Its a dam good game i would recommend this game for anyone who likes retro games.

If you like retro Shoot 'em up you definitely need to give it a go to Galactic Wars EX. Pros: - Great retro visuals - Old school Shoot 'em up - Good OST - Lots of fun :) Cons: - Keyboard bindings could be improved
Galactic Wars EX is a game that has solid foundations, yet fails to realize its potential due to some of its design decisions. Therefore it ultimately ends up being frustrating. As I have not played this game enough to warrant a full fledged review, I will not go into details. I simply did not enjoy my brief time the game and therefore see no reason to continue playing. If you want detailed explanation of the game's features, I recommend looking at the other, well-written negative review on the store page. With that said, what you read below are my impressions of the time I spent with the game and stuff that I do believe are flaws that drag the experience down. - There is no options screen in the game. You cannot change the controls, change display settings or tweak the audio levels. - The keyboard layout is... very unintuitive if I may say. Player 1 needs to use WASD to move and G to shoot, while player 2 uses the directional keys to move and numpad 0 to shoot. While these bindings do separate each control scheme to a side of the keyboard, they are very uncomfortable to play with. With the lack of rebindable controls, this becomes a big issue. - The missile powerup is a massive let down. It's very much useless. Not only the missiles you shoot are very slow, but they can be destroyed by enemy projectiles. Basically you need to be incredibly close to bosses or enemies to make sure the missiles hit the target. - There is no autofire button. You have to constantly press the fire button in order to shoot. I understand this has been done to fit the weapon energy feature, but it doesn't allow the game to be played for long periods as it will cause needless fatigue on your finger. Especially when you have to hammer the shot button after getting the unlimited energy powerup. - While the weapon energy system is interesting and tries to add depth to the game, I can't help but feel the game suffers a bit because of it. Whenever you run out of energy, your fire rate will drastically decrease, forcing you to stop shooting in a shoot'em up game and wait for it to get filled. All while the enemy is sending barrages of projectiles at you. - The shield powerup does not provide efficient protection. While it gives you an extra hit point, it does not prevent powerup downgrade after getting hit by a projectile. You will still lose a random powerup upon taking a hit. - Continues are more like a punishment than a second try, as your ship starts with no upgrades after respawning. This can become incredibly frustrating on boss fights.
I played Galactic Wars EX co-op with my partner thanks to The Indie Game Collective. I think I've found a new addiction! This retro arcade shmup is a lot of fun and chaos. I really appreciate the challenge it offers. This isn't a game where you can just hold down a button for some spray and pray. Accuracy here really counts, otherwise the player just wastes their energy. There are different ships to choose from depending on your play style and you can pick up different power ups like speed, shields, missles, power, etc. The player only gets so many lives and can hit continue as if it were in an arcade but when it's over, it's over. Then you start again and retry. So far we've made it into the second level but I'm going to need some more play time to get further. lol It's going to be a long time before I come close to getting on the leaderboard.
RECOMENDADO 100%!
My first impressions video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEicL3m9jUc Galactic Wars EX might look like another 16-bit inspired shmup, perhaps something in the vein of the Gradius series. However it's anything but. This game takes the most common--near universal--mechanical trops of the genre and turns them on their ear. People who have these traditions burned into them might find these differences off-putting, but I really enjoy the uniqueness of this game. Traditional shmups either encourage button mashing or have an auto-fire system. This game's shooting is handled the opposite way. Your gun has an energy meter that does recharge automatically, but which you will drain quickly by button mashing. If you try to play that way, you'll find yourself not able to fire quickly enough to handle the enemies coming at you. This mechanic requires you to manage your shots, learn the levels and the enemy waves. There are powerups for your shot power (which can also spawn options), speed, shield and missiles and when you max any of them out, picking up the same powerup will give you temporary unlimited energy. Your missiles are not unlimited and can be disrupted by certain enemy shots so you also have to use them wisely, but they have a large area of effect and especially against bosses, can be very powerful. The game's scoring system is also non-traditional. By clearing out entire waves of enemies, you'll increase your score multiplier by one. However, if you miss a single enemy in a wave, your multiplier resets. The default high scores are very high (frankly, too high I think) and learning the levels to max out your multiplier potential is key for high scoring. There aren't that many levels, but they are surprisingly long, with a lot of different enemies and bosses. One downside is that I really wish the online leaderboards were better implemented. There's no replay function, which is a nice to have, but a great learning tool. Worse though is that all they show you in the top 10 scores in the world, which are already absurdly high. You can't look beyond the top 10, you can't see your own position on the leaderboard, nor can you compare against your friends. This bare bones function is a real let-down in a score focused title like this and I hope it can be improved with updates. Overall, this is a fantastic shmup that aims to do things different and succeeds brilliantly. It will require fighting a lot of muscle memory if you're used to traditional shmups, but as a big fan of this genre, I think that's one of its greatest virtues. It's a great deal for the price and I highly recommend it.
