A really solid game. Good exploration, good combat, good story. If you're a fan of bioshock or similar games then this is for you
I bought this game a few months back on a sale and decided to finally play it this last week. I wasn't expecting much from it, to be honest, I had watched a few videos from the Quest version but despite the generally favorable reviews I wasn't too convinced about it, it looked a bit like a b-movie so to speak but since it came out for PCVR and it was quite cheap I finally got it. I'm glad to say I was quite wrong about it, it turned out to be an excellent game with great VR mechanics, great controls, fun exploration and puzzles and good combat that gets better the more you play it. It is a very polished game, very well optimised and despite being a Quest port it looked nice enough and the visuals were quite convincing despite not reaching the level of quality of other games made for PC first then ported to inferior platforms. The important thing here is that the game is a great game, very well done, with a decent story that keeps you engaged throughout the ~10 hours it takes to complete (I got lost not knowing where to go next a couple of times so for some people it could be a little shorter). The setting reminded me a bit of The Thing, the game. I missed a bit more variety when it comes to the places you visit, they're al quite similar, though very well designed. You can do most quests in the order you prefer, it's kind of open in how you can play it which was very good and as I said it was overall a great experience which I highly recommend if you're into sci-fi shooters in lost bases in the Antarctica. Totally worth the price IMO.
This game is great if you like exploring abandoned bases in first person metroidvania style. Don't expect a shooter with a lot of action, it is more akin to Metroid Prime for example. The game has a cool way of using/introducing weapons. The combat is okay but sometimes a little bit static.
This is a great metroidvania and, because this is a VR game, the ambience sets the mood perfectly, since the game happens in an abandoned scientific base, most places feels like liminal spaces and I often get chills when I explore them. The story is very intriguing so far and the weapons are very creative and distinctive. The only complaint I have is that they don't have an option for enabling vignettes when you move, so I get motion sickness if I don't take medicine for motion sickness before I play the game.
Hoping the Dev sees this and fixes the game. Saving takes a couple minutes at the check-in screens: you can't do anything until that process completes. Needs a fix. Index controller setting was never properly implemented: need to use SteamVR shared binding to fix. Otherwise if's a very solid adventure game and would be an easy thumbs up if only the Devs cared to fix the above.
Solid recommend. May the algorithm favor it. It's roughly similar to playing a simpler version of Half-Life or Dead Space in VR. You explore around this abandoned underground arctic base where a grand scientific experiment has gone horribly wrong, unlocking more of the base and killing alien monsters along the way. I enjoyed the exploration. The combat was good enough, but it's pretty simple. There's some amount of resource management (health, ammo, consumables), but scarcity isn't really an issue on the default difficulty. There's some player-progression in finding new weapons, unlocking weapon modifications, and upgrading your suit with a few new abilities. The graphics, voice-acting, and general level of polish are all unexpectedly good, given that its an inexpensive VR game. The story is adequate, and isn't really the focus. The only caveats I have are that 1) it's a little short (~10 hours for me, but it was about the right length for this game), and 2) saving is done at specific locations, of which there are plenty, but you have to remember to use them or else you'll lose a moderate chunk of your time when you die (there's autosave too, but it doesn't save very often).
