Relaxing, easy-to-play game. Nice if you just want to sit back and chill. Plenty of gamemodes, rather interesting concept overall.
There is something with those blocks that makes you love each game that have them the game is not that hard, but you have to anticipate to prevent creating leftover holes that u cannot fill anymore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDzQgOnBR6Q
I'll be honest: My interest in this game is based purely on the soundtrack by HOME. I also happen to love the occasional puzzler. Long story short? The most talented of artists don't always sign off their music to quality products Matris' gameplay could be best described as... the painters version of Tetris? Although I'd more say it was the Duplo or Mega Bloks of Tetris games, but even with that comparison, I think in some ways that's giving this game more credit than it deserves, as it would justify why it was made. Matris lacks that certain raison d'être, both in design and its gameplay. You kind of just stick puzzle pieces into place, and that's really it. None of the other game modes take it in an interesting direction either, as you lack that reason to care about your placement like in real Tetris when you fear your blocks touching the top of the screen. You have all day, really, and you could think out your moves precisely, and that's just not exciting. Classic puzzle games like Tetris or Columns are about a constant assault on the player. How will you deal with what the game throws your way next? Matris (like a mattress, as in, the game will put you to sleep because it's so boring) isn't interested in asking you that question. I don't even think it's even that interested in itself with its colorless, grey and plain design. Yes I know I can customize it myself, but it says a lot when not even the designers thought fit to make the presentation eye catching for people that you know, might REFUND the game, cause you could get everything you need within five minutes. The soundtrack by HOME, while great, just doesn't fit. The gameplay is too slow. Even in time attack - where you're given a way too generous (I'd actually call it laborious) 10 minute limit - never do I ever feel compelled to race the clock. It'd be like if Jeopardy had the Duke Nukem theme playing throughout the entirety of the show. Does it make Jeopardy more exciting? No. It'd still be the same old sassy molassy Trebek askin' questions. HOME's music deserves a better home in a moderately faster paced game. The game reeks of mobile phone game design, where if you give the game your undivided attention, you get nothing in return, because it's just not that taxing to play. It needed something to drive the gameplay, but maybe like myself, the devs were too excited about licensed music and not the actual content of the game. The Pro's
+Great soundtrack regardless of the game +Good customization
The Con's
-Boring. Flat out boring -Dull color scheme you have to fix yourself -HOME's soundtrack goes to waste
I do highly recommend checking out the Columns clone, Anode. It will definitely scratch your itch if you're looking for a puzzle game. It has the tight gameplay and the killer soundtrack to back it.
Definitely worth playing! It's The game is really relaxing, you can easily chill out playing it after work. yet it can be really challenging. The game mechanics are simple but fun and there are many diverse game modes so you will not get bored. I really like this game and so will you.
I would say that it's a nice game which is fairly relaxing, plays wonderful with controller (thanks dev for fixing the needed stuff) and has a really nice music. as I already quickly noted when I got the game and had a few problems with my DS4, the dev was nice and fixed stuff quickly.
And just when I thought that there ain't no puzzle game/arcade game that could teach the old dog some new tricks... Matris is a dynamic puzzle game that bears resemblance to Lumines and Tetris. The player task is to fill the map/matrix with tretromino-like blocks, provided by the AI. What sounds easy to learn, seems difficult to master - and that learning curve is the main motor for neverending fun of Matris. Lots of different modifications and built-in level editor asures the player that no matter how much he'd play, there's still an awful lot to discover. Definitely recomended for all Lumines and Tetris enthusiasts, but also everybody that likes to challenge themselves!
Nice soundtrack, nice gameplay. Just play it for couple of minutes and chill.
✓ Very nice presentation ✓ Decent soundtracks ✓ Pleasant game mechanics ✓ GNU/Linux support! (beta testing, not advertised yet, look through the Steam discussions) Haven't had time to play it enough yet, but judging from the little I've seen already the game looks pretty good. It also runs very well in Linux on low end hardware.
Matris is really relaxing experience. With great music and Puzzle Mode it delivers a Zen-like state of mind. It starts with ease with lazy putting blocks whenever you want and then it gradually begins to making it more difficult to make it really mindbending at the end without ruining your relaxed mood. If you want to exercise your mind under time pressure you can have it in Combo or Time Attack mode. Overall it can relax and exercise whichever you prefer. It's good to have it installed just in case you need one of those.
This isn't a Tetris clone. It uses the familiar Tetris shapes, and it is a jigsaw puzzle without a jigsaw puzzle picture. You set the blocks to a great soundtrack into the field. This is actually more difficult, than it sounds, because a gold medal awaits only the one filling up every free spot. The game has different modes and workshop support, so if you like this kind of filling up a board puzzles, you have plenty of hours to do so. Well coded, great soundtrack, different modes that are quite well thought through, I recommend it. Price is ok.
