About
Ghost on the Shore is a story exploration game about emotional ties that transcend even death.
You play as Riley, a young woman who finds herself stranded on a desolate island with a headstrong ghost, dead for as long as he can remember.
As you explore the crumbling homes of the vanished islanders and discover their belongings, you get to know the ghost Josh. As you make irrevocable choices in dialogue you shape the bond with him, which ultimately influences the outcome of the game.
As Riley puts it all together, she comes to understand how an island's history has led to Josh' death.
You explore the beautiful scenery of The Rogue Islands on foot. As you do, you talk to Josh about the history of the islands, his memories, his feelings, but also about Riley’s dreams and goals, and why she’s running from her old life.
As a team, you and Josh discover the old islanders’ belongings and uncover the stories behind them. Which creates a specific sense of what life was like on these islands before people started leaving.
A unique feature that allows the player to make choices in a subtle immersive way. You don't always know how your words will affect the other. Words are powerful tools. Just like in real life, things can become fun, exciting or plain awkward.
Every dialogue option is shown only once, which makes your choices definite.
The relationship you choose to build with the ghost defines the narrative branch you get to explore. There are four branches with a different ending for each.

Walking sim with a decent, if bland, story. Voiceover became erratic and disappeared after the first 20 minutes, though subtitles meant it stayed playable up until the climax of the game at which point my game locked up and left me unable to load my save file.
I want to say the bad things right of the bat: You have to at least play foru times through to see all the endings. and this only if you manage to choose the right answers in the end. This took me way to long and was sadly really annoying. But apart from that its a really nice game. Its lovely and verny nicely made. The style is really cool and the story pretty nice too. Its not that hard to figure out a few parts beffore they are revealed and a few things dont really make sense, but its still a really nice game. It is a nice game, a bit too pricey for my taste though. I can still really recommend it.
Beautiful environment, lovely music, interesting characters, and an intriguing mystery unfolding will keep you engaged through the end. However, if you want to see different outcomes (and obtain other achievements) this has to be played in its entirety multiple times, mostly due to dialogue choices. Discovering Josh's story and his relationships with the islanders is interesting stuff, but leaves questions-particularly about his prior "attachments". Despite a lot of character building, there are too many holes. Why now? Why Riley? What else can be said about the others? Were they all of the same "origin", but failed where Riley succeeded? Would Josh have found peace if any of them had been successful in their discoveries? Does any of it even matter? The answers may lie in the alternate endings, but having zero interest in Riley's personality I won't play it again.
It's a cool walking simulator type of game. The narrative is quite compelling and the pacing is good. However, the saving system is a bit odd and it sucks for achievement hunting, so I didn't even bothered.
Enjoyable but brief, though it does offer some replayability for the multiple endings. I would have liked the replayability to be more considered in the game's design - the second time I went around the island I would have liked the option to take a different route, which might have given a different perspective on the story, rather than being funnelled onto the same path again. The visuals are nice and the sound design is really nice, walking by the water in particular is a lovely experience, I might replay this on hot days just to stand and listen to the waterfall again. There is a twist at the end that seems to have zero foreshadowing and no explanation, so it just didn't make sense to me at all and really threw me out of the conclusion of the story, but there are some really nice parts of the story that click really organically and overall the narrative is satisfying and worth playing through.
Now that they've fixed the issues with the missing voice lines, I've finally been able to play this all the way through without issue and I liked it. it's not perfect, there were times when the leads frustrated me and when I felt like I didn't have the breath of options I should, but for the most part I enjoyed it, found it intriguing and I was happy with the ending I got. If you like narrative walking sims it's worth a shot. It's fairly short and sweet.
