun and put a smile on his face. Had some fun myself, the hand controllers setup is intuitive and enjoyable. Better than expected.
1st Impressions Video with Commentary // Oculus Rift + Touch // GTX 1060 (6GB): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NmvCVbo6cw My Quick Thoughts: A cool relaxing experience, if you are new to VR and looking for something to try that gives you the sensation of flight and height, give this a try.
This is a great game. If you want something that's a nice relaxing flight, this is your game. There is a time limit on each island, but they all seem like plenty of time, once you get to know where all the "courses" are. There aren't any real "courses". Simply trails of hoops to fly through. It's up to you how you navigate. It does become a challenge to fly through a row of hoops when a storm or vocano blows your way. But those are spaced-out enough that it's very enjoyable.
One of my favorite vr games I've played so far... no motion sickeness at all, very good graphics. For $8, absolutely worth it. Edit: I don't know what update changed the flying mechanics (with no way to toggle back to the old mode), but this game totally sucks now. I used to have a great time doing barrel rolls and just generally enjoying flying around and now you can't even tilt your glider to the left and right... totally boring now. I would not recommend anyone buy this game at this point in time NOTE: Dev said they are pushing update to address this at the beginning of February, after the flight mode is addressed this game is still 10/10 for the price.
I just tried this out for half price. I would say 5$ is much more reasonable. Its a relaxing experience none the less. Enjoyable to fly around and collect hoops. Although I wish there was more to the gameplay. The Vive hand controller method was a little tricky at first. But fun. I actually enjoyed the head controls more... Its easier and more relaxing. I am interested in seeing the newer version, Overall I feel this developer has potential.
One of my favorite VR games to play. I really like the immersive touch based hang-gliding experience.
I've just finished my first hour playing Glider Island and I enjoyed it a lot, improving my scores with each flight. On the whole it runs smoothly and is immersive. It's a fun game and I'd recommend it to anyone - I'll be playing it again tomorrow - and it's very reasonably priced too, I only paid £5.59 and I'd be just as happy if I'd paid twice or even three times that! It needs a little tweaking here and there but the Dev appears to be supporting it well and I'm sure it'll just get better and better as time passes. I'm glad I bought it, it's my favourite VR flight sim/game to date.
♥♥♥♥ yeah! Game is simple, casual and very much fun. Especially if you're into flying :)
