Genesis Noir

The gameplay is not fun at all but it has so much sauce that I cannot in good conscience give a negative review. It's kino.

Genesis Noir stands out with its incredible art direction and creative visual storytelling. The point-and-click puzzles are fairly simple, but they serve as a vehicle for an imaginative journey through space, time, and creation. It's a unique experience that leaves a lasting impression even after its brief runtime.

Went in expecting a celestial noir thriller, wound up with Isaac Asimov’s the Last Question if it was a psychedelic love story with a dash of Sister Alice added in for good measure. You’ll understand when you play it. Or not; I’m not entirely certain I did. 10/10, would fall in love with eternity again.

If I told you that Genesis Noire is both a cosmology exhibition and an interactive experience that tells a story, and that sounds appealing to you, then go for it you'll love it. The animations are stunning; the game narrates the history of the universe from the Big Bang to its end, covering the formation of stars and the solar system along the way. It’s not just scientific, it’s a true work of art to explain cosmology through simple images and symbols. The game also explores how we find meaning in the universe and what is our place within it. There’s something about the combination of text and imagery that really struck a chord with me toward the end. If you’re looking for a game with real gameplay or aren’t interested in the universe, then this might not be for you. The gameplay clearly lacks depth. [h2]A lovely psychedelic adventure that needs a bigger flash bang warning[/h2] It was a surreal game with fantastic music. The simplistic art wasn't as simple as it seemed. The story was more profound that I was expecting, after reading what the game was about. That was a pleasant surprise. Some of the puzzles were a bit complex and frustrating, but satisfying to solve. The controls were rather simple but not that smooth if you had to perform complex actions. The flashing lights were a bit much, I found myself looking to the side far too many times. I would advise caution with that aspect.

Visually mesmerising. Don't expect mechanical complexity. The game can be entirely played one handed and the puzzles are just there to be visually interesting and move the plot along. But man...what a ride. So beautifully made. Brilliant soundtrack. Wonderfully existential story. I was not expecting to nearly cry at the end, but I almost did. And it's all JAZZ BABY. Not in terms of just the music. The whole VIBE of the game is JAZZ. This game FEELS like Charles Mingus. It's not a long game, sit down on a weekend and play the whole thing in one sitting if you can. But you'll come away with something to think about and an experience to talk about. There is also a TON of optional stuff to read if you can find it. It does not affect the game, it's just there. And I love that. Three criticisms. Firstly, the game will not allow you to select resolutions higher then 1080p if you are in full screen mode. Only windowed. You can also just edit the game's config file for this. Secondly, if you click on the item that advances the story you cannot go back and click on other items. So leave whatever is big and yellow until very last as you won't be able to go back and click on anything else. Finally, the price is a little high for how short it is. And it's something you're only playing once. So wait for it on sale.

Genesis Noir has to be one of the most unique video games that I have ever played! This game has a distinctive (mostly) black-and-white art style that complements it perfectly! It tells an interesting story that's centered around themes of love and the universe; despite not having much dialog, but the narrative in game is conveyed so well it won't have you lost. Additionally the jazzy soundtrack in the game is enjoyable and it ties the themes and story beautifully. It's an intriguing game to piece together! I would recommend this game if you enjoy philosophy, or if you love games that have a unique approach to gameplay and storytelling.
