Ok so when I first started the game I figured I would go in blind without watching any videos that indicated how to play. That way I would play from the perspective of most players. It took moments for me to figure out how to accelerate, maybe 5 min to figure out how to go into systems. The problem occurred when I learned how to orbit planets, I was stuck on how to leave the system. It may have taken me 10 minutes to figure this out. The most difficult aspect to pick up was warping long distance. I kept finding the guardian planets and I would try to use the jump gate and would see the message only works in regular space. This was frustrating because I went in hyperspace, orbit, and just free roaming system and nothing changed. Finally I watched the video for navigation, and it showed me that I wasn’t typing in the system I needed to jump to, I was only clicking on the box (T06). I’m sure this probably wasn’t a problem for anyone else but for me it was mind numbing. I’m now learning about combat so I’ll refrain from commenting until my feet get wet. All in all lots of potential in this game from exploration, ship handles well, graphics are decent especially planets. If the devs can add more content (indigenous life) not just sentient but non sentient. Allow for away missions, even if it’s just text, with maybe a picture this would really add depth to exploration. There also need to be spacial anomalies. Wormholes, black holes, nebula (that effects ship), and rogue space stations. Clans should have the options to put money together to build clan/guild space stations (maybe larger or not bound to planets to differentiate). There should be some skills that players need to develop nothing on the ridiculous level of Eve but something would be good. Lastly players should have visible avatars, with pictures for race/species. Even if we just could name our ships that’s good too if the names can be seen during flight. Great game loads of potential, with a bit more polish it can be awesome. 7 out of 10
GALAXICUS is a space conquest game involving strategy, tactics and teamwork. It is still being developed but is already very playable. Has a bit of a learning curve but players and developer are helpful on discord channel and also in the game. I enjoy the Planet Economics (Prime Ministering or PM). There is a safe area for those who want to learn PM'ing, which is called Core. Your planets cannot be taken in Core. Then there is the "Rim" area where Ship combat can happen, but planets are not conquerable. The best scores however come from the Frontier section where there is both ship combat and planets can be taken. Even the imperial bases themselves can be taken! But this requires a team effort. You will definitely want to make or join an active team in the Frontier. GALAXICUS is years in the making and the game shows that. I like the ability to choose how intense I want to play and that I can change that by moving around the seriously enormous galaxy into either safer or more hazardous areas. Scouting is a breeze with "Probe Mode" with 10 probes out at once and point and click. The Guardian Trading Posts are a real game changer. Need extra $$ to buy fighters for your Planet? You can sell some of your extra Food or Ores and buy Fighters at the Trading Post. The Guardian Trading Posts are also Stargates to other regions of the Galaxy. The galaxy is so huge that they come in very handy for raids, or scouting around for a new hunting ground. Come on in and check it out.
Great strategy game with something for everyone
Played this in the mid 80s when it was text based on Compuserve and remember those huge telephone bills because Compuserve was a dial in service. With a graphics interface, this game has the same mechanics as the old game. I find it enjoyable. Each game last 4 weeks. At the beginning of a war, players find planets to colonize and use their planetary management skills to gain points for planetary growth over the 4 weeks. Players can attack other ships, destroy and loot colonies, and build and defend their own colonies. For players that like casual colony builder games this is it. It would be much more interesting if there were hundreds of players participating like in the older game.
This game has many aspects that you cant find in modern day games. There is no rush like logging on on reset night to grab your planets and get set up for the game ahead. Waking up each morning to see if someone has attacked your base is a feeling like no other. Picking up this game takes a bit of time and trial and error; however other players are very welcoming and helpful to new faces. Join the Discord and the creator along with other players will answer any questions you have. 10/10 would recommend checking it out, you will not be disappointed!
It's a buggy, clumsy, unplayable copy of a mediocre strategy game from the 1980's. Since it is PvP only, and nobody plays (it's literally like 8 guys, 7 now), it is also totally pointless. Hard Pass.
a game for life
This is a recreation of Megawars 3 for modern computers. Back in the day, games like this were some of the first real time on-line multiplayer games ever, They pre-date the World Wide Web. Compuserve, GEnie, and probably AOL all had versions of games like this. Back then, it was text based and you had to imagine what was going on and respond appropriately. For example, you might get a message "100 Points Damage on forward shields from ship at 320 degrees". You'd have to respond with something like: "Fire Torpedo 1 320 Degrees". It's was real time and tense. Today we have a display and a mouse to see and respond with. But the underlying game mechanics are true to it's origins, Today, it's much nicer to click your mouse rather than typing commands. Galaxicus is somewhat like a computer version of the "Star Fleet Battles" board game, but in real time. It's also a bit like "Master of Orion", "Tradewars 2000" and Reach For The Stars". It borrows elements of all of them but is a unique experience of it's own. It will take time to read instructions and watch tutorials. People just don't make games like this anymore and to me, they've lost something. If you know what SSI, Avalon Hill, SSG and others were about, then this game is for you. If you just want COD in space, you're not going to find that here. The Universe is vast, and there's lots to explore and figure out. Your planets grow while you sleep, and it's fun to log in and see how they are doing. I think there's a lot to enjoy if you are the type of gamer who isn't afraid to dig into a game. Playing this with a friend is probably the best way to play. You can form a team and share resources. Plus you can attack enemies together. So far I play solo because I'm still learning. Looking forward to team play.
