Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.

Warning: Asset Flip!
GAYA - The Mystery is an asset flip, what Valve calls a "fake game". The "developer", Dunamis, took the Medieval Village Megascans Sample game assets from the real developers, Quixel Megascans, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They're attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else's work. There's a couple of other plagiarised assets, the characters are all asset flips, the asian village asset is flipped... in fact, nothing in this game is actually the creation of the developer. It's somewhat academic whether the developer genuinely thought it was okay to do what they're doing, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter... this is at best low quality shovelware, but we can't ignore the utterly unethical acts of plagiarising the work of others, and worse, shoving disgusting AI slop and vibe coding onto Steam. And, the developer is consciously trying to get YOUR money for other people's Unreal assets. Totally unacceptable. The products that result from asset flips aren't "real" games. They lack depth and content, because they're just simplistic copies of demos or tutorials. In this case, "Medieval Village Megascans Sample" is just a medieval village environment asset pack copy + pasted directly by the developer with no changes, and doesn't have any merit as a proper, fully fledged PC game. It's just a minimum viable product, just enough to get through the non-existent quality control on Steam Direct. Not a real game. Asset flips don't involve any professional game development. Sure, sometimes they may change a few cosmetic things, swap out different assets etc, but at heart it's functionally identical to the asset they're ripping off. Asset flips like this are harmful to the gaming industry and to Steam because they reduce the visibility that sincerely made indie games should have, and make it harder for gamers to find real games from genuine developers. Let's talk about pricing and the actual value this has for gamers. Is this game one of the best of the 140,000+ games on Steam? GAYA - The Mystery has the comically over-optimistic price of $15 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. For comparison, the $15 asking price for this game could get you games like "Resident Evil Village", "Valheim" or "SCUM". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 140,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. There's enough defects and quality problems with this game that it's not worth recommending to gamers, but the unethical nature of the developer/their associates makes it completely impossible. Because this is just a fake game/cash grab scam, and due to the sheer unethical nature of the developer, you should avoid this completely. Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from Dunamis. Finally, I'm here to try help save gamers time and money by filtering out the noise and substandard games... there's up to 50 games launched on Steam Direct every day! They aren't all great... most of them suck. If you don't agree with my assessment of the defects in this game, go ahead and buy it... maybe you'll find the same defects I did, maybe not. Even write your own review. Positive or negative, game reviews are here to help other gamers by informing their decisions on what to buy and play. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere. AI models are trained on copyrighted intellectual property without permission from the owners.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.

Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The first thing the developer wants everyone to know is that they are "The Main Character". You, as a gamer, don't matter. They breach Valve guidelines for developers just to complain about a fully accurate and informative review (with facts their ego doesn't like). It's evident from their attitude that they never created this product with gamers in mind. They did so to stroke their own ego. When developers, especially failed ones who would never be able to get a professional job in the industry, put themselves before gamers, we end up with garbage products like this. That explains how this trash ended up on Steam, but it doesn't excuse it. At least we finally got to meet The Main Character, and nobody else matters. The developer ADMITs they stole assets from other people... I already pointed that out. But the developer also lies; the vast entirety of this game is plagiarised assets. The developer claiming that other people's assets don't make up the bulk of the game is simply untrue... but why should we be surprised? We already caught this guy trying to pass off other people's game assets as if he was the creator. Dishonesty is a well established trait from this asset flipper. And remember... this guy wants YOUR money for the assets he plagiarised. Not okay! Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this asset flip to anyone.
