About
"Genesis of a Small God is a god simulation !
Feel the power of being an all mighty god. Play on a generated island where you can do whatever you want. Learn how to be a god. Unlock mighty miracles and care for your faithfuls.
You are free to proceed however you want.
Will you grow food to feed them ?
Will you help them gather resources and build their village ?
Will you protect them from dangers ?
Will you use their remains to feed the remaining villagers ?
Discover a wide variety of miracles. From the fireball that can burn an entire forest to summoning the rain that will grow the flora around, this game offers many different miracles. As you keep playing, you can unlock even more impressive miracles like throwing meteors or resurrecting the dead. You can even share them by ordaining priests.
You play on a procedurally generated voxel island you can modify it to your liking. The island is composed of a wide flora and fauna. The game offers simulated seasons where the plants bloom appropriately. Everything on the island is trying to survive and will react to your actions. Using the physics engine you can throw anything around. You can help, hinder or simply watch the creatures on the island.
Your power comes from the faith of your people. Their belief will vary based on their living conditions. Are they fed ? Do they have shelter ? Are they being mangled by a hungry wolf ? The happier they are the more they will believe in you. Take care of them even when they die, you must reap their soul to prevent them from becoming angry ghosts.
Meanwhile the villagers will try to build and improve their village. You can influence their actions by terraforming the ground. And help them gather the necessary resources and even help them build their little economy. You can’t directly choose the building. But you can destroy any building you don’t agree with.
Protect your people from many dangers, from the horde of undead to abductions by an alien spaceship. There is never a dull moment. The game regularly triggers random events. You must react to those events or suffer the consequences. From invasive plants to strange astrological occurrences, you never know what’s going to happen.
The game is meant as a relaxing experience. You can always restart on a new island. You keep every unlocked power. You control the difficulty of the game to fit your play style. You can choose to play a stress free experience without any random event. Or you can choose a nightmarish experience where you are expected to solve multiple problems happening at once.

The closest thing to Black and White 1. Every single self-proclaimed god game that has released in the last two decades is essentially a city builder with gimmicky powers. This one avoids that pitfall and nails the essence of the genre. It's good.
Not too bad. Spent twice as long trying to gather the souls i needed than i did playing the game. I'm interested to see how the game looks in a year.
Not perfect but deserves more spotlight than it seen. I wish I found it sooner. Onboarding could use some work but you figure things out eventually. If you liked the first Black and White game you'll like this. It has its qurks that make it unique. Some are easy to love and hate at the same time. Here's a couple qurks of the game. Spoiler alert!
You start with no UI. You unlock it by putting souls into omniscient powers. I like it. I also thought the game had no background music but it turns out once you make a believer into a bard he plays the music. This is one I love and hate. Sometimes it is deafeningly quite. That's usually when I remember to check and yup my bard had died.
Sorry for ruining it on ya. It's just something you have to experience yourself. I can see myself coming back to this frequently to scratch that God game itch.
An awesome game with great potential, deserves way more visibility. I would like to see it go further scope-wise, but it's been very enjoyable as is.
Not VR compatible, this game constantly crashes my computer. As interesting as the premise of this game seems, my experience has been awful, I can't even play the game. I wouldn't recommend it for VR users as there are many other titles that work seamlessly and at this point I think I'm doing more damage to my hardware than the potential fun is worth
Abandoned and a buggy mess. No story. Just a little buggy island. Don't waste your time.
pre-review: so far I love it! It reminds me a lot of black and white. I hope this game gets expanded even further. Try the demo if you're hesitant. It's what made me buy the game. Also your demo progress carries over when you buy and launch the full version. Thank you for doing that ♥
Genesis of a Small God is an enjoyable, underappreciated addition to the god game genre. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it delivers a satisfying mix of light strategy and divine meddling that makes for an engaging experience. The graphics are charming—nothing groundbreaking, but they fit the tone of the game well. Gameplay-wise, it scratches the itch left by Black & White aging out of relevance and Fata Deum still being in development. While it doesn’t reach the depth of either, it offers enough mechanics to keep you entertained. The balance between influence and indirect control feels intuitive, and watching your tiny civilization respond to your whims is consistently rewarding. One notable downside is the lack of community support. There are no wikis, guides, or a significant player base to share strategies with, which can make learning the deeper mechanics a bit of a solo endeavor. It’s a shame because this game deserves more attention—it’s fun, well-priced, and delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re a fan of the genre, Genesis of a Small God is absolutely worth your time. Just don’t expect a bustling player community or endless depth—this is a niche title that knows what it is and executes it well.
I have had quite some fun with this game, and I am not done with it yet, even if I am not spending a lot of time playing in general. There is enough content to discover new things as the game goes on. The graphics may not look their best because my hardware is a bit dated (it looks like some tweaks have improved the situation though ; Unreal 5 seems to be slightly demanding) ; at least the design is coherent. The good point is that there is a demo for those unsure they want to try. The gameplay mostly consists in helping the village survive and grow with a few powers to cast (it starts with a few but you get more) and more hands on interactions. There are usually different ways to handle a given problem. Experimenting is encouraged. AFAICT, it is possible to interact in some way with every element of the island.
The controls are a little wonky as the game was clearly intended for VR stuff and the tutorial doesn't do much to explain the world mechanics, but it's otherwise a fun little game once you get the hang of it. It reminds me of the old Black and White game from way back but with updated game play and graphics.
