Genesis of a Small God

Black&White fans! This one is a BIG WIN for the community that has craved another game where you play GOD.

This is an extremely competent successor to the Black & White formula of God games. It plays a lot more like Black & White 1 than 2, while excluding the creature. While the creature was a lot of the appeal for me in Black & White this is an objective improvement over the God mechanics of that game and it's sequel. There are a lot of fun additions to play with and mechanics to compliment to main gameplay loop. Some kind of compendium that covers what kind of scenarios are active that can be seen after initially encountering it would be a nice addition as the only frustration I've had is deciding whether to prevent a scenario at the start of a day that I assume I've never seen.

It is clearly unfinished. It has potential to be a good game, but it is very user unfriendly right now. I bought it because of a review comparing it to Black and White 1. (My favorite game) I love that you can aid in building, resource collection, and cast spells. The more upgrade you unlock the more similar the game becomes. However after 4 hours I still can't figure out how to tell what building is being placed. Which is really really annoying. I can see that I don't have enough houses, I hope this placement ends up being a house. Ahhhhhhh another freaking field! I've unlocked the barracks and never been able to place it, because it never actually pops up. Sometimes your flattening thing doesn't actually result in a building being placed. I really don't understand. The game also places pretty much everything as a left click. Cast a spell, pick something up, "flick" something, ect. Which is annoying because if you are "flicking" an enemy and it goes in a field of crops, the flick command automatically becomes pick up and instead of continuing the fight against whatever enemy, suddenly you have to toss a ton of wheat out of the way. There's no way to specify what you want to pick up with a multi pick. So if you are collecting wood, you could accidentally pick up stone with the wood. Of gathering from the blacksmith is a pain because it produces a variety of stuff but it's all in a pile. I can't recommend it to others in it's current state. 4 out of 10

Not quite Populous, not quite Black and White, but something different and fun and replayable in the same manner. Fun so far.

As someone who grew up playing "Black & White", this is the closest I've seen a game come to scratching that itch. I like the bones of the game, the souls system for unlocking is a bit tedious, The engine itself is pretty crap, lots of graphical issues. I only played mouse and keyboard but it entertained me for a few hours, would be fascinated to see this expanded on.

If you liked black and white, this game is for you. It's got many of the elements I loved about black and white 1, and Pierre has actually come up with gameplay where it's fun to be a god. There are actual things to do instead of the meandering, confusing experience that was Black and White 1. It's an actual game with solid objectives that's fun to play. In my opinion it's the best modern god game offering right now.

It has the framework to be a good successor to B & W. But just like Molyneux the dev here decides barely good enough to not be a fraud is the goal. It is a cool idea, buy it and set a 1:55 timer. It is likely that you've experienced almost everything the game has to offer by that point so it is time to refund it
